Yay? Nay?
On these streets a lot of people are a scam, be careful.
If you have type 2 diabetes, the best way there is, is to reverse it but there is no cure yet
We want to take a moment to remind everyone of some essential practices we must consistently observe in our journey to manage diabetes effectively. These simple yet crucial steps can make a significant difference in maintaining our health and well-being.
๐๐ก๐๐๐ค ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฒ: Whether itโs your random sugar levels or fasting sugar, donโt let a day go by without monitoring. Regular checks help you stay on top of your condition and make informed decisions about your diet and medication.
๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ: Itโs tempting to self-manage by purchasing medications over the counter, but please, always prioritize your scheduled consultations with your doctor. These visits are critical for adjusting your treatment plan and catching any potential issues early.
At least twice a year, ensure you do a urinalysis and HbA1c test. These tests give a comprehensive picture of your blood sugar control over time and help detect any early signs of complications.
Make it a point to get an eye checkup, renal function tests, and lipid profiles at least once a year. These screenings are vital for detecting and managing complications that can arise from diabetes, such as diabetic retinopathy, kidney disease, and heart issues.
Every morning as you bathe, take a moment to inspect your feet. Look for any cuts, sores, or signs of infection. Early detection is key to preventing serious complications.
Before taking any medication, always read the package insert thoroughly. Pay close attention to the dosage, potential side effects, contraindications, and any other warnings. This ensures that you are fully informed about the medications you are taking.
Sit down with a nutritionist at least once a year to review your diet plan. Our nutritional needs can change over time, and a professional can help tailor your diet to best support your health.
๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ : Keep track of your weight by weighing yourself regularly. Significant weight gain or loss can be an indicator of how well your diabetes is being managed and may necessitate adjustments in your treatment plan.
Your body has a way of signaling when something is off. Whether itโs unusual fatigue, dizziness, or any other symptom, pay attention and donโt hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider.

Decades ago, when high blood cholesterol was identified as a risk factor for heart attacks, cholesterol-rich foods like eggs were labeled harmful to heart health. The assumption was simple: since eggs contain cholesterol, consuming them could increase blood cholesterol levels, leading to heart disease. This gave rise to the rule of limiting egg intake, even advising to avoid them altogether. This theory was widely accepted, even by medical professionals, as it seemed logical to associate dietary cholesterol with blood cholesterol and heart attacks. However, this straightforward assumption warrants further scrutiny.
Before jumping to conclusions, let's get the basics right. Despite its bad reputation, cholesterol is a crucial compound needed by all of our body's cells. It forms an integral part of cell membranes; without it, our bodies would not function properly. We would fall apart without it. Additionally, cholesterol aids digestion by forming bile salts and serves as a precursor for various essential hormones.
Understanding cholesterol's importance, our bodies produce it naturally in the liver. Our bodies can produce up to a gram of cholesterol daily if required. If we consume cholesterol through our diet, our body's inherent wisdom kicks in, reducing its cholesterol production, hence conserving energy.
A large egg contains less than one-fifth of a gram of cholesterol, located entirely in the yolk.
Additionally;
-Cholesterol is crucial for producing vitamin D, steroid hormones (including cortisol and s*x hormones), and bile acids.
-It's also vital for brain function, as the brain contains about 25% of the body's cholesterol.
Theoretically, consuming more than five large eggs daily could pose a problem, but our body's complex regulatory mechanisms can likely handle this influx.
It's also important to note that certain individuals may experience unusual difficulties in controlling cholesterol levels; hence, personalized medical advice is crucial.
Despite the earlier beliefs, there is no solid evidence to suggest that eating eggs directly leads to high blood cholesterol or heart attacks. There is no proof that reducing egg intake in a population improves overall health. There is no confirmed causal link between egg consumption and increased blood cholesterol. It's important to remember that individuals who tend to overeat might also include eggs in their diet, and these overeaters ๐ often exhibit high blood cholesterol levels.
To Elaborate;
The liver produces about 80% of the body's cholesterol. When dietary cholesterol intake increases, most healthy individuals compensate by reducing endogenous production and increasing excretion.
However, about 25% of the population are "hyper-responders" who experience a more significant increase in blood cholesterol in response to dietary cholesterol.
It's Important to Note:
- Genetic factors play a significant role in how individuals respond to dietary cholesterol.
- People with certain conditions (like familial hypercholesterolemia or diabetes) may need to be more cautious about egg consumption.
- The overall dietary pattern is more important than any single food. Eggs consumed as part of a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are likely to have different effects than eggs consumed as part of a diet high in saturated fats and processed foods.
Conclusion
While eggs were once vilified due to their cholesterol content, current evidence suggests that moderate egg consumption is safe for most people and can be part of a healthy diet. As always, individual factors should be considered, and personalized medical advice is crucial for those with specific health concerns.

