When you have diabetes, your body either does not make enough insulin or cannot use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes sugar to build up in your blood. This is why many people call diabetes “sugar”.
People living with diabetes are encouraged to eat a variety of foods from the six food groups, while counting the carbohydrate content of their meal to manage their blood sugar levels.
Our nutrition teams from the Southern Regional Health Authority are committed to assisting you to manage your sugar levels while in our care at our hospitals. Take a look at some of the healthy, delicious and nutritious meals prepared by our staff.
Congratulations to the teams, who received the champion region award for nutrition at the recently held Ministry of Health & Wellness Annual Health Promotion & Education Review 2023/2024.
