Young Women's Leadership Institute
YWLI is a feminist centre of excellence for nurturing the leadership of young women and girls. YWLI
The Young Women’s Leadership Institute is feminist organisation . We are a driving force that motivates and sets precedence to anchor transformative leadership in young women. We lead in creating spaces, through unconventional feminist platforms, to embrace and collaborate with embryonic groups. YWLI is also a centre of knowledge regarding the rights of young women in Africa and the diaspora.
In solidarity with for our lives, our offices remain closed on the 8th and 9th.
We march because we demand change in the protection of our rights!
We demand safety for all women and girls in our diverse existence and being!
We march because we are not safe to exist in this country!
We march because we are being killed for being us, for existing and being us!
We are marching because FEMICIDE is a crime and is not recognized as FEMICIDE in our laws and policies.
We march because violence against women and girls keeps rising despite the government's role to ensure we are safe!
We march because of the state-sanctioned abductions, disappearances and killings!
We march to hold them accountable!!

I'm honored to be here today as a panelist on the "Defending the Dream" campaign, organized by the Young Women's Leadership Institute. Our theme for today is "Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV)." This issue is increasingly critical as our lives become more intertwined with technology, and it is essential that we address the psychological effects and how to navigate them.

Have you sent your public participation letter opposing the amendment of the Road Maintenance Levy Fund Act yet?
🚨 **Important Update!** 🚨
The Young Women’s Leadership Institute (YWLI) is deeply concerned about the Ministry of Roads and Transport's proposed amendment to the Road Maintenance Levy Fund Act of 1993. The amendment seeks to increase the road maintenance levy by KSH 7.00, raising it from KSH 18.00 to KSH 25.00 per litre of petrol and diesel.
**Why This Matters:**
💡 **Increased Cost of Living:** The levy hike will lead to higher fuel prices, which will in turn increase transportation costs. This will cause prices of essential goods and services like food, medication, and transport to soar.
💡 **Burden on Vulnerable Populations:** Low-income families, women and girls, and young people will bear the brunt of this financial strain, making it even harder for them to meet basic needs.
**What We Propose:**
✅ **Efficient Use of Existing Funds:** We urge the government to ensure current funds allocated for road maintenance are managed efficiently and transparently, reducing wastage and providing necessary resources without adding to the financial burden on citizens.
✅ **Comprehensive Impact Assessment:** Before any changes are made, a thorough assessment of the economic impact on various demographic groups must be conducted.
✅ **Enhance Transparency and Accountability:** Implement measures to ensure the existing funds are used effectively and transparently to increase public trust and support.
📢 **We strongly urge the Ministry of Roads and Transport to reconsider this proposed amendment.** Instead of raising the levy, let's ensure every coin is accounted for and utilized efficiently.
Let's work together to protect our communities from increased financial burdens! 🙌

Happy Labor Day to all the fierce feminists out there! Today, as we celebrate the hard work and resilience of workers in Kenya, let's also stand in solidarity with those on the frontlines responding to humanitarian crises like floods and fighting for labour rights.
To all the feminists who tirelessly advocate for gender equality in the face of adversity, your dedication is truly inspiring. Whether providing relief in flood-affected areas, fighting for recognition of unpaid care work women and girls do or fighting for fair wages and safe working conditions, your work is crucial in creating a more just and equitable world.

Our Story
YWLI is a feminist centre of excellence for nurturing the leadership of young women and girls. YWLI provides spaces and opportunities for young feminists/ young women and girls to engage in setting their own agenda and in determining how the world around them should change. This mission centralises supporting the voice, impact and influence of and by young women and girls.
We continue to challenge conventional, patriarchal structures to build new ways of thinking about young women’s and girls’ role in leadership, organising, living and knowledge creation. We shall do this through creation of unconventional feminist spaces that encourage learning, enquiry, participation and fun.
VALUES
YWLI adapts the Charter of Feminist Principles for African Feminists as a guiding framework and symbol of YWLI’s collective values. The charter informs the organization’s way of working, re-affirms YWLI’s commitment to dismantling patriarchy and its manifestations, and serves as a reminder to the duty to defend and respect the rights of all women unreservedly.
