Against the backdrop of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup and its accompanying frenzy there is another version of the nation’s favorite sport, supported by the Lions Clubs International Foundation, that was unfolded at the Merlin Cricket Stadium in Kolkata on 14.11.2023. Following the 20/20 format two teams (mixed gender teams) of 13 Athletes,10 unified partners and 6 coaches played Unified Cricket – a version of the sport aiming to bring social change.
In Special Olympics the word Unified means to join people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team.

This Unified Cricket match was an aim to promote Special Olympics Cricket with a target to inclusion in World Summer Games 2027, this cricket match was also a promotion of Special Olympics as an organization in India with ICC/ BCCI.
The visiting fans for this Special Event was the England Barmy Army.

The Chief Guest was Manisha Agarwal (District Governor of Lions Club Calcutta), Guest of Honor was Chris Pardey from Special Olympics Asia Pacific, Special Guest was Manish Agarwal (Cabinet Secretary of Lions Club Calcutta and other distinguished guests were present.
This special event was held in the presence of Special Olympics State Chapter President CA Pawan Patodia, Vice President Dr. Rudrajit Sinha, Area Director Mr. Asoke Chaki & Treasurer CA Sunil Singhi.

Special Olympics Bharat West Bengal met on 18.09.2023 at Hard Rock Cafe Kolkata for their Annual General Meeting, where they announced the elected board members for the year 2023 - 2026.

1. President - CA Pawan Kumar Patodia (Chairman & Principal Owner of Kolkata Thunderbolts)
2. Vice President - Dr. Rudrajit Sinha (Super Specialized in Minimal Access Surgery (Laparoscopic, Robotic & Endoscopic) in Gastro Intestinal, Hernia & Bariatric Surgery.
3. General Secretary/Area Director - Sri. Asoke Chaki (More than 40 years experience in the Special Field)
4. Sports Expert - Sri. Tamal Chatterjee (International & National Level Coach of Special Olympics Bharat State Chapter & he has an experience in the Special Field for 30 years)
5. Treasurer - CA Sunil Singhi (managing partner of M/s V. Singhi & Associates, Committee member of Lions club Park Avenue District 322-B1, Committee member of Rotary International Salt lake, One of the team member from last 24 years in cricket teams and participate in all the major events at state and National level with his team in leather ball tournaments and Soft ball tournaments.
6. Expert in Intellectual Disability - Smt. Arpita Sen (She has a 25 years of experience at the Special Field, she is engaged to Special Olympics State Chapter for the past 15 years. She is a teacher – in Charge in Government Sponsored Institution Special School.
7. Parent Representative - Sri. Aditya Chakrabarti (Engaged to Special Olympics State Chapter for more than 10 years)
8. Finance/ Business Expert - Sri. Susanta Das (He is engaged to Special Olympics State Chapter for more than 20 years and he is a businessman)

A deserved reward for hard work and determination by each and every athlete. We are incredibly proud of this magnificent feat, crossing the 200 medal mark, and a great performance across all sports!

It's a proud moments for us..
17 Female Special Athletes & 3 Male special Athletes and 4 Coaches from West Bengal is going to represent Indian team in football, volleyball and Handball, in Special Olympics World Games Berlin, Germany 2023. June 17-25, 2023.Total Indian contingent is of 200 Athletes and 60 coaches out of 31 states of India.
Send off ceremony was organised by the state committee of Special Olympics Bharat West Bengal in August presence of distinguished guests Sri Shilton Paul (Indian footballer), Sri Bikash Panji ( Ex Indian Footballer), Sri Debabrata Sarkar ( Offical East Bengal FC) , Sri Tushar Chatterjee ( Vice Chairman Kamarhati Municipality) Sri Tapan Dasgupta ( Councilor 95 ward KMC) , Sri Asoke Chaki ( Area Director SOB-WB), Dr. Rabindranath Bhattacharjee ( State Commissioner Bengal Boys Scout), Sri Tapan Chandra (Secretary, West Bengal Handball Association) and other many distinguished guest. A stage performance of Birpurush was beautifully done by unified theatre group of Civil Welfare Foundation and Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Bharat West Bengal celebrated World Health Observation Day & Unified Games. As you were aware that World Health Day was celebrated on 07.04.2023, we conducted a General Health Checkup Camp along with Unified Games of Football, Bocce & Unified Yoga for the intellectual disabled athletes on 08.04.2023.

The event was conducted with much fun fare!!
