Then there was more than 1:

A business skill we learned in 2023 is to not only recognize the challenges, but to address them.
Some clients are restricted by location and can only do online sessions.

With our clientele fast growing, my colleague in mental health heeded our call and he has decided to join us at Leseli Mental & Behavioral Health to provide online sessions ONLY.

We present Lepokola (Lepe) Seetane, MS.
🌼He is completing his clinical work in Louisville Kentucky 🇺🇸, towards fulfillment of his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health.

🌸He has worked in multiple mental & behavioral consultant roles in Lesotho and America, including but not limited to Spalding Counseling & Psychological Services, Shawnee Christian Clinic Behavioral Health Services, etc.

🌻He also possesses a Master of Science Communications & Digital Media from Berllamine University, Louisville Kentucky. I foresee future HealthTech projects led by him.

🪻He acquired a BA double major in Political Science & African Studies from Northwestern University, Chicago Illinois 🇺🇸.

Professional Affiliations:
American Counseling Association (ACA)
National Certified Counselor Certification (NCCC)
Kentucky Counseling Association (KCA)

Basotho wanted quality mental healthcare, we listened…we are listening.

All things mental health leadership 🌍:

I became a member of AGMHI in 2022. In 2023, I became part of two working groups that are aimed at advancing mental health care in Africa and the diaspora through research, training & education, clinical care delivery, and advocacy & policy.

1. Training and Education WG-To develop a trauma-focused module that is primarily directed toward mental health providers.

2. Advocacy & Policy WG-We are building an advocacy database for & towards mental health delivery in Africa.

This is a big global community with providers & think tanks from different countries 🌎🌍.

🌻In 2024, I appeal to Bahlabolli ba Lesotho to subscribe to reputable bodies/associations. Ones where there are funding opportunities, research collaborations, conferences, professional support & development, mentorship programs, and and!

🌼I will continue flying Lesotho 🇱🇸 flag as high as I have lifted it. What do you 🫵🏾 plan to do differently this year?

My wish is for Basotho to help me-help the Small ones:

NoT every child that displays behavioral issues is faced/living with Autism 🙅🏾‍♀️. Some kids can easily be having ADD, ADHD (the two are slightly different), ODD, Intellectual developmental disorder, Communication disorders, etc. There are vast assessment batteries to assess for these disorders.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is diagnosed when the characteristics deficits of social communication are accompanied by excessively repetitive behaviors, restricted interests, and insistence on sameness-DSM 5tr. This info will be collected from parents, caregivers & teachers alike.

In order to have a broader understanding of child’s functioning, we might ask the child’s teacher to fill-out a teacher rating form for us. This is an observation of child’s functioning at school. Be mindful that children can behave differently in various environments.

⁉️Haebe behavior ba ngoana bo bontša ana le bothata, help guide us na ‘in which areas & how’ Bo-teacher also spend a lot of time le batho bana ba banyane akere?

From a psychological assessments standpoint, I am dying in silence 🙇🏾‍♀️ because teachers 🇱🇸 are failing to meet us halfway. They decline filling out Teacher-Rating forms but are the ones to highlight that ngoana is problematic.

KE KOPA RE SEBETSENG MMOHO TO UPHOLD CHILDREN’s BEHAVIORAL HEALTH 🙏🏾. Batsoali, sometimes ngoana o stoutu njee, other times ese ele above botoutu.

Pondering on Youth mental health 🇱🇸:

I was in a taxi from Roma the other day and abuti a mholo about 11yrs was seated in front of me.
Nnake he slept the whole trip. It seemed the taxi conductor knows him because he woke him up when his stop came up.

I thought to myself. The young folks are tired 🥱. Hear me out-
🍃They wake up earlier than their parents
🍂Their school buses leave kabo 6:00AM
🌼They arrive home kabo 5:00PM, not counting the traffic jams in Maseru.
🌸They get out their uniforms, only to prioritize homework. By the time they are done, its waaayyy past li Uzalo.
Then they literally die 🛌. To say they sleep is an understatement.

Mornings are intolerable malapeng mona we are all on a time bound. Some days oka utloa eka oka lla because waauuu 🥺.

😔What is to become of adolescents who clock more hours out there than their parents?

