Our representatives, Nuno Sardinha da Mata, Sijie (Jessie) Lin, and Gonçalo Figueiredo 斐彥德 were particularly interested in the discussions at Parallel Forum 6. This panel focused on the legal and dispute-resolution issues that the international infrastructure project may carry and potential solutions for them.

Following the conference, we were delighted to welcome the Vice Chairman of China International Contractors Association, Mr. Xin Xiuming, to C&C's office and have the opportunity to connect further.

Senior partner Zhao Lu, jurist Domingos Ng and IPSOL partner Ema Rocha attended the 2024 International Trademark Association (INTA) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, United States.

Our attendees were thrilled to participate in another edition of the world-renowned trademark event in representation of C&C and IPSOL, a sister company dedicated exclusively to intellectual property matters. They took the opportunity to chat with industry peers about current trends and best practices while forging new connections.

In commemoration of Lawyers Day ("Dia do Advogado"), senior partner Nuno Sardinha da Mata presented his views on the practice of law in Macau and its alterations through time.

He explored the differences between the status of lawyers before and after the establishment of the Lawyers Association of Macau (AAM) and the future implications within this profession as a result of the return of Macau to the motherland.

Later that day, the C&C team enjoyed the annual dinner organised by AAM to mark the occasion alongside colleagues from across the industry.

Director and general manager Rui Pedro Cunha joined Ms Loh Seow Yuen and Mr José Carlos Matias at the Rui Cunha Foundation to discuss Corporate Philanthropy and describe how each of them have developed it within their respective companies.

He explained how C&C Lawyers has engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility, which organisations count on our support, and mentioned some of the initiatives implemented throughout the years.

In case you didn't know: In 2017, C&C set up a breastfeeding room on the 5th floor to provide women a private space for this purpose. The room is open to the community and all mothers who are breastfeeding are welcome to use it.

On the night many European countries had the privilege of witnessing them before their eyes, we were delighted to attend MECC's "Nordic Lights" themed gala dinner and reconnect with clients, partners and friends.

C&C was proud to sponsor the Macau European Chamber of Commerce and support Rui Pedro Cunha, our general manager and president of the Chamber, in this acclaimed event.

Congratulations to all the EuroExcellence Award winners and the European Chamber for an enjoyable evening.

As is customary, C&C Lawyers and Notaries visited this year's National Security Education Exhibition held at the former Macau Forum.

The exhibition showed the security advances that have been made thus far and included a timely segment about cybersecurity and its implications on National Security.

Senior associate lawyer Mariana Esteves was pleased to represent C&C Lawyers at ICCA 2024 Hong Kong. The International Council for Commercial Arbitration conference was an excellent opportunity to meet colleagues practising in various jurisdictions and learn from field experts.

Jessie Lin and Gonçalo Figueiredo were cordially invited to attend the Launch Ceremony of Yinghe (Win Global) and the 2024 Forum on Foreign-related Legal Services. The event, which was held in the blooming city of Shenzhen, brought together lawyers, industry leaders, and esteemed members of academia to discuss new opportunities for legal services and business development between China and the rest of the world.

During the roundtable discussions, Jessie and Gonçalo had the opportunity to highlight the strong connection between Macau and Portugal and expand on the link between Macau and China, alluding to optimistic business prospects and relevant legal considerations.

We are proud to have participated in this prestigious event, exchanging ideas and knowledge with legal professionals from multiple Asian countries. It was an excellent opportunity to showcase our commitment to international legal cooperation and our role in contributing to the growth of the Greater Bay Area, emphasising the role of Macau as a bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

C&C Consultant Jessie Lin wrote a piece for local newspaper Plataforma Media analysing the consequences of the opening and closure of the First and Second Lines of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macau Deep Cooperation Zone, particularly on the transportation of goods between the three regions.

In the article, Jessie provides a complete overview of the customs procedures, explains the difference between tax-free and bonded goods and specifies which entities are subject to or exempt from import and export duties.

Yesterday, the 8th of November, C&C’s Senior Associate Lawyer António Isóo de Azeredo attended the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCILC) 45th-anniversary at Casino Estoril in Portugal.

The gala was an excellent occasion to strengthen the relationships between C&C and industry representatives, as well as celebrate the resumption of events that foster Sino-Portuguese ties.

C&C’s Senior Partner Álvaro Rodrigues, acting as the representative of the Macau Lawyers Association, and Partner João Marques attended the 2nd FALP Conference (Portuguese Speaking Lawyers Federation) on the 6th and 7th of November at the Portuguese Catholic University in Lisbon.

This year’s topic was centred around “AI in 21st Century Law”, with speeches and discussions between orators from Brazil, Africa, Europe, and Macau regarding the repercussions of artificial intelligence within the profession.

On behalf of C&C, we would like to demonstrate our appreciation to all speakers for sharing their knowledge and broad perspectives on a matter that will undoubtedly alter the future of law practice.

On Friday the 3rd of November, C&C’s Founding Partner Rui Cunha, on behalf of SJM, alongside Director and General Manager Rui Pedro Cunha, attended the 16th “Asian Gaming Power 50” black tie gala dinner.

The event was an opportunity to recognise the fifty most influential people within the field, as well as a chance to connect with industry leaders, colleagues, and esteemed guests.

We extend our congratulations to both Inside Asian Gaming for an enjoyable evening and to all who earned their place in this year’s Power 50 list.

The final phase of the 3rd edition of the “929 Challenge”, which counts with C&C as one of its sponsors, took place on the 28th of October with participants from Macau, China and Portuguese speaking countries.

The competition aims to showcase innovative ideas developed by startups and university teams in the fields of life sciences and technology to potential investors. C&C’s Director and General Manager Rui Pedro Cunha took part in the event as a member of the jury, helping decide this year’s competition winners.

Congratulations to Glooma, Bedev and Fykia for the podium in the start-up category, and to Guangdong University of Science and Technology, the University of Macau and Guangdong Polythecnic Normal University for their victory in the university category.

C&C wishes all participants the best of luck in their pursuit of developing new companies from original concepts and ideas.

Supported by the Rui Cunha Foundation, the “Thirteenth International Conference on the Legal Reforms of Macau in the Global Context” made its comeback on Thursday, October 26th, after being suspended since 2019. This year’s theme was “Four Years Later: Questions and Answers During and Beyond the Covid-19 Pandemic”.
As one of the key speakers, C&C’s founding partner Rui Cunha delivered a speech on "How Legal Systems Reacted" during the pandemic, within the Macanese context.

Last Friday, October 20th, C&C Lawyers attended a cocktail event under the theme “Blue Hub: Unleashing Opportunities for Blue Economies in the Era of Sustainability”. The business matchmaking session was an opportunity to discuss the prospects of cooperation between Mainland China, Portugal and Macau in the fields pertaining to Blue Economy.
