St. Bede's College is a women's college in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India.
The college was originally established as a teacher's training institute in 1904 by the Religious of Jesus and Mary.
College will officially remain closed till the 31st of March, 2020 as a precautionary measure in view of Corona virus.
On 9th of March, 2020 , a small assembly was conducted to spread awareness on "I am generational equality: Realizing women's right". College students, members of Women Cell and Principal Dr. Nandini Pathania were present in the gathering. A poster making competition was also organised. The first position was bagged by Muskaan Chauhan, second by Alaya and third by Samriti. The speech by Vice President of Women Cell ended with "On international Women's day lets join Generation equality and become part of the movement."
Students of St. Bede's participated in the Power Walk organised by H.P. State Commission for Women in association with the National Commission for Women. The walk started at The Ridge on Sunday, at 7 pm and culminated at the lift at 8 pm. The idea was to send the message that women just like men can access public places irrespective of the time and place and can walk with dignity in a safe society.
National science day was celebrated in St. Bede's College on 28 February 2020 . The theme was "Women in Science". The function commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the panchdeep. It was followed by a series of presentations. A presentation on Biotechnology was shown by the first year students with special emphasis on the contributions of women in field of Science.This was followed by a presentation on Biofertilizers - their types, advantages and so on.The third presentation by the third years was on Chandrayan II, Gaganyaan and Aditya ll ,including the intricacies and technicalities of the project and the scientists who were a part of it.
A collage making was organised on the topic- "Women in Science".A wonderful skit on the topic, "Theory of evolution", including Lamarcism, Weismar Theory, Neo Lamarcism, Darwinism, Neo- Darwinism and Reproductive Isolationu. theory by the students of B.Sc Medical, was also presented and it really left the audience joyous.

Today, Kiran Kurwade, Director, Office of Strategic Initiatives, Chitkara University visited St. Bede's College. He gave a power point presentation on interview skills and group discussion.He conducted a group discussion where ten people volunteered to participate. After the discuss ended he asked for the feedback on the same from the audience and then highlighted the shortcomings of the group discussion. He gave insights on what a person is evaluated on in a Group Discussion. He said how it is not only about speaking, but rather how carefully one listens to the other speakers and gives others a chance to speak as well. He told the students to be watchful of the words and avoid sarcasm not only in speech but also in gestures.
He also spoke about the attire on should wear while appearing for a personal interview and suggested some answers to the oft asked questions in the interview like how one should introduce oneself on being asked.

The Hindi department observed Matri Bhasha Divas on the 20th of February.The program intitiated with the ceremonial lighting of the panchdeep followed by Ganesh Vandana. An act conveying the diversity in india was performed with students dressed in the traditional attire of the various states in India. Various inter-ship competitions were held in which the students participated enthusiastically. The competitions included slogan writing, declamation and poem recitation.
A lecture on Water Conservation and Rainwater Harvesting was presented by the cadets of 1HP Naval Unit NCC Bilaspur. The theme of the presentation was "Save water and it will save us". Thereafter a rally was also conducted on the same topic from Navbahar to Sanjauli where cadets displayed placards mentioning various ways to conserve water. The entire event ended up with a message that water is the essence of life, save water save life.

