What causes stomach ulcers?
Stomach ulcers are almost always caused by one of the following:

an infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)
long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen
Rarely, a condition known as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome can cause stomach and intestinal ulcers by increasing the body’s production of acid. This syndrome is suspected to cause less than 1 percent of all peptic ulcers.

Symptoms of stomach ulcers
A number of symptoms are associated with stomach ulcers. The severity of the symptoms depends on the severity of the ulcer.

The most common symptom is a burning sensation or pain in the middle of your abdomen between your chest and belly button. Typically, the pain will be more intense when your stomach is empty, and it can last for a few minutes to several hours.

Other common signs and symptoms of ulcers include:

dull pain in the stomach
weight loss
not wanting to eat because of pain
nausea or vomiting
bloating
feeling easily full
burping or acid reflux
heartburn, which is a burning sensation in the chest)
pain that may improve when you eat, drink, or take antacids
anemia, whose symptoms can include tiredness, shortness of breath, or paler skin
dark, tarry stools
vomit that’s bloody or looks like coffee grounds
Talk to your doctor if you have any symptoms of a stomach ulcer. Even though discomfort may be mild, ulcers can worsen if they aren’t treated. Bleeding ulcers can become life-threatening.

How are stomach ulcers diagnosed?
Diagnosis and treatment will depend on your symptoms and the severity of your ulcer. To diagnose a stomach ulcer, your doctor will review your medical history along with your symptoms and any prescription or over-the-counter medications you’re taking.

To rule out H. pylori infection, a blood, stool, or breath test may be ordered. With a breath test, you’ll be instructed to drink a clear liquid and breathe into a bag, which is then sealed. If H. pylori is present, the breath sample will contain higher-than-normal levels of carbon dioxide.

Other tests and procedures used to diagnose stomach ulcers include:

Barium swallow: You drink a thick white liquid (barium) that coats your upper gastrointestinal tract and helps your doctor see your stomach and small intestine on X-rays.
Endoscopy (EGD): A thin, lighted tube is inserted through your mouth and into the stomach and the first part of the small intestine. This test is used to look for ulcers, bleeding, and any tissue that looks abnormal.
Endoscopic biopsy: A piece of stomach tissue is removed so it can be analyzed in a lab.
Treating stomach ulcers
Treatment will vary depending on the cause of your ulcer. Most ulcers can be treated with a prescription from your doctor, but in rare cases, surgery may be required.

It’s important to promptly treat an ulcer. Talk to your doctor to discuss a treatment plan. If you have an actively bleeding ulcer, you’ll likely be hospitalized for intensive treatment with endoscopy and IV ulcer medications. You may also require a blood transfusion.

Nonsurgical treatment
If your stomach ulcer is the result of H. pylori, you’ll need antibiotics and drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). PPIs block the stomach cells that produce acid.

In addition to these treatments, your doctor may also recommend:

H2 receptor blockers (drugs that also block acid production)
stopping use of all NSAIDs
follow-up endoscopy
probiotics (useful bacteria that may have a role in killing off H. pylori)
bismuth supplement
Symptoms of an ulcer may subside quickly with treatment. But even if your symptoms disappear, you should continue to take any medication prescribed by your doctor. This is especially important with H. pylori infections, to make sure that all bacteria are eliminated.

Side effects of medications used to treat stomach ulcers can include:

nausea
dizziness
headaches
diarrhea
abdominal pain
These side effects are typically temporary. If any of these side effects cause extreme discomfort, talk to your doctor about changing your medication.

Surgical treatment
In very rare cases, a complicated stomach ulcer will require surgery. This may be the case for ulcers that:

continue to return
don’t heal
bleed
tear through the stomach
keep food from flowing out of the stomach into the small intestine
Surgery may include:

removal of the entire ulcer
taking tissue from another part of the intestines and patching it over the ulcer site
tying off a bleeding artery
cutting off the nerve supply to the stomach to reduce the production of stomach acid
Healthful diet
In the past, it was thought that diet could cause ulcers. We know now this isn’t true. We also know that while the foods you eat won’t cause or cure a stomach ulcer, eating a healthful diet can benefit your intestinal tract and overall health.

In general, it’s a good idea to eat a diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, and fiber.

