Honoured to welcome US Ambassador to Trinidad & Tobago, Her Excellency Candace Bond, on her tour of the May Pen Hospital and May Pen Health Centre in Clarendon. Ambassador Bond joined US Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Nick Perry, and CDC Country Director Dr. Paul Young to learn about our efforts to tackle non-communicable diseases and improve healthcare delivery.

The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA) team shared their successes with the chronic care model in Clarendon—a blueprint for managing chronic health conditions. They also highlighted the Electronic Health Records system, a powerful tool enhancing patient care with efficient registration, scheduling, and clinical documentation. Together, we’re paving the way for a healthier Jamaica!

Did you know that October is Oral Health Month?

Let's recap how the dental teams from across the Southern Regional Health Authority commemorated the month under the theme, "A Happy Mouth is a Happy Body".

The teams conducted outreach activities at infirmaries, schools, communities, and also executed a dental workshop in Clarendon and an oral health competition among several primary schools in Manchester.

Kudos to our hard working teams who continue to provide an essential service to clients.

When you have diabetes, your body either does not make enough insulin or cannot use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes sugar to build up in your blood. This is why many people call diabetes “sugar”.

People living with diabetes are encouraged to eat a variety of foods from the six food groups, while counting the carbohydrate content of their meal to manage their blood sugar levels.

Our nutrition teams from the Southern Regional Health Authority are committed to assisting you to manage your sugar levels while in our care at our hospitals. Take a look at some of the healthy, delicious and nutritious meals prepared by our staff.

Congratulations to the teams, who received the champion region award for nutrition at the recently held Ministry of Health & Wellness Annual Health Promotion & Education Review 2023/2024.
