Why do people pay for piano lessons?

The answer is….they don’t pay for piano lessons. They pay for so much more.

- They pay for their child to learn what it takes to commit to something meaningful;

- They pay so that their child can learn the magic of creation, of forming something beautiful using their hands;

- They pay so that their child recognises the power of discipline, of working at something consistently, at least five days per week, honing their skills and building their fluency;

- They pay so that their child understands not to quit when the novelty has worn off and the work must set in;

- They pay so their child learns that they must still put in the work, even when tired and grumpy, not just giving up and spending hours on TikTok;

- They pay so that they can learn the joy of creating music with others: listening intently, and learning to chop, change and compromise;

- They pay so that they realise that it’s not just “enjoying themselves” but working meticulously on small details;

- They pay so that they DO enjoy themselves;

- They pay so that their child creates neural pathways that impact every single area of the curriculum;

- They pay so that their child develops the most incredible fine motor skills;

- They pay so that their child sees that art can be transcendent, and can accompany us through our darkest times;

- They pay because music puts us in touch with something that can’t be otherwise expressed.

大家在看大提琴演奏或是自己拉大提琴的時候,有沒有想過為什麼提琴和地板中間要有一個細細長長的東西?

那個叫做尾針 (Endpin)的零件對現在的大提琴或低音提琴來說可能是理所當然的標配,不但可以支撐重量,和止滑墊發揮combo效果固定住提琴防止演奏時不穩定或發生滑落意外,尾針也能透過和地板的接觸傳導樂器的聲響達到增幅的效果。

這樣看來尾針是很棒的設計。但就和世界上所有帶給人們便利的發明一樣,都是需要時間演進加上市場需求或許還有資本主義,才能真正融入在應用裡。

古早年代,如果要演奏大型的提琴,如果是拿在手上像小提琴一樣演奏,你覺得不痠我看得都覺得累 (但真的有一種拿在胸前演奏的大提琴叫Cello da Spalla就是了)。

所以要演奏的話,坐著把樂器放在腿上是最適合不過了。

但要是樂器非常大呢?

除非像低音提琴那種大小,不然要直接把放在地上演奏感覺還是有點憋扭,而且直接把樂器放在地上心裡可能會不捨。於是音樂家們為了人體工學,也或許想要愛護所費不貲的樂器,就想到用腿夾住提琴的方法來演奏。

有研究過提琴的人可能知道,中提琴在以前不像現在那麼邊緣,甚至還分成好幾種,其中一種夾在腿上的就叫做Viola da Gamba。但是直接翻譯成「腿提琴」又不太好聽,所以我們比較熟悉中文譯名叫做「維奧爾琴」。

維奧爾琴可以想像成是大提琴的親戚,雖然現在比較少看到,但在當年是文藝復興和巴洛克時期的重要樂器。

而在歷史和市場原因之下,維奧爾琴漸漸被大提琴和低音提琴取代,不過這時候的人們還是習慣把大提琴夾在腿上演奏。

一直到18世紀,由影響樂界近400年的史特拉第瓦里家族製作出了標準化大小的大提琴,大家除了不再掏出樂器比大小,對大提琴的推廣與技術也有十足的進步。

隨著音樂市場的成長,演奏的場地越來越大,提琴也需要增加體積來增加音量,外加毫無人性的技巧也突飛猛進,大提琴家們似乎發現把琴夾在腿上會導致演奏時某種程度的窒礙難行,這樣就沒辦法發揮出100%的技巧,也就得不到100%的掌聲和100%的報酬。

而且啦,雖然一把大提琴也不是很重,可是整場音樂會下來時間也蠻久的,以前的音樂家們應該也沒練深蹲,腿應該蠻痠的就是。

於是大提琴家們就想辦法固定住大提琴。有些人會在底下放個木塊,有些人則是直接放在腳上「饋咖」,但都不如在琴底下放個小柱子來得穩定。

也因此一試成主顧,大家都愛小柱子都不想換柱。使用尾柱,或是叫做尾針endpin的大提琴家就越來越多,後來也在19世紀中葉普及。

尾針的發明不但造福了大提琴的發展,女性們也不用再對用腿夾住樂器使得男性們有些許遐想而產生芥蒂,這也打開了女性學習大提琴的市場。

現在的資料來看很難說是哪個人發明了尾針,但就像發現粉圓加到奶茶裡,小小的舉動卻改變了飲料界,還成為不可或缺的標配。

近日Line 社群裡群友聊到一天練多久琴,以及學幾樣樂器比較好?該專精一樣,還是學兩樣或三樣?