That said, it’s possible that some foods play a role in eliminating H. pylori. Foods that may help fight off H. pylori or boost the body’s own healthy bacteria include:

broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and radishes
leafy greens, such as spinach and kale
probiotic-rich foods, such as sauerkraut, miso, kombucha, yogurt (especially with lactobacillus and Sacharomyces)
apples
blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries
olive oil
Additionally, since people with stomach ulcers may have accompanying acid reflux disease, it is a good idea to stay away from spicy and sour foods while an ulcer is healing.

Learn more about foods that may be good for stomach ulcers — and foods that may not be.

Home remedies for stomach ulcers
In addition to eating healthy foods, the following items may help reduce the effects of H. pylori, the bacteria responsible for many stomach ulcers. However, these supplements are not intended to replace prescription medication or your current treatment plan. They include:

probiotics
honey
glutamine (food sources include chicken, fish, eggs, spinach, and cabbage)
Your doctor may also have suggestions for things you can do at home to relieve discomfort from your ulcer. Consider talking to your doctor about these natural and home remedies for ulcers.

10 factors that have a bad effect on your stomach
1. Eating at the wrong time: Busy work makes you forget to eat and drink, only when you see your stomach boil, you rush to eat a lot to dispel hunger, which is one of the causes of damage to your stomach health. thick you. You should know that the stomach is a very 'timetable' organ. During a day, its secretion of gastric juice will be at the most and at least physiological in order to facilitate the timely digestion of food. When stomach acid and enzymes present in gastric juice do not have food to neutralize, it will self-digest the stomach lining, causing damage to the gastric mucosa, especially at the time when gastric secretion is at its greatest. Therefore, if you eat at the wrong time, you will easily get stomach diseases.
2. Eating too much in the evening: The fact that you skip breakfast, eat lunch in a hurry to cope, then eat a lot at dinner or eat at night before sleeping will make the digestive system which is very healthy. Your strength is easily weakened. Because eating too much dinner or eating at night before going to bed will not only affect sleep, cause obesity, but also force your intestinal tract to work overload, causing excessive secretion of gastric juice, causing erosion of mucous membranes. gastric mucosa. Over time, this will lead to diseases such as inflammation, stomach ulcers.
3. Unhygienic eating and drinking: Unhygienic eating and drinking is very easy to make you sick with intestinal diseases such as acute gastritis, stomach pain, bloating, nausea... Especially, in the summer In hot weather, when bacteria grow rapidly, food is very perishable, eating foods that are not fresh will make you more susceptible to these diseases. Helicobacter pylori bacteria is the cause of many chronic stomach diseases, which are transmitted through unhygienic food and drink. Helicobacter pylori parasites in the lining of the stomach and duodenum, causing inflammation of the lining, leading to stomach diseases. It also exists in the oral cavity and saliva of infected people. Therefore, not eating and drinking together can reduce the risk of infection with this bacteria. In particular, this must be paid more attention, if someone in your family has stomach ulcers.
4. Get cold: The stomach is a very sensitive organ to the climate and outside temperature. When our body is cold, the stomach will contract, causing symptoms such as stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting, diarrhea ....
Usually we only pay attention to the cold room to keep warm in the winter, without knowing it, even in the summer, eating and drinking cold food or sitting for a long time in an air-conditioned environment can also make the stomach cold, which affects the body. to function.
5. Excessive fatigue: Whether it is physical or mental work, working too hard will make you too tired. This not only reduces the body's resistance, but also weakens the defensive function of the gastric mucosa, easily leading to an imbalance in the excretory function of the stomach due to insufficient blood supply. Excess stomach acid, less gastric mucosa, gastric mucosa will be damaged.
6. Mental stress: The arising and development of many stomach diseases is closely related to our mood and spirit. Stress, affliction or anger will affect the excretory, motility and digestive functions of the stomach. Therefore, people with depression, anxiety or long-term mental damage are more likely to get stomach ulcers.
7. Drinking a lot of alcohol: Drinking a lot of alcohol not only damages the liver, makes the skin dehydrated, kills brain cells, but also directly damages the stomach lining, causing the stomach lining to become inflamed, washed, and ulcerated. or bleeding. In addition, drinking alcohol slows down the healing process of stomach ulcers. Therefore, people with stomach diseases should absolutely not drink a lot of alcohol.
8. Smoking addiction: Smoking not only harms the respiratory system but also harms the stomach. People who smoke too much are more likely to get gastritis. This is because the ni****ne in ci******es will harm the stomach lining in a number of ways: promoting blood vessel constriction, reducing the blood supply to the stomach lining; inhibiting the synthesis of Prostaglandin has a protective role in restoring the gastric mucosa; affect the emptying function of the stomach, easily causing backflow of bile in the stomach, which is the main component in bile, which can cause great damage to the gastric mucosa; Promotes acid secretion and pepsin directly corrodes the gastric mucosa.
9. Drug abuse: Many drugs can harm the stomach lining. For example, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as phenylbutazone, ibuprofen, indomethacin, aspirin all produce analgesic effects through the mechanism of inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, which has a protective role in the gastric mucosa. In addition, hormonal drugs containing corticosteroids often cause inflammation, ulceration or perforation of the stomach. Therefore, when using these drugs, you should follow the instructions of your doctor and it is best to take them after eating or at the same time taking additional substances that have a protective effect on the stomach such as sucralfate.
10.Eat too fast If you eat too fast, the food will not be digested properly in the oral cavity, directly transferred to the stomach while still in raw form for further digestion. This will directly harm

