A father may not carry pregnancy for nine months, but he is always pregnant with family needs, dreams and visions of a better future.
A father may not know how labor pains feels like, but his pains are not physical, his pains are emotional, and he suffers mental injuries from time to time.
A father may not have breasts to breastfeed babies, yet everyone sucks from his unseen breasts.
A father may not experience monthly periods, but he bleeds from inside when he has no means to provide for his family, when he gets blames for not being like his fellow men, and when he is rarely appreciated for His daily struggles and push just to keep the family together.
May God strengthen all Father's!..... Once more

Today is the day
The day of the legend
The day of the African child

He is an African child,
Resilient,
Intelligent,
Observant,
Witty,

He struggles,
He climb hills,
He fights battles to win,
With no shoes his feet are pricked by thorns,
With no warm clothes he fight back pneumonia to win,
With little food he fights off pangs of hunger,

He is an African child
He knows the time by the sound of enthusiastic birds as they return to their nests.

Today is the day of the African child,
He doesn't know,
He has been away on the hill,
He was busy looking for the wild fruits,
He enjoyed the fruits and the berries before embarking on hunting the small rats,
He was sharpening his hunting skillls before graduating to hunting rabbits when he will be a bigger boy able to pull the string of a bow,

He will come home when the sun is almost submerged in the distant hills,

He knows there will be trouble at home,
He will be punished by his mother for not following the rules of staying at home like a small baby,
He knows the cane will graze his behind as usual and he may end up being denied his favorite cup of milk,
His young and brilliant mind gave him the solution,
It was a great idea,
Nothing will please his mother like to see him with a bunch of firewood,

The legend collected a few sticks to form a small bundle and off he went to meet the owner of the cane who is his own mother.

Today is the day of all legends,
Boys and girls,
Let's celebrate our resilient legends.
They are down and meek today,
They will rise up stronger tomorrow.
