To optimize quality of care and achieve sustainability of HIV and TB management, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC on behalf of the The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) conducted a Site Improvement through Monitoring Systems (SIMS) exercise to selected Ministry of Health facilities supported by LVCT Health’s project in County.

The exercise sought to evaluate the integration of HIV and TB services in the Health facilities in the spirit of the journey towards self-reliance and a seamless transitioning of HIV and TB services to the County and enhance the quality of care and treatment for adults and pediatrics.

The team also conducted a practical, evidence-based approach to preventing patients and healthcare workers from being harmed by avoidable infections through an Infection Prevention and Control approach.

The SIMS exercise is a quality assurance methodology used to increase the impact of PEPFAR programs on the HIV epidemic through standardized monitoring of the quality of services at the facility level.

LVCT Health is implementing Vukisha95, a five-year program funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention )CDC) through The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to support the sustainable implementation of comprehensive, high-quality HIV prevention, care, and treatment interventions in Homa Bay and Kisii Counties.

LVCT Health’s DREAMS program has partnered with Day Africa to train young women in Homa Bay County on farming techniques to maximize productivity on their limited pieces of land. This is done using intensive planting methods, crop rotation, companion planting, and other sustainable farming practices to improve living standards, achieve financial independence, and reduce the risk of acquiring HIV.

Kihoma Young Women Group from South Kasipul Ward has been trained in the entire value chain of goat farming. They now have the skills to construct a goat barn using locally available resources, grow their fodder, and prepare silage. They are optimistic this initiative will enhance food security in their households and the entire community.

LVCT Health through the support of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is implementing the Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, Safe (DREAMS) program whose main objective is to offer comprehensive and sustainable high-quality combination HIV and Teenage Pregnancy prevention interventions among Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Homa Bay County.

The Support and Advocacy for Wellness and Access to HIV Prevention (SAWA) project in partnership with the Department of Health and the community conducted a weeklong co-creation workshop to develop impactful HIV prevention messages that normalize HIV prevention and increase uptake of HIV combination prevention interventions among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW).

The SAWA project aims to establish HIV prevention knowledge and support system based on an economic empowerment approach, create a conducive environment for Adolescent Girls and Young Women to discuss HIV prevention and use of HIV prevention interventions without fear of stigma, engage boys and men in positive masculinity dialogue and mentorship and influence key stakeholders to support HIV prevention for adolescents and young people.

LVCT Health has sub-granted Activate Action to implement the SAWA project, a 2-year program funded by ViiV Healthcare targeting adolescent girls and young women as primary beneficiaries and adolescent boys and young men, female s*x workers, and people who use drugs as secondary beneficiaries with interventions that create change at the community level by normalizing HIV prevention and increasing uptake of HIV combination prevention interventions in Kosewe Ward, Ndhiwa Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

πŸ’‘πŸ’‘Exciting news from Kisumu County!

We just wrapped up a fantastic workshop with young people, filled with engaging and insightful discussions. Together, we developed impactful messages to empower our youth for an HIV-free future!

"I am excited to be here today to co-develop messages with my peers. As a young person, I want to be in charge of my health for a healthy future," said Sharon, a participant in the workshop.

LVCT Health's Maximizing Options to Advance Informed Choice for HIV Prevention (MOSAIC) project underscores the importance of involving adolescents and young people in developing tailored messages that resonate with the various segments among them, helping to tap into their unique motivators for seeking HIV prevention methods.

Our collective efforts with partners are making significant strides in advancing access to and uptake within a multiproduct approach that includes HIV prevention options such as oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (oral PrEP), the Dapivirine ring (also called PrEP ring), and Long-acting injectable Cabotegravir (CAB PrEP).

MOSAIC is a five-year (2021-2026) global project funded by the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to help adolescent girls, young women, and other women prevent HIV by accelerating the introduction and scale-up of new and emerging biomedical prevention products.

πŸŽ“ We're thrilled to announce that approximately 100 children in County have graduated from the HIV Exposed Infants (HEI) program! Over 24 months, these children completed a program designed to protect them from contracting HIV from their mothers.

This milestone ceremony, supported by LVCT Health's project in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), celebrated mothers who safely breastfed and weaned their babies without transmitting the virus. The event honored these achievements and focused on reducing stigma and discrimination within the community.

Participants learned about the journey to eliminate mother-to-child transmission (eMTCT) through comprehensive maternal and infant careβ€”from preconception and antenatal care to delivery and the breastfeeding period. Local administrators, healthcare professionals, the sub-county Health Management Team, and community members attended the ceremony, applauding the concerted efforts to end pediatric HIV.

To enhance the quality of our Vukisha95 Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) program, we recognize the importance of service providers maintaining their skills and knowledge through regular refresher training. Our training reinforces healthcare workers' attitudes, behaviors, skills, and knowledge necessary to deliver safe and person-centered VMMC services.

Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) is a one-time preventive intervention that reduces the risk of heteros*xual HIV transmission from women to men by 60% in high HIV prevalence settings. It offers men substantial lifelong partial protection against HIV and other s*xually transmitted diseases. It also reduces the risk of pe**le cancer and cervical cancer in female partners of circumcised men.

In , our Vukisha95-supported VMMC services provide a comprehensive care package in 8 static sites and 22 outreach sites, focusing on males aged 15 and older. We've reached more than 7,440 males, achieving 103% of our annual target.

LVCT Health will continue to work with VMMC-supported sites to improve the uptake of VMMC services among priority age groups by adopting successful social and behavior change approaches.