Please please talk to the younglings about their stresses le tlohelle to invalidate them with ‘Bonyane oena o tsamaea ka koloi, nna nne ke tšela Lekoantlana ka maoto keea Baker 😏’
Batsoali ipheng nako, talk to your kids. When they sleep until bo 10:00AM during weekends, just let them. They need the rest hleng!

Reflections of ngoanana e mona oa ntho tsa mental health:

This is not a story about humble beginnings, no no, told that one too many times already. It is a story about a young woman in business, in academia, in non-profits that has realized:-

🥀We will always have regrets, choose yours wisely.

🎋We think we have all the time, the one thing we do not have is time.

🌹No one has it figured out. Listen to podcasts, political leaders are at loggerheads with the people they serve, entrepreneurs loose & they win, doctors & nurses are emotionally exhausted, performing artists are drained, teachers are underpaid…the list goes on. Just start!

💐We wait for the perfect time to make the jump. If it’s a jump, naturally it falls outside the parameters of perfect. Unless you are Simone Biles possessing world class abilities to make a perfect landing.

🌻The world of business is complex. We enter it on a gut feeling and hunch that it will generate us our first $million. You cannot really get good at it from the spectators stand. Dive in there and paddle like your life depends on it.

🇱🇸 I have a favor to ask you, show up for yourself. Normalize taking care of your mental health. Seek help because it is available!

🥳 Ngoana Qoaling has a mental health private practice. Trust me, this is a big deal. Baby steps 👀

Why Did I get married 🙇🏾‍♀️?

Here is what I wish people knew. What we know about marriage is what has been communicated to us, it is what we grew up watching in our lived environments.

From the very beginning, we emulate what is marriage and family ‘Mantloaneng. How others apply themselves as Mme kapa Ntate largely has to do with lived experiences and upbringing. This is a good thing.

We enter marriage with sureness that we are gonna remain in it forever. Ngoana motle, Sureness Is A Trap 🪤. Sureness undermines the difficult conversations we ought to have prior to signing the contract that is the institution of marriage.

A couple who made this realization, wrote about it highlighting the following:
#1: Can you communicate
#2: Does pride get in the way
#3: Can you trust each other
#4: How do you view money
#5: Do you know their family
#6: What about S*x and Purity, etc.

Love does not guarantee a healthy long-lasting marriage. It is love and many other things. Rate tsa divorce li phahame Lesotho 💯. Unlike batsoali ba rona who modelled our views of marriage, we are a self-aware generation. We know what we can and cannot do! If it doesn’t meet our expectation of, re thulana ka lihlooho.
Which is where couples and marriage counseling comes in. Talking about these intentional, difficult & vulnerable conversations with the help of a skillful professional.

We are Leseli Mental & Behavioral Health. Find us at Old Europa Yasmin Court (Opposite Peri-Peri). Call us at +266 6230 7173‬ to schedule your appointment.

We DO NOT impose our views of marriage or relationships on you. What we operate on is the premise that;
Falling inlove is easy-Getting married is beautiful and easy-Staying married can be hard.

Tlohong tlhabollong leske nne lare no stranger can solve my problems 🤦🏾‍♀️!

Mohoma temeng 🇺🇸🇱🇸:

Two days that are central to my work, Indigenous People’s Day and World Mental Health Day. Both commemorated on October 9 & 10th respectively.

I am a Mosotho (African identity). My people have their own ways of healing.
🌼When it pertains to mental illnesses, they tend to present themselves to traditional healers (bo Nkhekhe, bo Makherenkhoa, nabo Gogo & Gobela).

🌸They present to the spiritual healers, they exercise their own rituals of cleansing the spirit so that they maintain peace.

🌺They approach priests and religious leaders, in their many capacities. To pray away the pain of not being in alignment with their dreams, if you will.

⛔️For a long time, due to colonization, ours as ways have been labelled dark, bad-spirited, shamanism, witch-doctors, and and! Google them and truly reflect on these definitions.

🇱🇸Basotho ba haeso, it took me living in another continent to realize that Basotho are diverse. We believe differently, we heal differently. But most importantly, we have an honest duty to teach & uplift our ways of being. Me and my colleagues secured funding to teach/and be taught in effort to scale up mental health in our country.

