The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences at SGT University hosted an event, "From Synapses to System: Unraveling the Convergence of Human Cognition and Machine Learning," on March 28, 2024. This event was all about exploring how human thinking and machine learning come together.
Dr. Maharaj Singh, Professor, Marquette University, USA, led the discussion. He explained how machines learn from the human brain's structure and functions to make predictions based on data.
After Dr. Singh's talk, students asked him questions about the future of artificial intelligence and the ethics of teaching machines morals.
The faculty is excited to organize more events like this to help students understand human behavior and thinking better, especially in relation to technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The Intra-Faculty Fest, Psychfit Fiesta 2024, organized by the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences on March 22, 2024, was an exciting showcase of sportsmanship, talent, and friendship among students. The event aimed to bring students together and promote healthy competition among them. The day began with a lively opening ceremony that set the tone for the competitions ahead. Students participated in various sports and games, including football, basketball, volleyball, Kho-Kho, dodgeball, relay races, Throw ball, Tug of war, and fun activities like Spoon and lemon race, Teflon band race, and sponge game. The Intra-Faculty Fest - Psychfit Fiesta 2024 was a resounding success, positively impacting all attendees. It celebrated teamwork, unity, and healthy competition while also providing an opportunity for students to have fun and stay active. As the event concluded, participants left with cherished memories and a strengthened sense of community, eagerly anticipating future editions of this thrilling event.

The eminent Prof. (Dr.) Sonia Malik came over to share a few trickles of her ocean's worth of knowledge. Dr. Malik discussed case studies and crucial professional skills in psychology. What a teacher to have!

In the second portion of the event, students asked questions related to the practical implications of positivity and some burning issues in their lives.

The "𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚" 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲, themed "Fresh Flowers," was an unforgettable event brimming with vibrant colors, infectious music, and an atmosphere of jubilation. Organized on the 27th of September 2023, the event marked the grand welcome of our new batch of students and was hosted by the Department of Clinical Psychology, Faculty of Behavioral Sciences (FBSC), SGTU.

The event commenced with an invocation to Goddess Sarasvati and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Prof. Amra Ahsan (Dean, FBSC) and Dr. Vikas Sharma (HoD, FBSC) extended a warm welcome to the students, motivating them to pursue their dreams. Dr. Waheeda Khan (Advisor, SGTU) graced the podium and shared her best wishes for the students' future endeavors. Dr. Farhat Jahan, along with Dr. Bhanupriya Rathore, coordinated the event successfully.

The Freshers' ceremony culminated with heartwarming group photographs capturing cherished memories shared by faculty members and students. Following the formal proceedings, a delightful lunch was arranged for students and faculty members to bond and share in the joy.

Faculty of Behavioural Sciences hosted a Special lecture series from 30th October to 1st November, 2023. The objective of the 30th and 31st event was to equip students with knowledge related to other aspects of Psychology.

Further, the Special Session “𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡” was specially organized for faculty members at SGT university under the the aegis of R&D Department on 1st November, 2023. The speakers for the sessions were Prof. Mewa Singh, a Distinguished Professor (for life), SERB Distinguished Fellow; University of Mysore, and Distinguished visiting Professor Faculty of behavioural sciences, SGT University, and Prof. Vinod Kumar, UGC-BSR Faculty Fellow, and Ex-Senior Professor Department of Zoology University of Delhi.

The Vice Chancellor, SGT University Prof. O.P. Kalra, Prof. Waheeda Khan, Advisor of FBSC, and Prof. Jaswinder Singh, Executive Dean, FBSC extended a warm welcome. The event was coordinated by Dr. Farhat Jahan, Dr. Navkiran Kalsi, Dr. Vikas Sharma and Dr. Sihabuddin. Session was concluded by Dr. Atul Babbar and the formal vote of thanks was given by Associate Dean, FBS Prof. Amra Ahsan.

