A revolutionary initiative aimed at empowering women by offering them two and three-wheeler training
It is heartwarming to see the group of transgender individuals who successfully learned to drive an electric three-wheeler. Their determination and hard work paid off, as they gained not only the skills to navigate the vehicle but also the confidence to embrace newfound independence. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners DMSVK, Warangal & Piaggio whose support made this endeavour possible, reaffirming our commitment to inclusivity and empowerment for all.
Our experienced trainers took on the crucial task of assisting trainees in obtaining their Learner’s License (LLR) while imparting essential knowledge about traffic rules and regulations. Through a well-structured curriculum and hands-on guidance, each trainee got an opportunity to understand the basic steps in learning to drive electric auto rickshaws.
We are thrilled to announce our training camp in Warangal, Telangana, to empower transwowen to drive electric auto rickshaws 🙌🏻🤝 Happy to collaborate with DMSVK, Piaggio and the local leaders, in this pioneering initiative to boost confidence within the transwomen community and help them gain livelihoods in mobility. 🚗
Learning the art of balancing the two wheels, all our trainees rode over their fears associated with handling the motorised vehicles. Slow and steady all of them aced in riding the scooters in no time. The confidence they gained through the entire process of riding their own is unmatched.
We introduce the various vehicle parts, sharing the valuable driving techniques to educate and uplift women with the skills to drive like a pro. Followed by breaking the fear and embrace the open road!
Our first step, motivating the trainees to conquer the roads and embrace new opportunities. Followed by teaching them road safety signs. Now they have successfully cleared their Learners License Test 💫💕

With an aim to create livelihood opportunities for women, today Jai Bharathi Addepalli is redefining the urban mobility space in India. Through her startup— MoWo Fleet which she founded in Hyderabad in 2019, she is building a completely women-serviced mobility fleet.
We engaged in a delightful conversation with Jai Bharathi to learn more about her journey as an entrepreneur and why she wants to convert public roads into equal spaces.

Jai Bharathi is part of the current cohort of our Dignified Jobs Accelerator program with Yunus Social Business where we support social businesses committed to creating jobs in an inclusive and equitable manner.
"Our training is conducted in small batches (average 20 women per batch). We also visit neighborhoods/colleges to impart training, if women wishing to be trained are unable to commute to our centers. Our training modules are expertly designed to reach out to complete beginners.
At our center, we have a fleet of geared and non-geared vehicles that are utilized for training, since not all women have access to vehicles. We do not want ownership of a vehicle to be a barrier to learning for anyone."
"Our motor-training sessions are conducted in a controlled environment to ensure that trainees build their confidence over the training period. During training, we ensure that all safety measures are in place and safe practices are followed by everyone on the ground.
Our instructors also conduct workshops explaining the importance, relevance, and meanings of road safety signs that each driver must know. We ensure a holistic and safe learning experience for women to take the first step into their mobility journey."
We started with a mission of creating awareness about enabling women in the mobility sector and focussed on providing motor driving as a skill. This new skill helps women to be independently mobile and economically independent bringing us closer to the reality of
Today, MOWO turns 4!
Our journey from 2019 till date has been extremely fulfilling. Keeping in line with our vision of empowering a million women in mobility by 2030, we have directly impacted over 15,000 women through our outreach activities and trained over 2500 women in driving.
Major milestones in our journey are:
1. Pivotal in setting up India's first motor-training school in Hyderabad, exclusively for women (assigned as technical partners to Dept of Women & Child Welfare, Govt of Telangana )
2. Moving Boundaries campaign (11,111 km+ motorcycle ride across India), promoting gender inclusion in mobility which led to the Moving Boundaries Summit that brought together government and industry experts from mobility sectors.
3. Our advocacy campaigns had a digital footprint of 10m+.
This was only possible through many public and private collaborations, and we look forward to more such collaborative avenues in the future. Thanking everyone who helped us in marching towards our goal of enabling million women in mobility by 2030!
Beyond Motor trainings, the crucial next step is to encourage women to utilize their newly acquired driving skills to gain employment in mobility sector. To prepare them in their path to livelihoods, we further up skill them with digital and financial literacy programs.
In building an ecosystem to support the women’s journey in mobility, we also focus on policy advocacy involving government and industry stakeholders. This will further open up better opportunities for women yo be a part of the thriving mobility economy.
At MOWO, we understand that building individual confidence in women is important to contributing towards their mobility and freedom. We reach out to women – young and old – and organise motivational talks and workshops to create solidarity and confidence among them. We introduce them to the idea that they could access public spaces differently if they are independently mobile. We believe that these sessions are foundational to creating a social ripple.
These women undergo training in 2/3 wheeler driving on-ground by our women instructors, thus becoming equipped with the skill of driving.
Advancing gender equality through independent mobility as a skill for women improves their access to amenities, community and above all, opportunity. Women challenging the socio-cultural barriers and breaking the glass-ceiling through DRIVING is an innovative approach to building resilient livelihoods for females, giving them access to economic opportunity and financial independence.
MOWO wants to see this country grow, and is committed to help women drive this growth.
We must acquaint ourselves with this dismal reality: While women make up more than 48% of the Indian population, their participation in the thriving mobility industry is less than 2%. Moreover, only ~10% of Indian driving licences are owned by women.
The undervalued and unearthed economic impact of women in the mobility workforce needs attention. And action. We at Mowo, seek to address just that.
"Mobility reflects the state of gender inequality in our society.
In India, women are over 600 million strong, and are making significant strides in many fields, but when it comes to mobility - there is a stark gender imbalance visible on the streets.
Most women have been restricted in their mobility on account of socio-cultural barriers and security. This not only affects their personal and professional growth but also adversely impacts the economy on a broader scale.

Article 19 (1) of the Indian constitution says - All citizens shall have the right— "to move freely throughout the territory of India.”
There is no differentiation based on gender or caste made in our constitution even when it comes to mobility. Yet, the numbers speak differently - as of 2019, the percentage of women who received their driving license was a mere 6.76% .
