Okay, mama-to-be, let’s talk about eggs! You’re probably thinking, “Eggs? Are they safe? Are they good for my little one?” Don’t worry, we’re going to dive into this egg-cellent topic and clear up any confusion.

You’re already a supermom-in-training, thinking about your diet, which is amazing! You’re eating for two, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your favorite foods.

Now, about those eggs… They’re like little powerhouses of nutrition! They’re packed with vitamins, minerals, and protein – all the good stuff your body and your growing baby need.

But, like any food, there are some things to keep in mind: raw eggs can sometimes carry some not-so-nice bacteria. So, the key is to cook them thoroughly to get rid of those bad guys.

Here’s the good news: you can enjoy your eggs in all sorts of ways, whether it’s a sunny-side-up breakfast, a fluffy omelet, a hard-boiled snack, or even scrambled into your favorite dinner. Just make sure they’re cooked through and you’re good to go!

Now, let’s get into why eggs are such a great choice for your pregnancy diet:

Brain Boost: Eggs are full of choline, a super-nutrient that helps your baby’s brain grow big and strong. Choline is essential for the brain’s development, memory, and learning. Think of it as giving your little one a head start on being a genius!

DHA Power: Eggs also have DHA, a special kind of omega-3 fatty acid that helps with brain development and cognitive function. DHA is crucial for the development of the baby’s eyes, brain, and nervous system. It’s like giving your baby a brainpower boost!

Vitamin D Delight: Eggs are a good source of vitamin D, which is important for your baby’s bones and immune system. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium, which is vital for strong bones and teeth. It also helps your baby’s immune system fight off infections. Think of it as giving your little one a dose of sunshine, even on cloudy days!

Protein Power: Eggs are full of protein, which is essential for your baby’s growth and development. Protein is the building block of cells, tissues, and organs. It’s also important for the development of muscles, bones, and skin. Think of it as giving your little one the building blocks for a strong and healthy body.

Cholesterol Control: Don’t be scared of the cholesterol in eggs! It’s actually a good kind of cholesterol that helps with cell building and brain function. Cholesterol is important for the production of hormones, vitamin D, and bile acids. Think of it as giving your baby a little bit of brainpower fuel!

Eye-Catching Nutrients: Eggs have lutein and zeaxanthin, which are good for your baby’s eyes. These antioxidants help protect the eyes from damage, promoting healthy vision. Think of it as giving your little one a clear view of the world!

That’s not all. Eggs are packed with other essential vitamins and minerals, like iodine, selenium, and iron. Iodine is important for thyroid function and brain development. Selenium is an antioxidant that protects cells from damage. Iron is crucial for carrying oxygen throughout the body. Think of it as giving your baby a healthy dose of everything they need to thrive!

So go ahead and enjoy those eggs! Just cook them thoroughly, and you’ll be giving your baby the best possible start in life. Happy eating!

Now that you know the benefits of eating eggs during pregnancy it’s time to stock up on top-quality eggs. Make eggs a healthy staple of your prenatal diet and enjoy farm-fresh, nutritionally dense eggs every day.

Order your high-quality, delicious eggs through the U-HAV Eggs online platform today.

Cracking Eggs Like a Pro: A Guide to Shell-Free Success

Cracking an egg seems simple enough, but a broken yolk or a shell-filled mess can quickly turn your culinary ambitions into a frustrating experience. Fear not, aspiring chefs! We've compiled the best techniques and tips to help you become an egg-cracking pro.

Methods for Cracking an Egg:

On the Countertop: This method is a favorite for its simplicity and effectiveness. Crack the egg on a flat countertop, avoiding raised surfaces that can push shell fragments into the egg. A firm tap, followed by a gentle separation of the halves, will yield a clean crack.
i. On the Side of the Bowl: This tried-and-true method is a good alternative to the countertop. Target the middle of the egg on the bowl's rim for a clean split. Be vigilant for any stray shell pieces that might find their way into your bowl.
ii. With a Knife: For a more controlled crack, use a butter knife or icing spatula to strike the egg across the middle with a quick flicking motion. This method minimizes the risk of smashing the egg.
iii. Hitting Two Eggs Together: This surprising technique allows you to crack only one egg by gently tapping two eggs together at their midpoints. This method is ideal for cracking two eggs at once, but be careful not to crack the second egg by hitting them too hard.
iv. One-Handed Cracking: This advanced technique requires practice but can significantly speed up your egg cracking. Grip the egg with your thumb, index, and middle fingers on one side, and your pinky and ring fingers on the other. Crack the uncovered section of the egg on a surface and pry it open with your fingers. With enough practice, you'll be a one-handed egg-cracking master in no time.
How to Crack an Egg Without Breaking the Yolk:

While there's no foolproof method to guarantee an unbroken yolk, gentle cracking on a flat surface and careful separation will minimize the risk. Avoid squeezing the egg halves too tightly, and smoothly insert your thumbs into the crack to release the yolk and whites.

The Best Way to Crack an Egg:

Ultimately, the best way to crack an egg is the method that works best for you. Experiment with different techniques and find the one that yields the most consistent results. Don't be afraid to get a little messy as you perfect your egg-cracking skills!

