Last night I had an unfortunate episode of a big fishbone stuck to my throat. The bone was past my throat and stuck firmly in my esophagus. It was extremely piercing and painfull. I had lots of salivation and spasm. Even I was panic for sometime. I called few doctors but most of the healthcare professionals and institutions were unavailable at that odd hour. Finally one of my junior, and very good ENT specialist Dr. Nihar Patowari called me to his residence for a checkup. But found that it was beyond scope of his dept. After that I called another brotherly doc Dr. Biswajit Deori for endoscopy. He took up the case and finally took out the fishbone. It was such a relief.
With whole of the episode, I came up with few inferences,
- Emergency services are either delayed or not available in Guwahati hospitals.
- Had I been not a doctor I wouldn't have been able to manage and arrange doctors
- There are only few efficient and very good doctors ready to serve at any hour
- There are emergency patients and doctors willing to serve during emergency. But they lack connection.
With the above summary, I feel that someone has to connect emergency patients and doctors to serve during emergency.