What Are The Symptoms Of Stomach Pain? Causes, Diagnosis, and Final Treatments
Today, stomach pain is becoming more and more common in society. More dangerous, stomach pain not only causes discomfort for the patient, but it also contains the risk of other dangerous complications such as stomach bleeding, gastric perforation, even stomach cancer. Therefore, patients need to understand the causes, signs of stomach pain and symptoms so that it can be detected and treated early.
1. Learn about the stomach
The stomach is also known as the stomach - a part of the digestive system. It is a food pouch that is connected to the duodenum. A normal stomach will hold about 1-1.5 liters of food capacity.
1.1. Main structure of the stomach
The stomach is made up of two parts, the antrum and the body of the stomach. The surface of the stomach has four layers: the serosa, the muscular layer, the submucosa, and the mucosa.
1.2. Functions of the stomach
The main functions of the stomach include: motility, peristalsis, excretion, and digestion.
Motor function relies on frequent contractions in the muscular layer of the stomach. When the stomach is full, the tone of the stomach is reduced, and when the stomach is empty or empty, the tone is increased.
Peristalsis of the stomach occurs when food enters the stomach about 5-10 minutes. The closer the food comes down to the heart, the more peristalsis increases. The result is contractions, kneading, grinding food with gastric juices and moving food down the intestines.
A day the stomach can excrete 1.5l of gastric juice, protein, albumin, immune globuin and amino acids as well as enzymes such as: Pepsinozen, pepsin, glucide, glycoprotein...
The digestive function has the effect of regulating the opening or closing of the pylorus, helping to stimulate the secretion of digestive enzymes. The stomach then produces secretin to stimulate the secretion of pancreatic juice.
2. What is stomach pain?
This is a very common gastrointestinal disease today. Stomach pain has many symptoms and ways to recognize it through the treatment of abdominal pain or the manifestation of external disease of the patient's body. Most patients have some signs such as heartburn, bloating, belching, epigastric pain ... these are the most common symptoms of stomach pain.
3. Causes of stomach pain
To have effective prevention and treatment measures, patients should understand some of the main causes of stomach pain, which are:
Due to smoking
Due to drinking alcohol
Due to unscientific eating
Caused by bacteria HP
Due to stress, stress...
3.1. Causes of stomach pain caused by smoking:
Smoking is also one of the most common causes of stomach pain today. The drug has a lot of toxic substances that increase the secretion of HCL and Pepsin (these are the two causes leading to the erosion of the gastric mucosa).
3.2. Causes of stomach pain due to alcohol use:
Alcohol is considered the leading beverage causing digestive diseases and health damage. Most of the substances in alcohol cause damage to the stomach lining gradually leading to the possibility of stomach ulcers or worse, bleeding or stomach perforation if not treated promptly.
3.3. Causes of stomach pain due to eating
Improper eating and drinking is also one of the causes of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract such as colon, appendix and especially stomach pain. Due to some unscientific eating habits, unscientific rest, or unsafe food, eating a lot of hot and spicy food, etc., leading to a greater possibility of disease.
3.4. Helicobacter pylori causes stomach pain
According to research at Favina General Hospital, more than 75% of stomach pain cases are caused by HP infection. Helicobacter pylori, after a period of time residing in the stomach, will damage the mucosa, leading to ulcers, causing stomach pain.
3.5. Causes of stomach pain due to mental stress
Mental stress causes stomach spasms, thereby stimulating intestinal peristalsis, making stomach pain worse. Therefore, while treating stomach diseases, doctors at favinahospital always recommend that patients should always keep a good spirit to avoid affecting the treatment process.
4. Signs and symptoms of stomach pain
According to leading gastrointestinal endoscopy professors in Vietnam, most people with stomach pain have 5 signs and symptoms, the main symptoms are:
Abdominal pain above the navel (epigastric region)
Stomach full of indigestion
Ợ Sour, belching, heartburn...
Nausea or vomiting
Bloody stools
4.1. Stomach pain location
Stomach pain on which side? where, where...? Most people with stomach pain initially have signs of abdominal pain located above the navel, also known as epigastric pain. In addition, the patient may have dull abdominal pain or severe pain continuously for a period of time. Abdominal pain on the belly button is getting thicker and heavier or pain when too full, abdominal pain when too hungry ... is one of the recognizable symptoms of stomach ulcers in the early stages.
4.2. Epigastric pain
This is a common sign in patients with stomach pain. People with duodenal disease also have this symptom. The patient will feel a dull pain and tightness in the abdomen, a burning pain that is very uncomfortable.
Severe abdominal pain does not appear with epigastric pain. The location of stomach pain can be from the abdomen to the chest or spread to the back; usually appear in one to two weeks in the early stages of the disease and recur again and again. When the weather changes or the seasons change, the pain will reappear. If this condition persists, the patient will suffer from constant pain.
For people with gastroduodenal pain, epigastric pain is often meal-related and cyclical.
In patients with peptic ulcer disease, epigastric pain is often cyclical.
For people with stomach cancer, abdominal pain is not cyclical, but continuous.
