Each UNBOX game has one subject core concept at the core. For example, UNBOX Z cards have the core concept of integers - positive and negative numbers. Integers are introduced in Grade 7th, at the age of 12 years in CBSE, ISCE and most of the State Board systems.

In 2014 and 2015, while traveling through rural and semi-urban India, I encountered a significant challenge of citizens struggling to access reliable service for digital technologies and consumer appliances. It not only caused unnecessary time and financial loss but also highlighted the gap in accessibility to after-sales services in rural areas.

One memorable case was of a young man who traveled 74 kilometers on his bike to the nearest service center, only to learn that the issue with his phone was easily solvable with a software update. This type of scenario was common in villages, where the lack of nearby service outlets forced people to use makeshift delivery systems, relying on bus drivers and conductors, or taking matters into their own hands for more urgent repairs.

Recognizing the need for a better solution, a service network idea was born. In October 2016, Samsung India launched an ambitious initiative: 535 fully equipped service vans to reach rural and semi-urban India. These vans, manned by multi-skilled engineers, could service everything from mobile phones to refrigerators and televisions. They were equipped with essential components, DG sets, and tools to resolve issues on the spot, offering services that rural citizens had long struggled to access.

The vans covered over 6,000 talukas across 29 states and seven union territories, with 29 vans symbolically flagged off to represent each state of India. This was more than a service expansion. It was a paradigm shift that bridged the urban-rural service divide and created new employment opportunities in underserved areas.

The success of the 535 service vans encouraged other organizations to follow suit, eventually leading to the growth of sales outlets closer to villages. By addressing this "chicken and egg" dilemma of what comes first, the sales outlets or product service? This initiative demonstrated that solving the service gap can trigger broader digital and economic inclusion.

This journey shows that sometimes, a small trigger is all that’s needed to bring about positive change. By acting on such opportunities, we can help rural India not only adopt new technologies but also feel empowered to trust and engage with modern products.

Ah, the joys of entrepreneurship! They say family and friends are your biggest supporters, but sometimes they’re just your biggest fans of free stuff. I’ve got this hilarious situation where every time I call a friend to get some feedback on Z cards, the first product from UNBOX by Launchspace, I get… silence. Long, awkward silence. We have completed one month of the launch of our first product.

It is a very short period of time to undertake any deep analysis, but I thought it important to regularly share information with all of you, particularly with those who may be dreaming to be a startup.

The registeration of the company was an easy affair, considering everything is digital now. I feel happy to use the advanced version of the system we piloted as DCA21 (now MCA21) with the government in 2005. The GST registeration process can be improved further, as it has two authorities authenticating the information (Centre and State). The SLAs for GST registration can be tightened a lot, including time given for approval.

The opening of Current Account (in case of Private Limited) is again a task. The banking system has to get integrated with MCA21. So much of paperwork is unnecessary.

We were ready with our first few products (post testing) but were delayed in ordering and making advance payments because of GST and Current Account issues.

We decided to go the Amazon way to begin our product sales. While Amazon needs to reduce its fees for startups to help in the initial cash flow, it does provide some minuscule benefits for first time listing.

We had tested our products and the UNBOX PLAY framework, to design these products, for over more than 1.5 years, and used norms established by various stakeholders to designate the age to play these games. Since our framework helps move parameters to varying degrees across age groups, we decided the UNBOX Z card game to be good for 12+ age group. Our advisors and mentors agreed with the core team to give this number a stretch. And, we designated it as a 10+ useful game.

To our surprise, parents of 7 year olds gave us feedback that their children are finding it very interesting to play and have learnt addition of positive and negative integers in a few rounds of play!

Voila! This is what we had dreamt all the way along. Kids to be able to do things in a playful manner before such things are dealt in the class.

We had never thought our games will be used in offices during break time or in group activities. When the first one was reported from a bank, we setup a B2B pricing listing on Amazon for bulk purchase. Today, on the 30th day of launch, this is a major opportunity for us.

We are amongst the youngest startup in the country, possibly a toddler. We have to learn a lot, everyday, to improve the way we build products and for our customers to use them. Please do visit our simple website and drop a note to me if you feel we can make further improvements.