What causes bad breath in diabetes?
-There are two main causes of bad breath in people with diabetes:
โฆ periodontal disease
โฆ high levels of ketones in the blood.
1. Periodontal diseases
-Periodontal diseases, also called gum diseases, include gingivitis, mild periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis.
-Here, bacteria attack the tissues and bone that support your teeth. Inflammation can affect metabolism and increase your blood sugar, which worsens diabetes.
-While diabetes can lead to periodontal diseases, these diseases can also create further problems for people with diabetes.
-Diabetes can damage blood vessels, which can reduce blood flow throughout your body, including your gums.
-If your gums and teeth arenโt receiving a proper supply of blood, they may become weak and more prone to infection. Diabetes may also raise glucose levels in your mouth, promoting bacteria growth, infection, and bad breath.
-When your blood sugars are high, it becomes hard for the body to fight infection, which makes it harder for the gums to heal.
-If someone with diabetes gets a periodontal disease, it may be more severe and take longer to heal than in a person without diabetes.
-Bad breath is a common sign of periodontal disease. Other signs include:
โฆ red or tender gums
โฆ bleeding gums
โฆ sensitive teeth
โฆ receding gums
2. Ketones
-When your body canโt make insulin, your cells donโt receive the glucose they need for fuel.
-To compensate, your body starts burning fat. Burning fat instead of sugar produces ketones, which build up in your blood and urine.
-Ketones can also be produced when youโre fasting or if youโre on a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet.
-High ketone levels often cause bad breath.
-When ketones rise to unsafe levels, youโre at risk of a dangerous condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Symptoms of DKA include:
โฆ a sweet and fruity odor on your breath
โฆ more frequent urination than normal
โฆ abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting
โฆ high blood glucose levels
โฆ shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
โฆ confusion
Managing bad breath from diabetes
-Along with neuropathy, cardiovascular disease, and others, periodontitis is a common complication of diabetes. You can, however, take steps to lessen their severity. Take control with these daily tips:
โฆ Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily.
โฆ Donโt forget to brush or scrape your tongue, a prime breeding place for foul-smelling bacteria.
Drink water and keep your mouth moist.
Keep your blood sugar levels in their target range.
Use sugar-free mints or gum to stimulate saliva.
Visit your dentist regularly and follow their treatment recommendations. Make sure the dentist knows you have diabetes.
โฆ Donโt smoke.
In conclusion,
Bad breath may be a sign of something more. If you have diabetes, itโs important to be aware of what your breath may be telling you. Your understanding may save you from advanced gum disease or the dangers of DKA.

The journey was started on May 2014 on Facebook and so far has more than 10,085 community members. We have diversified our social platforms by reaching those in Twitter and Whatsapp. The community is mainly run by two individuals who partner with other health professionals to give information to the people. The page gives selfless information and has created a lot of awareness which is visible from the feedback that we receive. DMRC has also helped some few people suffering from diabetes to get donors of free glucometers while others have been able to buy them at cheaper prices.
