Human lens can turn white causing a white cataract. In my patient's case, his vision is very blurred.
I perform modern cataract operation, phacoemulsification and lens implant on his cataract.
On Day 1 after operation, his vision improved greatly⭐✨😃
Good surgical skills and proper preoperative planning is key to good visual outcome.

Cataract is a common eye condition that can be treated with phacoemulsification and lens implant.
In my last week's post, my patient with cataract has been troubled with blurred vision and glare especially when driving.
After thorough assessment and investigation of the eye as well patient's needs, phacoemulsification and multifocal (trifocal) lens implant was performed successfully.
My patient can now have glasses independence especially for reading and near work. Presbyopia and Astigmatism is well treated.
Multifocal lens implant requires a healthy eye to see through gainfully. If you have cataract and consider multifocal lens implant, please have your eyes assessed thoroughly.

Cataract (opacities of the crystalline lens) is a common eye problem. In the picture, my patient has opacities affecting the visual axis, which caused blurring of vision, difficulty in driving especially at night, difficulty looking at bright lights and poor colour vision.
When the pupil is dilated with drops, the full view of the cataract is visible behind the iris and pupil.
What can be done to help this patient of mine?

My patient was doing gardening when his eye was accidentally hit by a tree branch. He developed a nasty cornea ulcer few days later with severe blurring of vision.

He presented to my clinic and prompt treatment with antibiotics was started. He did well with recovery of most of his vision.

Advice - wear protective goggles when performing activities that can potentially injure one's eye.

High myopia or severe shortsightedness when it coexists with cataract, can be corrected in a single operation during cataract surgery and lens implantation.

A patient with vision problem will often have overwhelming concern and anxiety. It is important, as an Ophthalmologist (Eye specialist), I listen to their visual problem, examine their eyes and investigate accordingly.
Subsequently, it is to communicate to patients and reassure them.

Myopia or short-sightedness can be a progressive disease in young growing children. It is well established that high myopia is associated with increased risk of retinal detachment, myopic choroidal neovascularisation and glaucoma. Please read this article on prevention of myopia progression.
