As soft tissue sarcomas are not painful, it is common that it is left to grow to significant size before the patient comes for medical attention.
Larger lesions tend to have poorer outcome both in term of survival as well as functional. Thus, it is of utmost importance to get any growing lump on your body checked.
Ask yourself 3 important questions and if the answer is yes, get it checked by a sarcoma surgeon.
1. Is it progressively growing?
2. Is it larger than 5 cm?
3. Is it painless?

Distal femur osteosarcoma, wide resection with endoprosthesis reconstruction. Its good to see patient is functionally back to enjoying life.

You know the unit is growing when you have 4 new bone sarcomas within 2 weeks.

Distal radius GCTB. Wide resection with ulna translocation and wrist joint fusion with plating. Excellent procedure thst gives good upper limb function.

Proximal humerus tumour with intact deltoid and axillary nerve. First ever proximal humerus endoprosthesis and reverse shoulder replacement in the country.
Feeling blessed to be able to give the patient a stable and good range of movement which is not possible with conventional proximal humerus endoprosthesis.

Radiosynovectomy is an excellent treatment for various non infective inflammatory synovitis, ie PVNS and rheumatoid arthritis. Penang GH has one of the highest number of radiosynovectomy in Malaysia. Most of our patients are treated with open surgical synovectomy followed by Yittrium radiosynovectomy.

In conjunction with July being Sarcoma awareness month, with pleasure we would like to call all sarcoma patients and sarcoma supporter to join us for the walk.

Posterior thigh malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour. Wide resectiin with sciatic nerve disection and treatment was done to preserve leg function without compromising margins.

Proximal tibia giant cell tumour with pathological fracture in a person above 50 years of age. Wide resection with endoprosthesis reconstruction and medial gastrocnemius flap gives good functional outcome. These are rare indication where joint salvage with the help of denosumab is not possible.

Left hand 1st web space synovial sarcoma. Sometimes the tumour is very large that we need to amputate part of the limb to get tumour clearance. 3 years after surgery. Patient is disease free and works as a baker with very little disability.

Diagnosis: Squmous cell carcinoma of lateral knee with inguinal node metastasis.
Treatment:
1st stage. Wide excision with VAC dressing and inguinal lymph node clearance
2nd stage. Split skin grafting

Ewing sarcoma is a rare entity. This is a case of radius Ewing treated with chemotherapy followed by resection and reconstruction using vascularised free fibula graft harvested from the patients leg. Surgery done by a team of orthopaedic oncology and plastic surgeon took almost 8 hours.
Entire treatment takes almost a year which includes chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery managed by a dedicated MDT team.