📖 We said in our grant application documents, there is healing in heritage. We said every country has its way of being. Allow every person to tell you their story (read cultural sensitivity).

🌻We will be bringing back cognizance & our way of being through a community-engagement training project. We will tour all 10 districts for 12months educating/being educated on issues pertinent to mental health. One of my Professors called this learning model Sentipensante Pedagogy.

‼️We will provide a local number where traditional healers, spritual healers, religious healers, clinicians (counselors, psychologists, nurses, therapists, psych nurses) can register their participation.

📷On this day, share in our ululating👏🏾, please share this bit of good news for our country 🇱🇸. We are fully funded by U.S. Embassy Maseru of U.S. Department of State 🇺🇸.

Can someone with bipolar disorder be OK without medication?

Bipolar disorder is a lifelong, progressive mental health condition, which means that it requires long-term treatment. The symptoms won’t go away on their own — and these symptoms can negatively impact the person’s health, safety, and quality of life.

That’s why some combination of medication, psychotherapy, and lifestyle modification is often part of treatment — though your ❗️bipolar disorder treatment plan is specific to what kind of bipolar disorder you have and your symptoms.❗️
Cited from https://psychcentral.com/bipolar/unmedicated-bipolar -is-bipolar-disorder.

Bahlabolli ba haeso, invest in ho lula le ikhopotsa about these mental disorders. Familiarize yourselves with current research, read books, keep it real with the clients you work with. Be mindful of S*x-and Gender-Related Diagnostic Issues ‘Women with Bipolar I or II Disorder are more likely to experience depressive symptoms than are men’-DSM 5-tr

⚠️ I am someone that commits the time to reminding myself the nitty-gritties of the work that we do. I attended a last night to remind myself of possible diagnosis for individuals living with bipolar spectrum disorders.

Fun facts about Mental health lady 🇺🇸🇱🇸:
🌱She studied for her Undergraduate degree at the National University of Lesotho securing BA Pastoral Care and Counseling.

🍀During her work in NGO(s) for HIV programs as a professional counselor, she studied Global Health Delivery earning her a certificate from Harvard.

☘️Ka selemo sa 2018 she embarked on a journey to secure a graduate degree. It was a tiresome journey where through the US Embassy Maseru she was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship in 2020.

🍃She was placed at Western Michigan University where she resumed her studies in Fall of 2020.

🎋In Fall of 2022, she successfully completed the requirements of her degree & walked the stage and was conferred her MA Counseling Psychology.

🌿During her demanding academic schedule she was also undertaking professional development training with University of Washington [Seattle]. She earned three certificates during various semesters namely Policy Development and Advocacy for Global Health (2021), Leadership and Management in Health (2022) and Fundamentals in Implementation Science (2022).

🌱Something rare for African scholars happened with this promising scholar, due to her grit and work ethic, she was offered a job to continue working after completion of her degree. She earned her TMLP License as a Psychotherapist in the State of Michigan. You wonder how this is possible on a foreign student Visa? It is possible through programs called CPT/OPT/PDAT (kindly google them).

🍃During her PhD proposals to become a Professor of African Psychology she noticed that she still needs to do mental health work in Africa while fulfilling her home residency post her studies.

🌿She is a member of American Psychological Association, Michigan Psychological Association, The African Global Mental Health Institute, to name a few.

🪴She formally founded a company in Lesotho called Leseli Mental and Behavioral Health PTY (Ltd), where she and her partners offer Mental Health solutions for companies, institutions, etc.

🎋Recently, this think tank landed in her homecountry where she will be working on a US 🇺🇸 funded nation-wide community engagement program for mental health in Lesotho 🇱🇸. She will be undertaking research on indigenous and culturally sensitive mental health approaches for Lesotho. Concurrently, she will be consulting for clients seeking psychotherapy and continuing raising mental health awareness via her HealthMatters column with ThePost Newspaper.

🎋She is currently learning French because she aspires to work for WHO, UN organizations or Africa CDC where French is one of the official languages.

💚She is Makamohelo Malimabe. She is in Pursuit of Equitable Mental Health Services for underserved populations.