The Science Behind Egg Size: Unveiling the Factors That Influence Variation

We’ve seen you pick only the large eggs and leave the smaller ones every time you come to buy eggs from our farms. Some of you would sometimes complain (or give feedback) about how expensively we are pricing our then-small eggs.

Well, that’s no issue at all. All the same, have you ever wondered why egg sizes fluctuate over seasons?

It’s not just about preference, it’s about the natural rhythm of our hens and the world around them!

Egg sizes can vary over the seasons due to several factors related to the environment, the health and diet of the hens, and their natural biological rhythms. Here’s a breakdown:

Sunshine and Temperature: Just like us, hens are affected by the changing seasons. Longer days and warmer temperatures in spring and summer mean more sunlight and energy for our hens, leading to larger eggs. In winter, shorter days and colder temperatures can mean smaller eggs.

Hen Age and Laying Cycles: Younger hens are still getting the hang of laying, so their eggs might be smaller. As they mature, their eggs tend to get bigger. Plus, hens go through cycles of laying and molting, and those cycles can also affect egg size.

Diet and Nutrition: Our hens love to forage for tasty treats in the spring and summer, enjoying a diverse diet of grasses, insects, and other goodies. This abundance of nutrients can lead to larger eggs. In winter, when their foraging options are limited, their diet might be less diverse, which can affect egg size.

Stress and Environmental Changes: Even hens can feel the stress of changing seasons. Moving indoors for the winter or dealing with extreme weather can impact their egg size.

So, the next time you see a variety of egg sizes at our farm, remember that it’s a natural part of the cycle. Those smaller eggs are just as delicious and nutritious as the larger ones, and they represent the unique journey of each hen and the changing seasons. Give them a try, and you might just discover a new favorite!

Some of you believe larger eggs have a richer flavor, but there’s no scientific evidence to support this. The taste of an egg is primarily influenced by the hen’s diet and breed. Smaller eggs, while having a smaller yolk, are just as nutritious and delicious as larger eggs.

So the next time you see a range of egg sizes at our farm, remember that it’s a natural reflection of the seasons, the hens’ life cycles, and their unique journey. Enjoy the variety! Those smaller eggs, though smaller, are still packed with nutrients and flavor. I won’t be surprised if you still go for the bigger ones even after teaching you things. We are Kenyans, and we love big things.

You have probably seen bodybuilders eat raw eggs. One common belief among bodybuilders is that consuming raw eggs provides quicker and more efficient protein absorption than cooked eggs. How safe is it, though?

While raw eggs can be safe, it’s crucial to understand the risks and take precautions. All eggs, regardless of origin, carry a low risk of Salmonella contamination. The most important safety measure is to consume raw eggs immediately after preparation.

Cracking an egg introduces the risk of Salmonella from the shell transferring to the egg white. This risk is high if shell fragments fall into the egg or the yolk is separated using the shell halves.

At this moment, you want to question because you have been eating dishes that are raw eggs—homemade mayonnaise and aioli.

Don’t worry—you should be safe as long as proper precautions are taken. I mean, only small batches should be prepared, and sufficient vinegar or lemon juice must be added to achieve a pH of 4.2 or lower. These dishes should be consumed within a day of preparation and stored in the refrigerator.

For raw egg desserts like tiramisu and chocolate mousse, an egg separator instead of the shell halves is recommended. These desserts must be refrigerated immediately and consumed within a day.

Benefits and Disadvantages:

Eggs are nutrient-dense, packed with 13 vitamins and minerals, and contain high-quality protein. Due to their protein content, raw egg whites have been popular among athletes.

However, consuming raw eggs offers no significant advantages over cooked eggs. While raw eggs contain slightly more nutrients, cooked eggs are easier for the body to digest and absorb. Studies indicate that the body absorbs 90% of protein from cooked eggs compared to only 50% from raw eggs.

So, should I eat raw eggs?

That entirely rests on you, my dear reader. However, it is strongly advised that children, pregnant women, older people, and others with weak immune systems avoid raw eggs. But for anyone else, it comes down to understanding the risks and making your own decisions.

Why men should eat eggs

You don't know the much I have waited to have this conversation with you. Let's go!!

We love eggs- they have been a dietary staple since time immemorial and there’s good reason for their continued presence in our menus and meals. Not only do they offer culinary variety — hard-boiled eggs, omelets, deviled eggs, etc. — but they are also a source of protein, calcium, and several vitamins and nutrients.

But what about the guys? Have you ever wondered what eggs can do for them?

Well, you might be surprised to learn that eating eggs can actually increase testosterone hormone levels in men, thanks to their high amino acid content. So, what does that mean for the fellas?

Testosterone is the "manly" hormone, responsible for all sorts of masculine characteristics. It helps with everything from developing the p***s and te**es to deepening the voice during puberty and even contributes to the appearance of facial and p***c hair. Plus, it plays a role in muscle size and strength, bone growth, s*x drive, and s***m production.

But don't get too excited, boys. It's still recommended that you keep your egg intake to a maximum of two per day unless you want to risk gaining weight excessively or developing heart problems. So, go ahead and enjoy your daily egg - just don't go overboard!
