On Thursday 31st May 2024, Constitution & Reform Education Consortium (CRECO) - Kenya partnered with Kabarak University School of Music and Media for an enriching mentorship program themed "Digital Media Literacy." This initiative was aimed at empowering Mass Communication students with essential skills in navigating the digital landscape effectively and responsibly.
During this mentorship, presenters probed into crucial topics such as Digital Democracy, Digital Security, and Fact-Checking. These discussions provided invaluable insights into how to engage in democratic processes online, protect personal information in an increasingly connected world, and discern credible information amidst the flood of digital content.
At Kabarak University School of Music and Media, we are proud to be part of this transformative journey, fostering a generation that is not only tech-savvy but also conscious of the ethical and practical implications of their digital interactions.
We are committed to building a digitally literate society poised for informed and secure online participation.

MENTORSHIP :
Taking place today at noon at the SMM amphitheatre, the Constitution and Reform Education Consortium(CRECO) will be in attendance to expound more on digital media intricacies with our students in what will be a delightful interaction.

Drama festival II:
The scent of success......like hot coffee in the morning......dandelions in the green fields........ breeze drifting on by.......nature's redolence before the onset of rains......sorry what were we talking about again? Right!

On a trip to the University of Embu for the National Drama Festival between the 6th - 16th April 2024, the SMM team left a mark with our mime, "lone survivor" scooping first position and our play, "A Cry for Freedom" securing second post. "Lone survivor" was selected for the festival's Gala.

To add cherry onto the cake we were awarded an extra trophy for our costumes!!

This was her acceptance speech at the 20th anniversary of "Earth Journalism Network (EJN)" as a recipient of the "Excellence in Biodiversity Reporting" award, 19th May 2024 at Palo alto, California.

Caroline Chebet, a second year student here at SMM, has set the bar for journalism across the board with her recent achievement by becoming a recipient of this prestigious award.

As the SMM family we take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate her for her stupendous work in making our globe a better place for the "tiny animals"

SMM CONFERENCE II:

Marking the summit of a two day conference, we were impacted positively and loaded with robust knowledge on matters to do with freedom of speech, how to cope with hate speech, online platforms and content creation to media personnel protection in accordance to the laws of the country as well gender related topics in a panelist Q&A session.

What an experience that was! Same time, same place next year!!!

Senior recitals:
On the final lap of their academia, our senior class of 2024 will be taking the stage to showcase their brilliance, virtuosity and technicality in music performance with an array of instruments displayed artistically in what we anticipate to be top notch music excellence.

Drama festival I:
The film and theatre students embarked on a three day festival from the 15-17th March 2024 at Laikipia University. The play, titled, "A cry for freedom" scooped first position securing our team a spot at the National Drama Festival to be held at the University of Embu from 10th April 2024

As Kabarak University School of Music and Media(SMM) family, we are proud of the team and the producers for their tireless efforts to secure the win. Congratulations and God's grace through and through.

To mark the ceremonial Cultural Week, Yesterday's African wear was decorated with so much colour, and we painted our canvas artistically.

School of Music and Media kabarak University will host a webinar based on the theme "Contemporizing Music Education for Relevance" on 14th March 2024 at 08:00 hrs(EAT)/06:00 hrs(WAT). Top scholars will delve further into insightful topics ranging from Music Production Technology to Views on Ethnic Music and it's place in the Contemporary Society as well as current trends in Film and Theatre Arts.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Today (14th February 2024), Kabarak University School of Music and Media uniquely marked Valentine’s Day with a captivating Love Recitals event. The day was filled with enchanting audiences and an evening of heartfelt melodies and soulful performances from the students and the staff of the school.
In the School amphitheatre, talented musicians, instrumentalists and vocalists shared their passion for music, weaving together tales of love, longing, and romance.
The performances appreciated the variety of the genres of Kenyan love songs while showcasing the prowess and talents of the students of the School.

We had the privilege of visiting Machakos County to celebrate the 20 years anniversary of Light Christian Centre. We got an opportunity, under the leadeship of our dean Prof. Mellitus N. Wanyama, to share what and especially School of Music and Media is all about. We did several performances that moved the crowds and cemented our presence.
During the two day visit, we were also privileged to join AIC Bomani in their Sunday Services where we also got to share with them why Kabarak University is the University of now and the future. We also got to stage unforgettable performances.
