Welcome to DaMaI

DaMaI is a short form for Danum, Maliau & Imbak, a fully-protected conservation area situated in the heart of Sabah, Malaysia, with a combine area of some 907,219 hectares. DaMaI is a well-known manifestation of Yayasan Sabah’s association with conservation efforts which started in the early 1980’s, with the creation of two conservation areas, Danum Valley and Maliau Basin and then Imbak Canyon in 2003.

DaMaI is also securing nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The biodiversity of Borneo’s rainforest like DaMaI is among the richest in the world and Danum Valley Studies Centre world-class scientific research.

The protection of the remaining tropical rainforest is indeed crucial for the survival of millions of species, the mitigation of climate change, and well-being of human societies.

Time to protect our last remaining tropical forest 🌳

Herds of elephants increase at Maliau Basin KOTA KINABALU (June 18): The recent 2024 resource and wildlife survey at Maliau Basin Conservation Area (MBCA) has discovered an increase in herds of elephants and frequencies in the area. Sabah Environmental Trust (SET) Chief Executive Officer Dr Rahimatsah Amat said the presence of these herds

25 years of research shows: How to restore damaged rainforest | slu.se For the first time, results from 25 years of work to rehabilitate fire-damaged and heavily logged rainforest are now being presented. The study fills a knowledge gap about the long-term effects of restoration and may become an important guide for future efforts to restore damaged ecosystems.

Wildlife starting to reclaim restored habitat in Sabah KOTA KINABALU: Wildlife is returning 'home', thanks to the effective restoration of a severely degraded forest in Sabah.

A seminar on the INIKEA Resources & Wildlife Survey will be held as a continuation to the survey conducted from August 7th to August 20th, 2023.

The objectives of this Seminar are as follows:

i. To provide a platform for participants of the Survey to present and share their findings.
ii. To compile data and information for the formulation of INIKEA’s Strategic Management Plan.

The Seminar takes place on May 2nd, 2024 (Thursday), at the Shangri-la’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa in Kota Kinabalu. Approximately 150 attendees are expected, consisting mostly of participants from the INIKEA Resources & Wildlife Survey 2023, along with relevant department and agency heads, supporting staff, and members of the media.
