NANCY’S HEART-WRENCHING STORY

Trigger Warning⚠️

Nancy was noticed by kind reporters from Kalwa with one of her legs painfully torn to shreds 😿

Frail little Nancy had also
completely stopped eating and hadn’t passed urine or stools for days! 💔

We rushed her to the vet and an urgent amputation surgery was suggested to be carried out, to prevent infection. We went forward with the surgery. 👨‍⚕️💉

Brave Nancy went through the surgery successfully. We are currently looking after her with great care at Freedom Farm. 🤗

We’ll continue to provide updates on Nancy. In the meantime, let’s send her positive energy. ✨💕

LILY'S FIGHT CONTINUES WITH RENEWED STRENGTH! 👊✨

After not eating for several days, we tried force feeding frail little Lily while continuing her saline treatments. Our support and care has finally helped her start eating! 🍴😺 Her condition has been improving along with her revived will to live. 💖

Lily's vet recommended physiotherapy for her paralysis, which we will be going forward with so she can get back on her feet again. 🐾

Additionally, heroic Lily has achieved a fantastic milestone! She was able to sit up using her own legs. There is slight sensation in her hind legs too. 😁🫶

She has also started using her cute voice to communicate her sweet meows for the first time under our care. 🐱

We are so happy to see adorable Lily continuing to grow stronger. Watching her flourish has finally restored our hopes. 🌈💕

SWIFT ACTION ON ILLEGAL ESTABLISHMENT IN THANE EAST

Yesterday on 21/06/2024 ( Friday) PETA, CAP and Kalote Animal Trust raided a unauthorised and illegal establishment where 12 dogs were kept for commercial purposes.

There is no record of the dogs and were kept without basic amenities, they were kept in a pathetic condition without food, water, light or ventilation.
The place was itself illegal, there was no shed, the dogs were open the rain.
10 breed dogs and 2 indie dogs were seized, all have some or the other medical condition.

Establishment like these are illegal, and no one can work with live animals without people permission and license from the relevant authorities.

We appreciate the cooperation of the local police.

9 dogs were sent to Kalote Animal Trust for Rehabilitation and 3 were sent to CAP Foundation for treatment and Rehabilitation. The dogs include
labradors, rottweiler, shih tzu, Belgian Shepherd & Indie

UNFORTUNATE UPDATE IN LILY'S STORY 🥺❤‍🩹

Little Lily's condition has not been improving since the past few days. Both her eating patterns and activity levels have severely worsened. 😿

X-ray scans have revealed a debilitating compression in Lily's spinal cord.

It is heartbreaking to see poor Lily unable to move due to the paralysis in her hind legs and only little movement in the front legs. 😢💔

She is currently being taken care of with love, alongside saline treatment, at her foster home. 🏠💕

However, recovery is extremely difficult as Lily's current condition is very unsteady. 😔

Although things may seem tough right now, let's all hope that Lily fights back and recovers. 🤞😕

It is high time that the local authorities allocate a dedicated area for a graveyard in Thane.

Given the frequent incidents of stray animal deaths in the city, there is a growing concern among us and fellow animal lovers regarding the need for proper burial space for them.

We hope the authorities will look into this matter and find a solution that benefits everyone, preventing people from being exploited in such situations.

Thank You Loksatta for sharing our voice through your medium.

HELP US SAVE NATU KAKA

TW - JAW INJURY

Natu Kaka was reported to us in an extremely horrifying condition. We couldn’t bear to see him like that on the streets.

The doctors diagnosed that the jaw is completely damaged by maggots.

We got the treatment and dressing done. Although, the doctors have said that there is very little chance of recovery, as he’s very critical, we would still like to believe in that recovery.
We are force feeding him at the shelter and he’s cooperating.

CONTINUE YOUR SUPPORT FOR MONSOON ARRANGEMENTS

We are pleased to inform you that 60% of the preparations at the shelter have been completed for the monsoon, thanks to the generous support of many individuals. 🙌🏻

- The new cat shed is nearly ready, with an increased capacity of 30 cats in the treatment section and 60 cats in the free-roaming section. Only the electrical work and some modifications are required to ensure their comfort.

- The drainage for the trauma ward and sterilization ward is complete, which will prevent waterlogging during the monsoon. Only the rainwater harvesting for the open area of Freedom Farm remains.

- A new temporary shed is ready to accommodate large animals such as donkeys, cows, bulls, and our beloved goat.

- New tarpaulin sheets have been installed to cover the entire shelter wards, made possible by the kind donation of Ms. Neha, who sponsored the sheets as per the measurements of the respective wards.

To complete the rest of the work, we are short of ₹1,60,000/-.

Thane, let's urge the Thane Municipal Corporation and the Animal Husbandry Department to establish dedicated crematoriums ⚰️, provide animal shelters and treatment facilities 🏥, eliminate dependency on private organizations for animal disposal 🚫, and ensure the timely disposal of animal remains .

Raise your voice and seek support from authorities or animal welfare organizations 🗣️ to ensure that strays receive the necessary attention.

Write them an email and keep us in CC. We'll continue the pressure until we get sufficient infrastructure for animals 🏗️.

Reality of Farm Animals in Thane

Six Months ago in Thane, amidst the bustling city, a humble buffalo (we named Masoom) was born on a small farm.

Raised for slaughter, her life was marked by servitude and exploitation. She toiled under harsh conditions, her fate sealed long before she could comprehend it. Her moments of solace were rare and fleeting, as she found comfort in the warmth of the sun and the companionship of other animals.