The NSS camp ended on 17 December 2019. The camp was 7 day long with each day having a different activity. On the first day, the blood donation camp was organised in which the students actively particied. Day two comprised of training the students in Disaster Management. On day three, a presentation on Breast Cancer by Dr. Manish Gupta, Professor and Head of Department of Radiation Oncology, Cancer Hospital, Shimla gave insight into the facts and the preventive measures against cancer including modifications in lifestyle and early screening. On the same day, all the NSS volunteers also participated in a Zumba session conducted by Zumba Instructor Ms. Vasundhara Sharma, who is also an alumna of the College. Zumba is helpful in achieving good mental and physical health. The Zumba Activity was thoroughly enjoyed by all. On 14 December, 2019, the Day 4 of the NSS Camp began with an assembly conducted by Group 3 NSS Volunteers. They sang a hymn and gave the thought of the day.
As part of the collaboration of NSS Himachal Pradesh with Kerala, the assembly was followed by a learning session of Malayalam language. This session was led by Merin Josey, a student of BA English (Honours) of the college who is also a native of Kerala. The students were taught basic communication words and phrases in Malayalam.
Later, the students were shown a short documentary on Kerala, which was very interesting and informative. In the afternoon session, the NSS Volunteers conducted a cleanliness drive and finally ended the day. Next, there was a Yoga session was organised for all the NSS Volunteers. This was led by Dr. Satyaprakash Pathak, Assistant Professor in the Department of Yoga, Faculty of Social Sciences, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He taught the students some very useful asanas which focussed on rapid breathing and movement of various parts of the body like the neck, spine and the joints.
The Yoga session was followed by a very interactive, eye opening and informative session conducted by Advocate Sheetal Vyas, who is also an alumna of our College. She enlightened us with her views on women safety, women rights and different initiatives made by government to safeguard women rights. Besides that she also notified us with how women misuse their rights and abuse the law. The students really enjoyed the lecture and were overwhelmed to be a part of such a good session. After the lunch the NSS Volunteers led a cleanliness drive and with this the Day 5 of the NSS Camp ended. On Day 6, a lecture was organised for the NSS Volunteers which was delivered by Dr. Ravi Bhushan from the Department of Psychology, St. Bede's College. He spoke on the importance of family functioning with respect to individual development. There was an interactive session with the Principal Dr. Nandini Pathania. She conducted various activities and games which the students really enjoyed. She shared various short stories , telling the students the importance of self love , self awareness and self acceptance. The Day 7 of the NSS camp which was also the closing ceremony, began with the welcome of our Chief Guest, Mr. Om Prakash Sharma.The event began with a short prayer dance by Arushi. The prayer dance was followed by a PowerPoint Presentation on the 6 Days Report of the NSS Camp conducted by Preksha Ahuja and Kavita Sharma .There were an array of events which included a Nepali dance, a nukkad natak based on healthy and sustainable environment. Then the Chief Guest enlightened the students by making them aware of the widespread drug racket especially in Himachal Pradesh. The program ended with the traditional folk dance naati.
On 16th December, 2019, Christmas was celebrated in St. Bedes' College well before the 25th as the classes end on the 21st. The function was graced by the presence of Sister Marina and Principal Dr. Nandini Pathania. Sister Marina enlightened the students with a speech about Christmas. A Student choir beautifully sung the Christmas Carols. For the finale, Santa Claus distributed candies among the staff members and students against the background of "jingle bells" song.
NCC Camp, Day 3. ZUMBA Fitness with Vasundhara
On 12th December 2019, Disaster Management Cell organised Disaster Preparedness & Training session. Senior Platoon Commander, Nishant Chauhan, Platoon Commander Sunil Negi , Platoon Hawaldar Dev Anand and Hawaldar Training Sansar Chand from Home guard & civil defence central training institution, Sargin trained the students in Disaster management. The students had been divided already by the the college into different teams including first aid team, search and rescue team, evacuation and fire safety team. The teams were given the requisite knowledge of procedure that they have to follow during the disaster.
They also explained how the CPR technique is performed. Then a mock drill was conducted and the homegaurd personnel later pointed out the shortcomings in the way students evacuated the building. He made them aware of the right method.
The students and teachers gathered to celebrate the opening of NSS camp on 11 December 2019. Prof. Rajkumar Jishthu, President of Lion Club Shimla and Mr. Madan Kaushal, Prof. and head MBBS, MD Microbiology, PGDMCH and member of HP Blood Transfusion Council were also present. A classical dance was performed followed by a Nukkad Naatak to spread awareness on the importance of blood donation. Many students donated their blood and were given refreshments and certificates for it.
On 6th December, 2019 a drill was conducted by the cadets. The commander of the drill was Cadet Pallavi Sharma. The drill was inspected by the college principal Ms. Nandini Pathania. On 7th december 2019 the felicitation of the cadets and college students was done . The chief guest for this event was Mr. V.K. Sanoria, Associate Professor, St. Bede’s College. A patriotic song was presented by the cadets . An annual report of NCC activities was presented by Cadet Anushka Sharma and Cadet Chavi Tewari.
The ADC of Shimla, Mr. Apoorv Devgan visited St. Bede's College on 6 December 2019. He visited to make the students aware about the much talked about topic - Drug Abuse. He gave a small but informative speech and showed a presentation on Drug abuse and how to stop oneself from getting into drugs.
On the 4th and 5th of December 2019, a National Conference on "Culture, Language and Literature" was organized in St. Bede's College with ELTAI Shimla. Eminent personalities in the field of literature were present, Prof. Khalid Almashikhi from Oman, Prof.Pankaj K Singh, Prof.Z.N. Patil Prof.Paritosh Duggar from Udaipur, Rajasthan, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Prof. Girija Sharma, Dr.Anita Sharma, Dr.Kamayani Bisht, and Prof.Meenakshi F Paul. The seminar was attended by the students of Kotshera college, G.C Kandhaghat, RKMV and the students of St. Bede's.

A singing competition was held in St. Bede's college as a part of heritage week celebrations on 2 December 2019.The students sung various folk songs