問不同人會給你不同答案,因為表面的狀態都不是重點。

🔸【一天練多久琴】

一般正常練琴人的「正常進度」來說,一小時是標準,兒童每天 50 - 80分鐘是正常範圍,成人50-90分鐘。

(正常進度的定義:按部就班正常走,不特別積極,也不過於懶惰),

*如果進入自己錄影修正的階段,不在此限。
*我們這裡的討論都在「鋼琴」,不同樂器有不同的適合時長。

音樂系主修生正常來說,一天 3小時是正常範圍,開獨奏會之前,一天五六小時是正常,或者練好練滿。

若是在改手、校正彈法的學生,一定要練少,甚至暫時不要練,上課才是重點,因為狂練亂練只是增加錯誤記憶,老師改都改不完。

若功課很少,曲子明明每首都很短,卻花了過久時間練習,表示效率太差,練習過程有問題,要注意的重點不是「努力就好、勤能補拙」,而是「學會正確的練法」,否則未來曲子很長時怎麼辦呢?

記得「鋼琴老師沒告訴你的24件事」有提醒大家,「努力」是努力找到對的方法,「努力心安」對心情暫有幫助,但對事情的進展沒有幫助。愚公不能移山,徒法難以煉鋼。

所以,練多久請跟自己的老師討論,練多久跟曲量、練習重點都有關係,老師最清楚你的狀態,也有義務了解並幫你抓出練琴漏洞。

🔸【專心學一樣樂器還是學兩三樣樂器】

學幾樣樂器還是要看學得如何、有沒有遇到好老師,有沒有進入「學習」狀態,學習是否質精。

如果兩樣樂器都遇到好老師,學習的質「精」,方法的利用可以相互加乘,對於音樂的理解也是加乘的。所以幸運一點的學生,甚至室內樂老師、樂團指揮老師,都遇到好老師,那音樂養分便持續滋養,音樂越學越好。

若兩樣樂器其中一樣遇到好老師,學生聰明一點的,可以自己將方法與音樂的理解套用在另一樂器上。

如果都沒有,只是盲練,多學的意義就不大,有時甚至會變成負擔。例如小提琴練得手緊,鋼琴就一起練得很緊;練習時都在蠻練、不用腦,就會習慣看到譜都不用腦;沒習慣聽好的聲音,練兩樣樂器都會不注意聲音,那不如先專心練一樣,但不是傻練就會「專精」,除了練琴效能,也建議將原本練另一個樂器的時間,拿去聽真正好的音樂,習慣好的聲音。

很多時候琴藝上不去,不是手的問題,是腦的問題。

所以很多音樂班孩子兩樣都很好,或者兩樣都很差。一樣樂器好、另一樣不好通常是因為不好的那樣樂器根本沒在練 ^^‘’

當然,如果只是上開心玩一玩,每個樂器學個一年,學大概知道怎麼操作,就無所謂,沒有不好。

女儿顺利录取第一选择台湾艺术大学,除了感恩,也是全家人的一种人生道路的确认与肯定。
要知道在马来西亚,怡保这个地方做音乐事业是非常不容易的。除了对古典音乐的认可低,学费也低,演出机会也少以及种种不良的因素造成在这里搞音乐事业,非常的困难。如果以商业角度去经营音乐,肯定不会长久,除非是别无选择。
但是,女儿愿意跟从我们这条路,代表我们没有选择错误。因为音乐主要的功能不是商业,而是心灵的粮食。我们家虽然没有大富大贵,但是却每天活得很充实快乐,因为心灵深处满足了。
任何的事业或职业,是否成功经营,或许就是反映在孩子们能否继承事业。

My daughter was successfully admitted to her first choice, Taiwan National University of Arts. Apart from feeling grateful, it is also a confirmation and affirmation of our family's life path.

You see, in Malaysia, it's very difficult to pursue a music career., especially in a place like Ipoh. Where classical music is not widely recognized, fees are low, performance opportunities are scarce, and there are many other unfavorable factors that make it very challenging to pursue a music career here. If you try to run music as a business, it certainly won't last long unless there is no other choice.

However, my daughter is willing to follow in our footsteps, which represents that we have not made a wrong choice. Because the main function of music is not for business, but for nourishing the soul. Although our family is not wealthy, we live each day very fulfilling and happy because our souls are satisfied.

Whether a career or profession is successful, perhaps it depends on whether our children can inherit and continue the legacy.

有幸参与这场比赛《情牵中马 乐聚槟城》槟州华乐观摩赛决赛于昨日在槟州大会堂完美落幕!600名参赛者中,共有419位参赛者入围决赛。大山脚日新国中华乐团技高一筹,在7支竞逐合奏队伍中脱颖而出,勇夺合奏组总冠军-金奖。银奖得主则来自北海钟灵中学华乐团及银奖得主来自槟华国民型华文中学华乐团。

这场比赛由槟州政府和中国驻槟城总领事馆主催,槟城青年发展机构(PYDC)与Cadenza Music and Performing Arts Academy联办,Atlantic by Motion in Style Sdn Bhd为支持单位。
