Gujarat Ecology Society is the pioneer in documenting the
environmental changes taking place along the entire Gujarat Coast in
1998. Again after almost 20 years (i.e. 2021) GES proudly presents
its flagship publication in form of a book "Revisiting Ecology of
Gujarat Coast-trends of last two decades" an exhaustive study
detailing the environmental changes that happened along the 10 km
a strip of the entire Gujarat coastline of 1,600 km in the last two
decades.
The book comprehensively covers a wide variety of topics like
industrial-urban development, pollution, tourism, fishing, land-use
change, demographics, migration, gender issues, livelihood, and
the overall change in the social and cultural milieu over two decades.
Various findings are supported by data, graphs, and maps along with
authentic references.
The book also highlights the management and action plans for every
four zones (the Gulf of Kachchh, the Gulf of Khambhat, the Saurashtra Coast, and the South Gujarat Coast).

Timely funding of grants especially in developing countries like India is crucial to bridge the gap from lab to land. In a fast-changing world, where the research has moved from "climate change" to "adaptations and mitigations" ecological research grants provide an excellent opportunity for scientists to conduct research on the natural world, advancing our understanding of the complex interactions between living organisms and their environments.
The novelties help in creating effective conservation strategies and management plans thus protecting biodiversity, conserving endangered species, and taking timely action for holistic and sustainable development.
One such great initiative is taken by the Gujarat Ecology Society Under HASMUKH SHAH MEMORIAL AWARDS.
Research grants are available under Hasmukh Shah Memorial Awards to support scientific ecological research where there are limited alternative sources of funding.
Objectives
The Hasmukh Shah Memorial Award, instituted by GES and solely funded by Kachnar Trust, seeks to honor and reward individuals who have researched, developed, or implemented innovative environmental, technical, or social solutions. These solutions must be proven to alleviate prevailing sustainability or societal issues. Such a product, process, or mechanism must have produced ground-breaking results and have promising prospects.
The award consists of a cash prize of two lakh rupees (Rs 2,00,000) for each of the two different categories for researchers and practitioners. There will also be two awards in each category of twenty-five thousand (Rs. 25000) for notable work done. There are a total of six (6) awards.
