A Red-wattled Lapwing (Vanellus indicus) poses for me on the grounds . It is large wader distinguished with a red fleshy wattle in front of each eye, black tipped red bill and yellow legs, found in West Asia, throughout South Asia. It is quite abundant in India and can be seen in both urban and rural environments.
The local names for the red-wattled lapwing are mainly onomatopoeic in origin “Titodi” in Gujarati, “Titeeri” in Hindi and “Titibha” in Kannada (and in Sanskrit - coming back from my high school lessons, decades back!).

Photographed two different species of Barbets - feeding on guavas.
1. coppersmith Barbet (Psilopogon haemacephalus), best known for its metronomic call that has been likened to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer, and
2. Brown-headed Barbet (Psilopogon zeylanicus), also known as the Large Green Barbet.
The barbets get their name from the bristles which fringe their heavy bills.

Today this property is a Government of India’s award-winning hotel and the only certified heritage hotel of Madhya Pradesh and welcomes visitors from far and wide who enjoy the blend of heritage and history with nature and serenity!.
Deo Bagh rings in the New Year with delicious food laid out in picturesque settings.
Pictures include a buffet dinner laid out for New Years Eve, the hotel dining room ready to welcome guests, the outdoor tables where guests enjoy their afternoon or evening tea and finally a special outdoor meal prepared for more intimate gatherings.
The outdoor meal features a tomato chutney prepared using a stone pestle for grinding, guava chutney prepared with fresh guavas from the family orchards and baingan bharta, dal along with jowar and bajra rotis. The entire meal is freshly prepared with organic produce from the property’s farms by the Deo Bagh chefs using a open-air brick oven as pictured in the final photo.
Happy New Year from Deo Bagh to you all. May this new year be filled with mouth-watering food and satisfying meals!
