La Salle Centre

The center started with two classes of basic and higher levels designed in a two-rooms apartment. The Sub-District of Myanmar and the De La Salle Brothers, administered the newly opened Center. As the center continued to function at its unsurpassed service to youth, the demand for a wider setting of education service gradually became a challenge. Hence, the impressive performance in the inculcation of Christian values and education to the poor and the students during the first year of its operation attracted more residents to enroll their sons and daughter in the following year. Numerous students, enthusiastic in spreading Christian education among the economically deprived families, gave their fraternal support.

In respond to the growing number of students; the Brothers, with the help of benefactors moved to the present location in 2007.

VISION STATEMENT

Inspired by the charism of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the La Salle Centre Yangon specializes in, and responds to the human and spiritual needs of persons, especially the youth, with particular focus on the underprivileged.

OUR MISSION

La Salle Centre is a Catholic co-educational general vocation center, that provides a learning process for youth, teachers that is person-centered, integrated and holistic.

Animated by the Lasallian Charism “to provide a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor”, Lasallian Center dedicates itself to:

1. The formation of a dynamic Christian and Non-Christian community composed of students, faculty, staff, and La Salle Brothers.

2. The total development of the students by:

a. Promoting equality of educational opportunities to the youth regardless of socio-economic status, religion, s*x and academic background while upholding its Catholic identity.

b. Providing excellent education that will prepare students for professional work.

c. Providing an educational service that emphasizes human development for personal commitment, responsibility, social harmony and the pursuit of justice.

3. The contribution to the achievement of national development goals by moulding God-loving, dedicated, disciplined, reliable, creative, productive and nationalistic youth.

4. Support community-related and Church sponsored cultural, educational, sports and religious activities by active participation and by making its resources available to interest groups.

5. Through our long tradition of holistic education working with our partners of man different faiths, we bring to our programmes, values of openness, respect of others and commitment to process.

By committing itself to these goals, Lasallians hopes to give witness to St. John Baptist De La Salle’s vision of Christian education among members of the more deprived economic sectors of Myanmar society.
