Glaucoma ( कांच बिंदु / काला मोती ) quite often is in an advanced stage by the time it's detected.
Not because we don't have means to detect it, but because it has no symptoms, like blurring of vision or pain or anything, that we only see it during the course of a routine check-up
So can we not diagnose Glaucoma? We can, but only if we get ourselves get checked regularly, even when no obvious eye issues.
Who are the ones who need to come for an eye check-up even when things seems alright?? (Risk factors)
* Age above 40yrs
* Family history of Glaucoma
* Have Diabetes or hypertension, or on long term medications like for Asthma
* High spectacle powers
The thing about Glaucoma is, the eye pressure damages the nerve in the eye, and whatever part of damaged nerve/lost sight cannot be regained back
But the great news, once detected (the earlier the better) , the rest of the eye nerve and vision can be preserved - we have advanced medicines, eye drops, which can control the pressure, reducing the need for surgical treatment, unlike in the past
And with a few changes in the lifestyle, like regular periodic follow-up and regular medication, one can still continue with a great quality of life

As our part in paying tribute to the Father of our nation, we want to encourage all our senior citizens to get a complete eye checkup - at 50% of regular consultation charges.
Many conditions of the eye, like Cataract, Glaucoma or Diabetic retinopathy, do not get detected, unless looked for, as part of routine check-up even without any symptoms. And sometimes, by the time they are detected, have already caused irreversible damage.
Sugar is sweet, but in its right place, not when it's flooding our bloodstream!
14th November is World Diabetes Day, and this year the theme is "Access to Diabetes Care : If not now, When?"
On this occasion, let's speak on Diabetes, it's effects on the health of various organs in the body.
Eyes are a window to the soul. They show when one has diabetes, they show how good the control is, they also show if there's a possibility any of the other organs are at risk, like Kidney disease. But they show, only when we take the responsibility to get ourselves tested.
