- decreasing rice and wheat buffer stocks in Government Storage in India [at 5 year low]
- Increased import of cereals to world (especially wheat)
- uncertain rain is affecting rice production [during Kharif Season]
Steps taken by Government to address the issue
- Increase Minimum Support Price to promote cereals production
- Controlled export (by disallowing hoarding of grains by foreign countries)
