What is 'dopamine fasting' and is it good for you? – BBC REEL 06/01/2023

Dopamine is a chemical that we make in our brains.
It is essential to the experience of pleasure, reward and motivation.
The more dopamine that we release in the specific part of our brain called the reward pathway, the more reinforcing or pleasurable that substance or experience is.

The world of overabundance is a new and unprecedented human stressor.

It's very paradoxical because we think 'Oh, we've got all these material goods that we ever wanted.
Our lives should be great. And in fact, what's happened is that we've reached this tipping point where the more stuff we have, the less happy we actually are.

Here's the thing about the gremlins, they are agnostic to which side of the balance is tilted first.
If we initially tilt the balance to the side of pain, like with exercise for example, or an ice cold water bath those gremlins will react by hopping on the pleasure side of the balance, which means that we get our dopamine indirectly and that's something that I prescribe to my patients and recommend in my book Dopamine Nation.

The better way to get your dopamine is indirectly by paying for it up front.

What is 'dopamine fasting' and is it good for you? – BBC REEL In recent years, 'dopamine fasting' has become increasingly popular among the tech workers of Silicon Valley. But what is 'dopamine fasting' and is it actual...

Relax! If this word lights up those regions in your brain that are responsible for - Binging/shopping(retail therapy)/ Alcohol/ TV/ luxury vacations/ Internet. Then you got it all wrong! of what it means to Relax & Rejuvenate without compromising on Growth & High Performance Goals.
You barely scratched the surface of building a metal model of an Elite Performer.
Your Assumed Likes/ Wants/ Priorities are only a Product of manipulation done on an en mass scale that your compass is hijacked beyond comprehension, from a tender age.
Unlearn, Unbutton, Unhook from anything & everything thats self sabotaging indoctrination/ “crab in a bucket” advice silently keeping you off your Purpose.
Learn to relax actively & recalibrate your compass, set your course of realizing your true potential amplify your chance of being in the zone, only to hack into a dis proportionate effort to result ration.
In school, we all learned how to read and write, but we never learned how to use our minds to help us with the most important survival skills of all: staying happy and healthy!
You need to Understand the brain's Prime Motivation and Mechanics. Your brain's main goal is to keep you safe, not happy. the modern market is targeting you at a neuroscience level, Unless you have the Right Tools to Navigate your chances of stepping on a Land Mine are very Likely.
Consumerism might be good for the economy but it has no obligation to Cater your vital needs for Fundamental Well being. Happiness becomes attainable only after your brain is convinced that you are safe. Research has shown over and over again that learning to relax is one of the most important keys to long-term health and vitality.

To engage the powerful forces of the mind on the body, you must DO something. Learn how to ACTIVELY relax.

Whether you practice deep breathing or take a simple leisurely walk, find an active relaxation that works for you and do it. Here are a few more ideas on how to push your pause button:

1) Make choices that make your life balanced — practice saying “NO” to others and “YES” to yourself.

2) Try yoga or meditation, Focus on Breath.

3) Get enough sleep.

4) Eat whole foods that decrease the stress response.

5) Digital Detox, Spend time in Nature/ Low tech environments, Grounding.

6)Focus your mind, keep a check on information overload.

7)Prioritise, Keep it Simple.

8)Gratitude.

your posture!
“The way you hold your body” {sitting or standing} is the foundation for every movement your body makes & can determine how well your body adapts to the stresses on it.

Bad Posture Will Lead to an Imbalance of your Muscles Leading to Tightness & Inflexibility in Certain Groups & others will be Inhibited/ Atrophied.
Over time, These Dysfunctional Adaptations Impair your Body's Ability to Deal with the Forces on it.

POOR POSTURE INFLICTS EXTRA WEAR & TEAR ON YOUR JOINTS & LIGAMENTS, INCREASES THE LIKELIHOOD OF ACCIDENTS, DECREASE LUNG EFFICIENCY.

Research Shows Poor Posture is liked to Scoliosis/ Tension Headache/ Back Pain.

POSTURE CAN EVEN INFLUENCE YOUR EMOTIONAL STATE & SENSITIVITY TO PAIN.
Sitting in an awkward posture/ prolonged usage of computers/ Modern day Mobile Devices for long time will result in a POOR POSTURE.

A lot of Reasons to Aim for a Good Posture.
“You simply feel better when your'e posed well & you pose well when your'e feeling better.” Its mutually reciprocating.🎯

A warrior is not a person that carries a gun.
The biggest war you're ever going through is right between your own ears.
“It's in your mind.”
We're all going through a war in our mind
and we have to callous our mind to fight that war and to win that war.

As the end of the year approaches; Earth is on schedule to complete it’s orbit around the Sun.

We often become engrossed in making substantial and often unrealistic changes in our behaviour and lifestyle.

To create lasting change, we must change our habits.

Your life is essentially the sum of your habits.
We are what we repeatedly do; therefore it is vital that we create good habits.
-
Majority of the time our habits are created unconsciously and executed automatically, however our habits can be intentionally cultivated.
Consistently adopting good habits will help to strengthen neural pathways in our brain ensuring our good habits become our primary choice.

The brain hardwires everything that we repeatedly do, so implementing good habits is a prerequisite to success.
The best way to develop good habits is to commit to the decision by being consistent.
Small specific actions which already fit in with your established routine are more likely to become habitual.
Continue to practise persistently regardless of how many times you fail; your consistency is key to breaking old habits and solidifying new neural pathways.
-
Your brain has to override default wiring in order to implement a new habit, so it is easier to replace a habit, rather than attempting to eliminate an old habit.

-
Neuroplasticity enables the creation of new neural connections and also the removal of unnecessary connections. If we are intentional and consistent in revaluating our thinking and behaviour; our habits can assist to create productivity and success.

If you genuinely believe that something will improve your mood/lifestyle why wait for the first of January?
Why not change unwanted behaviours/relationships at the exact point you realise that they are unhelpful?

Change what you think is necessary; when you think it is necessary.

On your own terms.

An emotion is our evolved biology predicting the future impact of a current event.

In modern settings, it's usually exaggerated or wrong.

Your breath is one of the few places where your autonomic nervous system meets your voluntary nervous system.
It's involuntary, but you can also control it.

I think a lot of meditation practices put an emphasis on the breath because it is a gateway into your autonomic nervous system.

Meditation is intermittent fasting for the mind.

Too much sugar leads to a heavy body, and too many distractions lead to a heavy mind.

Time spent undistracted and alone, in self-examination, journaling, meditation, resolves the unresolved and takes us from mentally fat to fit.

Most of our suffering comes from avoidance.

eg: ‘A Cold Shower’

Once you're in, you're in.
It's not suffering.
It's just cold.
Your body saying it's cold is different than your mind saying it's cold.

Acknowledge your body saying it's cold.
Look at it.
Deal with it.
Accept it, but don't mentally suffer over it.
Taking a cold shower for two minutes
isn't going to kill you.

'If you are willing to look at
another person's behavior toward you
as a reflection of the state of their
relationship with themselves rather
than a statement about your value
as a person, then you will, over
a period of time cease
to react at all.