For patients with duodenal ulcers, when fasting, pain will appear.
For patients with stomach ulcers, when eating food, they will feel pain in the epigastrium, but when they are hungry, there is no pain.
For patients with stomach ulcers, when eating food, they will feel pain in the epigastrium
4.3. Stomach full of indigestion
Patients with stomach pain often have signs of poor appetite expressed by reduced food intake or poor appetite.
The reason is because food is digested slowly, after eating, the patient feels bloated, full, feeling heavy and warm.
After eating, the patient feels epigastric pain, burning in the epigastrium, then spreading to the sternum and causing nausea.
4.4. Due to microorganisms
Many types of bacteria and fungi cause stomach ulcers that cause pain and bleeding. Among them, the most common is HP bacteria, which stands for Helicobacter pylori. Many cases of patients infected with HP bacteria but do not have stomach ulcers, drinking a lot of alcohol, eating toxic foods will create a good environment for bacteria to grow and damage the stomach.
Helicobacter pylori is one of the causes of stomach diseases
4.5. sour, burp
This is a very important symptom of stomach pain. Heartburn, belching cause discomfort for the patient, affecting the patient's daily life.
The cause of this phenomenon is due to a disordered stomach function, so food is difficult to digest, leading to fermentation. Patients with stomach pain have belching, heartburn and accompanying signs of epigastric pain. The patient will feel a bitter or sour taste when food or slightly up the throat but only halfway up, at this time the patient will feel pain in the breastbone area or behind the breastbone.
4.6. Nausea or vomiting
This is a manifestation of a disease such as acute gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric bleeding or possibly stomach cancer. When the patient vomits a lot, it will lead to consequences such as tearing the lining of the esophagus, seriously affecting health.
Besides, vomiting a lot causes dehydration and electrolytes in the gastric juice to occur. More severe can be low blood pressure, cardiovascular collapse. Patients with rapid weight loss lead to anemia, edema...
4.7. Psychological factors
People who are constantly under stress and pressure often have a higher risk of stomach pain than the general population. The cause is due to stress, pressure causes the stomach to increase contraction and secretion, imbalance leads to self-erosion of the mucosa, causing ulcers.
People who are constantly under pressure often have higher digestive diseases than usual
4.8. Bloody stools
Blood that flows out of the walls of blood vessels into the lumen of the digestive tract is called gastrointestinal bleeding. This sign is very serious, it can be life-threatening in a very short time. Therefore, when seeing these signs, the patient should be taken to a medical facility immediately for prompt treatment.
When you have gastrointestinal bleeding, there will be the following manifestations: vomiting fresh blood or black blood, blood in the stool is bright red or black. Patients will feel dizzy, dizzy, and low in blood pressure when in acute blood loss.
When signs of gastrointestinal bleeding appear, it is most likely a manifestation of diseases such as: acute gastritis due to drug use, peptic ulceration of the stomach and duodenum, ruptured esophageal veins due to liver disease.... More serious is stomach cancer.
Gastrointestinal bleeding is very dangerous, if not treated promptly, the patient can be life-threatening.
When seeing any of the above signs, the patient needs to go to the hospital for examination, diagnosis and timely treatment to avoid dangerous complications later.
5. Dangerous complications of stomach pain
Stomach pain is a disease that can be treated very simply if it is diagnosed and detected in time. But a lot of patients are subjective and disregard the progression of the disease, causing some dangerous stomach diseases that we cannot know in advance. Some complications of stomach pain are:
Stomach ulcers
Gastritis
Gastroesophageal reflux
Bleeding (bleeding) in the stomach
Stomach cancer Stomach cancer
5.1. Complications into peptic ulcer disease
This is a condition in which the lining of the stomach and duodenum is damaged, causing inflammation. Currently at FaViNa General Hospital, doctors say: the disease can be encountered at any age and the characteristics of the disease depend on the location of the ulcer. Some common ulcers are: duodenal ulcer, small curvature ulcer...
5.2. Complications into gastritis
This is a disease caused by inflammation of the antrum of the stomach. While antral inflammation is not too dangerous, it can spread the infection to other areas, causing frequent discomfort for the patient.
5.3. Progression to gastroesophageal reflux disease
As one of the stomach diseases, if not treated early, it will lead to damage to the esophagus, causing dangerous diseases such as: respiratory inflammation, esophageal stricture and esophageal cancer...
5.4. Complications causing stomach bleeding
Also known as stomach bleeding disease, when the body will be tired and lack of vitality, if not detected and stopped in time, it can lead to life-threatening danger to the patient.
5.5. Dangerous complications into stomach cancer
The disease develops from tumors called gastric polyps. When infected, the patient will experience rapid weight loss accompanied by vomiting, bloody stools. This is the second most common disease in Vietnam. Gastric polyps are considered as one of the most dangerous complications of gastric pathology. Every year around the world, more than 600,000 people die from stomach cancer. If detected early with a good prognosis, the patient's life expectancy can be extended.