The bootcamp of two dyays was organized at Om Shanti Retreat Centre in Manesar, Gurgaon, Haryana on 14 & 21st September 2023. The coordinator of this boot camp Dr. Shubhangi Gupta, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Behavioural Sciences visited with 68 students. This was a transformative experience aimed at guiding participants towards inner peace, mindfulness, and self-discovery. The center, nestled amidst serene surroundings, provided valuable insights into managing stress, controlling aggressive behavior, and identifying one's life purpose.

The retreat commenced with enlightening sessions on the significance of inner peace in our fast-paced lives. The guides emphasized the importance of mindfulness and being present in the moment as essential tools for achieving a sense of tranquility.

The Participants received practical guidance on stress management techniques. They were provided with strategies to deal with the daily pressures of life, allowing for a more balanced and harmonious existence.

The retreat encouraged participants to delve into the profound question of life's purpose. Through interactive sessions and self-reflection, attendees were guided towards a better understanding of their individual life paths.

The visit to Om Shanti Retreat Centre in Manesar, Gurgaon, provided a holistic and enriching experience. Participants left with newfound knowledge about inner peace, stress management, and self-awareness. The Faculty of Behavioural Sciences conducted a series of workshops with Dr. Huseyin Cakal, Senior Lecturer at Keele University, UK, to enhance students' academic and research capabilities.

Over the course of three days, Dr. Cakal concentrated on the practical application of multiple regression analyses, the method of conducting research projects, and the writing of academic papers, placing special emphasis on the process from idea generation to influential publication. Even more, he covered postgraduate study options in the UK and the advantages of global academic exchange, giving students a more comprehensive view of international academic opportunities.

Participants learned in-depth details about the application procedure, potential funding options, and the vibrant UK academic environment. Their enthusiastic engagement and active participation were instrumental in making this series of workshops a huge success.

From April 4 th to 8 th , 2023, under the direction of Ms. Aastha Dhingra (Advisor), Dr. Nitesh Kumar Jha (Co – Advisor) and Ms. Anantika Tehlani (Coordinator), PSYCA: the Academic Association of the 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 organized an event titled – ‘𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤’ to mark 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲. The primary goals of the event were to make the students aware about health issues, and the possible ways to manage those issues effectively. Also, they spread the message through the event that in need the students of the campus can avail the counselling services from the Counselling Center established in the university campus which is housed in room 003 of the C-block. The event included the motto – ‘Aapko suna jaega, aapko samjha jaaega aur aapki sahaayata ki jaegi’ (You will be heard, understood and helped).

In order to help students become more aware of their condition or the situation of their social circle, the presenters addressed a number of medical and psychological issues throughout the programme, including Polycystic ovarian syndrome, Asthma, Hypertension, etc. Also, brochures were utilised that briefly explained a number of psychological symptoms, such as irritation, depression, mood swings, insomnia, respiratory problems, anxiety, etc. The students’ doubts about the underlying philosophies of their issues and where they might receive guidance were allayed by their persistent inquiries. This students’ destigmatization process shone a bright light on the idea of wellbeing. The discussion was actively engaged by the students, who clarified their queries.

With participation from other faculties, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 held an event on the topic of "𝐒𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 & 𝐈𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭." The workshop was coordinated by Dr Bhanupriya Rathore.

The primary objective of the workshop was to raise awareness of sleep as a phenomenon and the important role it plays in ones life. The speaker, starting with Prof. (Dr) M. Ejaz Hussain, concentrated on intriguing topics throughout the entire session, including the neurophysiology of sleep and sleep disturbance in students. "Sleep is the golden thread that connects our bodies and our health" is what the professor cited and further discussed techniques for regulating and improving sleep.

Dr Vikas Sharma, HOD, FBSC spoke next, as he discussed “Sleep: Public Health Concern & Its Psychological Intervention Psychological and Behavioural factors related to sleep difficulties.” Dr primarily discussed insomnia, insomnia syndrome, the onset of chronic insomnia, and various treatments for sleep disorders such as stimulus-control therapy, cognitive therapy, and relaxation- based interventions.

