Did you know about connivent stamens ?

Connivent stamens are the stamens which are in close contact with each other or converging.
These types of stamens can be seen in Wrightia tinctoria in which the stamens are arranged
in a whorl forming a cone-shaped structure enclosing the style and stigma.
The filaments are not fused with each other and there is a wide gap at their insertion point, and this gap is gradually narrowed towards the tip . The narrow gap between the filaments facilitates the passage of sunlight only.
Due to this structure , cross pollination cannot take place and what happens here is when the insect visits the flower its probocis got struck in the narrow gap between the stamens and it struggles , due to this struggling movement of insect a vibration occurs in the flower and the pollen grains fall on the stigma , thus self pollination occurs.

Scientists discovered new genus of fungus from Banyan leaves.

Senior assistant professor Raghvendra Singh of BHU and his team of four researchers worked with Paras Nath Singh of Agharkar Research Institute and Shambhu Kumar of Kerala Forest Research Institute worked together and discovered the new genus of fungus called ‘Neokamalomyces Indicus’, from the samples collected from Uttarakhand.
According to him, the samples of leaves of banyan diseased by the fungus were collected from Uttarakhand during a survey in July 2019. The fungus was found to cause disease (yellow and brown spots) on banyan leaves which later spread to the entire leaves. This fungus has been identified as a new genus.

This research work has been published in a prestigious journal Phytotaxa on November 3.