Are there ways to check the effectiveness of Hp eradication treatment?
Ask
Hi doctor. I often have upper abdominal pain. I went to endoscopy and got Hp. Doctor let me ask if I want to go back to check, do I need an endoscopy? I am afraid of endoscopy because I have had many endoscopy. Please consult your doctor to help you.
Answer
Hi, you have been diagnosed with Hp (Helicobacter pylori) infection by endoscopy. If you have been treated with an Hp eradication regimen, you should check the treatment effectiveness of the regimen to see if it has completely eradicated Hp. Because many cases after taking Hp killer feel better, no stomachache, no vomiting... thought that Hp had been wiped out, but actually when I checked again, I still had Hp. Before the test you should remember this important thing: do not take stomach medicine (acid-suppressing drugs) for 2 weeks, and antibiotics are included in the regimen for 4 weeks. Because if you are taking medicine, the Hp test results will not be accurate (whether there is really or no Hp, the answer will be negative). On the issue of how to check Hp, we usually have 2 ways: blowing air (blowing bubbles) and endoscopic gastroscopy. If you did not have peptic ulcers in previous colonoscopy, or the degree of gastritis is not much, you can choose to check Hp by the method of air blowing. But if there are many lesions in the previous endoscopy, you should repeat the gastroscopy to check the changes of those lesions (reduce or worsen) to have an appropriate treatment regimen.
Some advice with you. Hello