Last but not least, Dr Drishti, Resident Medical Officer, Faculty of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences led us to a very informative and relaxing session. She guided the participants in some relaxation techniques (Yog Nidra), which turned out to be quite helpful for the majority of the participants. She went on to discuss its significance and how people might use it in their everyday lives.

The knowledge piqued the interest of the attendees and proved to be incredibly insightful and beneficial for everyone. The Faculty Of Behavioural Sciences is enthusiastic to host more stimulating events in the future.

50+ participants from various schools of the SGT have participated.

The talk was conducted as a part of the promotion and outreach activities of Digital & Online Learning at SGT University and was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Suresh C. Joshi.
The highlights of the session were as follows:

On 27th April 2023, 13 trainees clinical psychologists from the Department of Clinical Psychology, Faculty of Behavioural Sciences went to Farrukhnagar and visited a Community Center and a Govt School. The team interacted with local population at Saini Dharmshala and spread the general awareness about importance of mental health and prevailing trends on the subject. Pamphlets highlighting various facets of mental health were distributed. Clarification on various queries by audience were given by the team members.

The major psychological issues in the population were found to be psychosomatic diseases, depression and anxiety. The participants were encouraged to seek the treatment during follow up visits.
Later the team moved to Govt Model Sanskriti Sr Sec School.

There the team interacted with school Principal, teachers and students. The major problems faced by the students are academic difficulties, anxiety and emotional and behavioural issues. The individual cases will be seen in follow up visits. The response from the students in the school was very encouraging.

They showed lot of inquisitiveness and wanted to have such interactions regularly. The principal also suggested to prepare mental health profile of students for which he would draw out a comprehensive plan.

SGT University, faculty of behavioural Sciences (FBSC) in association with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) organised a one-day workshop event to commemorate World Autism Day on the theme " Autism Diagnosis & treatment Approaches " in the Department of Clinical Psychology at E block, 11.30 am onwards.

This event comprised two separate sessions addressing early intervention approaches on the topic of- “Applied Behaviour Analysis” (ABA) AND “Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention” (EIBI). The Expert speakers of the session were Ms. Shadma Jahan, RCI Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Dr. Gurbani Kohli, Child and Adolescent Psychologist. Both the speakers discussed about practical early intervention approaches using case vignettes and treatment techniques in the management of behavioural, sensory, social, and other educational related issues of ASD.

There was a plethora of information shared and discussed by expert speakers. All students actively participated in the workshop and found it very effective and informative.

𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 did a field visit at 𝐍𝐂𝐈-𝐀𝐈𝐈𝐌𝐒, Jhajjar, Haryana. The visit was done on 19th April 2023 along with 12 students from Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PDCP) program and B.A. (Hons) psychology final year batch and two faculty coordinators- Ms. Megha Sharma, Assistant Professor and Dr.Shallu Joon, Assistant professor. Here trainees were exposed to PCM Unit (Palliative care medicine) of the hospital.

There were cases related to adenocarcinoma, oesophagus cancer, oral cancer, liver SOL, cervical cancer and many more. Most of them were either in their stage 4 or at terminal stages where it cannot be cured. Trainees were asked to interact with them and their caregivers and take brief history or any psychological issues they were facing currently. Most of the patients were open to share and express themselves.

Overall, it was extremely learning experience and exposure for the trainees which was successfully executed.

The motive behind the event was also to give students a day to bond, interact and enjoy with each other through physical and recreational activities by taking a break from routine academic activities. Kho-kho, Dodge ball, Volleyball, Basket Ball, Chain-Chain, Pitthu and Tug of war were among the most exciting games of the day.

All the activities and games were coordinated by the student coordinators of faculty of behavioural sciences under the guidance of sports instructors Mr. Jagdish and Mr. Kuldeep. The event was started with the encouraging words by the Dean faculty of Behavioural Sciences, Prof. Rajbir Singh and the Additional Dean of the faculty Prof. N. K. Chandel. Both of them encouraged the students to include sports and physical activities in life style to stay fit physically as well as mentally.

