Maa Durga is also worshipped as 'Mahishasuramardini' as it is believed that she defeated the demon Mahishasura on the ninth day of the battle with him. The ninth day of the Navratri festival is also dedicated to 'Devi Siddhidatri', a display of shakti by Nav Durga.