One day, Masoom was deemed ready for the slaughterhouse and loaded onto a truck. The vehicle broke down in a congested part of Thane (Rabodi), leaving her abandoned. For a week, she endured the sweltering heat and indifferent stares of passersby. Masoom's condition deteriorated rapidly, her once vibrant eyes now dull with exhaustion and despair.

We at Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) Foundation was alerted by concerned citizens, arrived to save Masoom. We transported her to our shelter in the middle of the night, where volunteers and the medical team worked tirelessly to nurse her back to health.

Despite our efforts, Masoom's condition worsened. Her frail body, bearing the scars of her life, eventually succumbed to the damage. Surrounded by gentle hands, Masoom took her last breath under the shelter’s dim lights.

Facing the lack of proper cremation facilities for animals in Thane, we repeatedly contacted the concerned authorities for two days, after the intervention from the municipal commissioner a private service was arranged !!

We wrote to the concerned authorities about this incident,
Masoom's story spread, igniting conversations about the exploitation of farm animals and the need for better treatment and facilities.

Inspired by her story, we advocated for humane treatment and proper facilities for animals. a dedicated cremation facility !!

We hope her legacy will serve as a beacon of hope, reminding the city of Thane of the power of compassion and collective action.

Attention Animal Lovers!
Help Us Protect 82+ Rescued Animals under our care, this Monsoon Season!

As the rain clouds gather and the monsoon season approaches, we at Citizens for Animal Protection Foundation are reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea. Our beloved animal shelter, Freedom Farm, is in need of your support to ensure the safety and comfort of its furry residents during the rainy season.

Freedom Farm is not just a shelter; it's a haven where animals find solace, care, and love. But as the rains descend, so do the challenges. Without proper arrangements in place, our animal friends face discomfort and even danger.

Why It Matters:
At Freedom Farm, every animal has a story, and every life is precious. By ensuring their safety and well-being during the monsoon season, we uphold our commitment to compassion and protection for all creatures great and small. Your support will not only provide physical comfort but also affirm the bond of love and care between humans and animals.

Together, let's stand up for our furry friends and ensure that Freedom Farm remains a beacon of hope and love. Your contribution, whether big or small, will make a world of difference in the lives of these innocent beings.

To give you all about more specific details, we are making the below arrangements :
1. Making an enclosed Cat shed, separate for the ones under treatment, other for free roaming cats.
2. Rain Water Harvesting, every year we face water logging due to construction in nearby areas. As most of the animals are roaming freely, It gets challenging for them to look for shade and for us to feed them in a dry space. So we are doing rainwater harvesting so that we can direct the rainwater in our water source as a long-term sustainable plan
3. we are making multiple sheds in our trauma award, sterilisation ward, large Animals ward, cat ward and the feeding space.

We need a total of 3,00,000/- to make the shelter monsoon proof.

We’ll share updates every alternate day for you all to see the progress and result of your contribution.

In the depths of despair, a heart-wrenching tale unfolds !!

Meet Germu, a loyal German Shepherd, abandoned by his family and left to suffer alone in the harsh streets of Mumbai 🌊When we found him, he was in a critical state, and still is - unable to move, unable to see from both eyes, and tormented by ticks and fleas that infested his once proud coat.

Germu's condition serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of irresponsible pet ownership. Pets are not disposable commodities but sentient beings deserving of love and care. Abandoning them to fend for themselves is not just an act of neglect but a betrayal of the trust they placed in us.

As Germu fights for his life, we're faced with the daunting task of providing him with the medical care he so desperately needs. But we cannot do it alone. We need your help to cover the costs of Germu's treatment and give him a fighting chance at recovery.

Your donation, no matter how small, can make a world of difference to Germu and other animals like him who have been abandoned and left to suffer. Together, we can provide Germu with the care and compassion he deserves and ensure that no pet suffers alone in the darkness of abandonment.

Join us in our mission to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of animals like Germu. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that every pet receives the love, care, and respect they deserve.

Regarding the circular issued by the central government in March regarding the ban on 23 foreign dog breeds, Hon. Animal Welfare Officer of Maharashtra, Sushank Tomar, argues that the central government's ban on breeding these breeds is illegal as dogs, like people, have different temperaments influenced by their environment.
Tomar emphasizes that humans are responsible for dogs' aggressive behavior and that proper nurturing and exercise are crucial for their behavior.

While the Delhi, Calcutta, and Karnataka High Courts have deemed the ban illegal, Tomar criticizes the Maharashtra Animal Welfare Board for not enforcing the PCA (Dog Breeding and Marketing) rules of 2017 properly, leading to unregulated breeding.

Strict enforcement of the PCA (Dog Breeding and Marketing) rules of 2017 will curb illegal breeding, as all breeders should be registered with the State Animal Welfare Board and licensed after inspection. However, this does not seem to be happening because the Animal Welfare Board in Maharashtra does not function according to the rules and only takes action if they receive a complaint.

A proactive approach is required from their end.

The government should not dictate which breed of dog people can keep. A dog's behavior is determined by how it is raised and how its energy is channeled. In this, the role and awareness of the dog's owners are important, and responsible pet ownership plays a crucial role.

If there are complaints of a rise in native dog bites in the future, will they also be banned?

Parents who keep foreign dogs often do not know how to care for them properly. These dogs are not trained and are mostly chained all day.

Dr. Dharmaraj Raibole of Kalyan supports the ban, stating that it targets unethical breeding and encourages the adoption of native dogs to control stray populations.

Nilesh Bhange, founder of PAWS, also backs the ban, viewing it as a means to curb unethical breeding practices.