It was also included in their address that the sports have the capacity to develop and strengthen the bound of brotherhood among each other. Dr. Nitesh Kumar Jha, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Behavioural Sciences planned this event with the support of student coordinators of the event Jahanvi, Gurbani, Sakshi, Harsh, Mayank, Ruchit, Pragya and Girishma under the guidance of Mr. Uma Datta, Director Sports, SGT University, Gurugram. Dr. Satvir Singh, Dr. Shubhangi Gupta, Dr. Bhanupriya, Dr. K. C. Barmola, Dr. Amra Ahsan, Ms. Aastha Dhingra all of them were participated actively with the students, and coordinated well in organizing the event.

All the students were participated actively and enjoyed the event with full of energy and enthusiasm.

Autism spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neuro developmental disorder in children and adolescents. Children with ASD often have problems with social communication and interaction and restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests.

This event will touch upon understanding Autism spectrum disorders with a specific focus on assessment and diagnosis of Autism.

The workshop will help students become aware of Practical early intervention such as Applied behavior analysis (ABA) in the management of Behavioral, sensory, social and other educational related issues of ASD.

The workshop will comprise hands on training experience as well as discussion of case studies and treatment techniques to gain a better understanding of Autism spectrum disorders. SGT University cordially invites you all to attend this event.

Department of Clinical Psychology, SGT University, Gurgaon organized an awareness camp that approached people in the community to educate them about the importance of mental health and to spread awareness among them about the warning signs and symptoms of various mental illnesses.

To promote this on a wider platform, a Mental Health First Aid program has been inaugurated at SGT Campus to make mental health services available to all.

A Panel Discussion was held at SGT Hospital to promote mental health and well-being. The entire event was well coordinated by Dr. Vikas Sharma and Ms. Chandani Pandey.

Highlights of the Educational Trip to 𝐍𝐅𝐒𝐔, 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐡𝐢 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬, 𝐌𝐇𝐀, 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐭. 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲, 𝐅𝐁𝐒𝐂.

The trip was planned to provide students with an opportunity to visit forensic psychology/science laboratories and get exposure to polygraph devices.

While addressing the students, Campus Director, NFSU Prof. (Dr.) S.O. Junare highlighted the courses and career opportunities in the field of Criminal/Forensic Psychology.

Prof. Junare also extended his wishes for research collaboration between the faculty members and students of SGTU and NFSU.

The Faculty of Behavioral Sciences has successfully conducted a 5- day 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 from 26th to 30th Sep, 2022.

The workshop was conducted by eminent academicians like Professor Girishwar Misra, former VC, MGSW, Wardha; Professor Anand Prakash, former HOD, University of Delhi; Dr Ish*ta Upadhyay Bharadwaj, Assistant Professor, University of Delhi and Dr Shubha Ranganathan, Associate Professor and HOD, IIT Hyderabad.

The participants included faculty members of FBSC, M. Phil and PhD research scholars, faculty members from other departments like Nursing and CLC of SGT University. As Professor Girishwar Misra guided the participants through the road to qualitative research like an experienced adventurer, Prof Anand Prakash's wisdom through poetic and philosophical renditions of qualitative research served as the guiding torch for the adventure.

Dr Ish*ta and Dr Shubha provided the practical challenges and implications of working on the field. Apart from being introduced to the paradigms of qualitative research, the difference between the positivist and constructivist approach, the participants also received hands -on training on thematic analysis, narrative analysis, field note writing and qualitative research writing.

We are privileged that the workshop has been adorned by eminent and distinguished professors who have enlightened us and guided us through this adventure of discovering qualitative research methodology.

The keynote address was given by none other than the renowned Professor Girishwar Misra, one of the pioneers of Psychology in India, followed by a detailed description of Grounded Theory by Dr Ish*ta Bharadwaj.

On days 2 and 3, the participants have been left enchanted by Prof Anand Prakash's vast depth of knowledge and his enigmatic presence. Professor Anand Prakash also ensured that the participants received hands-on narrative and thematic analysis training.
