Course Review - Communication (USM) 📣

Overall Experience:
Dealing with various types of "epic" teachers will be the part of my university experience that I will remember the most. Despite this, I am glad because I have learnt something helpful that will benefit me for the rest of my life, such as a better level of media literacy and the ability to look at situations from several perspectives.

Pros:
Provide students with three major options and a strong emphasis on theory.

Cons:
Course outline was a little out of date, there was a lack of skill teaching and practical training, and students were not given enough information about the exchange programme.

Advice for Future Students:
Always take the initiative to learn new skills and create your portfolio on your own initiative, rather than waiting for the professor to spoon feed you.

TESOL Student Experience ✨

🍎 Course Content:
Microteaching, Pedagogy, English linguistics & literature, Teaching Practical, Minor in multimedia

📚 Overall Experience:
Enjoyable and interesting. It may be hard sometimes since English is a broad subject, but overall in terms of workload and type of works are still acceptable. The course was a little out of expectation, since I did not know that we had an acting and theater project for one of our subjects so it’s definitely a brand new thing for me. May be stressful sometimes with the packed schedule but that’s university life for u lol. Overall, education quality is good and we truly get to know more on the education system in our country and the various ways to teach English, which is now mostly motivated by IT related platforms. Not only a way to improve your English, but also helps you become an all package teacher that fulfills the need of language, teaching skills, creativity, leadership and talent.

✅ Pros:
-Great way to improve your English.
-Wide career opportunities since English teachers are high in demand.
-Minor in multimedia makes yiur career choices even more broad until the IT field.
-High employment rate.
-Enhance your creativity in how to conduct a fun and effective classroom.

⭕️ Cons:
-Minor is fixed and cannot be changed.
-Most sems are packed with units, sometimes even reaching 20+ units.
-Some may find some of the work of syllabus unnecessary as future teachers such as singing and acting.

💬 Advice for future students:
Research properly on the course before you enroll, if you are interested in English only and not teaching this may not be it for you. If you have a passion for language and teaching, this course welcomes you. It is definitely a course that is full of surprises.