The Heritage Club of St. Bedes' College, 'MIRAASA' organized a Heritage walk as a part of Heritage week on 30th of November, 2019. More than twenty students took part in it accompanied by three teachers. The Heritage Walk commenced from Navbahar chowk and ended at Viceregal lodge, Chaura maidan.The students got the chance to observe and learn about the details regarding the rich heritage of Shimla city.The idea of taking the students on the heritage walk was to provide them a platform to connect with history, art and architecture related to their wonderful city, Shimla.
On the occasion of World AIDS Day, a dance and a skit was performed in Peterhoff by the students on 1st December 2019.
On the 2nd of December, 2019, the students of Ship Vikrant organized a Ship Canteen. The canteen gave the students an opportunity to display their culinary skills.
The Heritage Club, 'MIRAASA' of St. Bede’s College organised a heritage quiz on 29th November, 2019 in the seminar room. A total of 8 students participated. The themes were based on built, cultural, natural and living heritage of India and Himachal. The winners were Tanvi Sharma and Akriti Khandelwal.
On 29th of November' 2019, the placement conducted a workshop on Self motivation.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Kiran Kurwade, corporate trainer, career coach, image consultant and writer. He is an aluminus of IIM Calcutta and a certified international career coach.
Mr. Kiran Kurwade motivated the students , gave them insight on goal setting and taught all the students about SWOT Analysis in accordance to their personal goals. It was a very interactive session. Moreover various games and activities were also organized which inspired girls to present their innovative ideas. Students who participated in those activities got tokens and students who attended this workshop got packages which were sponsored by Chitkara University.
On 28th November 2019, Book Talk was organised in the Library of St. Bede's College. The chief guest for the function was Ms. Mita Biswas, a former teacher at St. Bede's College Several students presented their book reviews on various famous works including "A Thousand Splendid Suns", "Funny Boy", "The Monk who sold his Ferrari", "The Color Purple", "The Alchemist", "Ravana" .The first position was secured by Simran Kathait, second by Kriti Verma, and third by Pratishtha Thakur. All the participants were given awards for participation. The chief guest spoke a few words about the event calling it a "thought provoking" exercise and she commended the habit of reading among the students. The participants were given tea and snacks after the book talk.
On 25th November, 2019, "National Milk Day" was celebrated by the Debates and Dramatics society in St. Bede's College to honour the Father of White Revolution- Dr. Verghese Kurien. Related to the theme an Elocution Competition was held in the Seminar Room. The topic of the competition was "The Role of Dr. Kurien in Nation Building".
The NCC unit organised a poster making competition under the Swachh Bharat Mission on 21st November 2019 . The topic was Clean India of My dreams. Students participated enthusiastically. The first position was secured by Muskan Chauhan, second was Pronita and third was Shreya Dubey.
The staff members organised a short function for the students in the Basketball Court of the College. The function began with a friendly basketball match between the teachers and students. Later, there was a game of musical arms and the teachers distributed sweets amongst the students.
The Cadets and staff of college were honoured by the CM for their poly brick initiative and voluntary participation in spreading awareness about "Swacchta" through Nukkad Natak
Ship Canteen- INS Vikas
On 26 September 2019 , the NCC Unit of 1 HP Naval Unit , Bilaspur inaugurated a Swachhta Pakhwada at St. Bede's college which shall continue for next 14 days . Cadets presented a Nukkad Natak on Swachhta with a motivational message that an individual alone can make a lot of difference if they initiate to take a step towards cleanliness.
A quiz competition was also conducted on Swachhta Abhiyaan in the College auditorium, in which all the students actively participated.The Principal, Dr. Nandini Pathania , CTO Dr Shweta Thakur and other teachers were also a part of the inauguration ceremony.
On 25 th September 2019, the women cell of St.Bede's college organized a presentation on Gender Mainstreaming by the chief guest of the function, Prof. Aparna Negi, the chairperson of Department of Economics and Institute of Tribal studies in Himachal Pradesh University . She made the students aware about the difference between Gender and s*x. She told that s*x is biological and by birth and gender is learnt behavior. She emphasised this by how our mind only thinks about a female when we hear about a nurse. She also stressed about how empowerment does not only mean the empowerment of women but also of the LGBTQ
The founding day of the NSS was observed in St. Bede's College on 24 September 2019. On 24th September 1969, the auspicious occasion of the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the NSS was formally launched in the educational institutions of the country. A presentation by Tanvi gave an insight into the foundation of the National Service Scheme. Then a Nukkad Naatak was staged highlighting the hazardous consequences of consuming junk food. Towards the end the entire college was administered oath by the Principal Dr. Nandini Pathania for shunning the use of plastics and rather resorting to eco-friendly measures. The entire college pledged to make Himachal plastic free and hence clean.
On 21st September, 2019 the NCC unit of St. Bede's College arranged a Drug Abuse and Swacch Bharat drive and also visited Anganbadi.
The PTA (Parent Teachers Association) was held in St. Bede's College on 21 September 2019. Parents of various students participated enthusiastically. Then the elections were conducted . Mr. Navlesh Verma was elected as the president while mr. Tilakraj Verma was elected as the vice president . The treasurer is Mr. L D Pal while the executive members are Mr. Subhash Sharma, Dr. Sushma Rewal and Ms. Shalini Thakur. Later, Parent-Teachers' meeting was also held.
On 17 September 2019 the heath club of St. Bede's college organised an awareness session on heath and hygiene.Mrs.Manpreet Kaur, Mrs.Avneet Kaur, Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma and Mr.Rajesh Prashar informed the girls about the difference between a plastic pad and a cotton pad and how the use of plastic pad is dangerous for the health as well as our environment. Lecukoria, irritation, white discharge thyroid, hormonal disorder, pregnancy problem, uterus cancer, cervical cancer and back pain they said are some of the problems associated with the use of plastic pads.
