Highlights of FMSC New Year Celebrations:

The Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with vibrant events organized by the student associations of two departments.

The Association of Public Administration hosted "Sooryabhishekaya'24" on April 17th at the Ehela Wala Premises. The event commenced with the traditional boiling of milk and opening of the "Aurudu Kevili Table". Students participated in traditional games ("Aurudu Kreeda"), showcasing their talents and receiving gifts for their victories. The celebration concluded with a lively DJ Night, marking a successful gathering.

Department of Business Economics also held the "BIZCON New Year" on April 18th at the Lower University Ground. Led by Dr. Janaka Fernando, the event embraced Sinhala Hindu traditions and the rejuvenation of nature, symbolizing new beginnings. Activities aligned with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, promoting sustainability in education, economic growth, urban development, and climate action. The event fostered a sense of community and responsibility towards a sustainable future.

As FMSC, we extend our warmest wishes for a prosperous and harmonious New Year. We are proud of how these celebrations have woven together our rich cultural heritage and commitment to sustainability.

The Department of Estate Management and Valuation of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce is delighted to announce the signing of the Memorandum of Corporation between the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the Assessors and Registered Valuers Foundation (AaRVF), India.

AaRVF is a registered Valuers Organisation (RVO) recognized by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI). This collaboration aims to drive research and training initiatives in the dynamic realms of real estate and valuation. It offers valuable opportunities for undergraduates and postgraduate students, potentially including cross-country workshops.

The Department of Business Administration of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce embarked on a significant collaboration by formalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Acuity Knowledge Partners Private Limited. The core objectives underpinning this MOU includes the enhancement of synergies between academia and industry, the fostering of knowledge sharing, and the provision of practical industrial exposure to fourth-year undergraduates enrolled within the Department.

The ceremonial signing of the MOU took place on the 26th of March 2024, hosted within the university premises. This momentous event garnered the esteemed presence of Senior Professor Pathmalal M. Manage, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Mr. Jehan Jayaretnam, Senior Director, Sri Lanka Country Head and Global Head of Compliance of Acuity Knowledge Partners and Mr. Nuwan Jayawardana, Director of Acuity Knowledge Partners.

Through this collaborative endeavour, academia and industry come together to enhance educational experiences and provide valuable practical insights, further enriching the academic journey of the university’s aspiring graduates.

This team will play a crucial role in developing and implementing engaging multimedia content for the faculty’s website, and social media presence ultimately enhancing the faculty's online presence and stakeholder engagement.

Applicant Qualifications:
• Enrolled as a student in an internal degree program offered by the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce.
• Possess a keen interest and demonstrable skills in multimedia content creation (graphic design, video editing etc.), web design, or related fields.
• Exhibit enthusiasm, creativity, and a collaborative work ethic.

Volunteer Commitment:
• The volunteer position is for a one-year term, with the possibility of renewal based on the volunteer's availability and performance.

The Research Centre of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, in collaboration with FMSC's Staff Development Program, hosted a workshop on "Network Analysis for Research: Data Visualization and Exploration using Gephi" on March 27th!

Over 50 participants gained valuable insights from Mr. Dilan Rathnayake, a Senior Lecturer of the Department of Marketing Management, FMSC who shed light on the power of Gephi, an open-source software for network analysis.

Through interactive sessions, attendees learned how to dissect complex networks, especially social networks, and navigate the world of Big Data.
