MYOMECTOMY

May 20th the Gynaecology team of Simon Kigondu & Samuel Wachira shared with 75 fibroids that they’d removed from a single uterus.

Guess what, the Excella team is back, this time having removed 112 fibroids from a single uterus.

WHY ARE FIBROIDS REMOVED?

Fibroids are removed when they are causing problems. Your gynaecologist will call them SYMPTOMATIC that is they are causing problems that are interfering with quality of life.

The problems can be as simple as ‘Why do I look pregnant & I am not?’

Another problems can be
‘I bleed heavily when on my menses’

Another problem can be
‘I am trying to conceive but I think these fibroids are interfering’

Another problem can be
‘I am getting these lower Abdomonal pains & Inhave been told my fibroids are degenerating’

We advise that you get your cervical cancer screening done this month. For abnormal PAP smears and oncogenic HPV positive results we advise on colposcopy.

Colposcopy is a procedure to closely examine your cervix, va**na and v***a for signs of disease.

During colposcopy, we use a special instrument called a colposcope that magnifies what is seen on the cervix, va**na & v***a.

During colposcopy of an area is found to look abnormal a biopsy can be taken to be looked at by the pathologist at Hercules Healthcare to see if further treatment is necessary.

During colposcopy also abnormal areas of the cervix can be cut off in a process called LEEP & sent for histology.

Uterine Fibroids

Also known as leiyomyomas can present with:
1. Heavy menstrual bleeding that can lead to anaemia
2. An enlarged uterus felt as an enlarged lower abdomen (pot belly)
3. A feeling of something moving in the lower abdomen
4. Lower abdominal pain
5. Feeling of urinating many times if the fibroids press on the urinary bladder
