Our Insolvency team has been active in sharing their insights on the insolvency and restructuring landscape in Malaysia. Recently, Daniel Teh, a Senior Manager from our Insolvency & Restructuring department was invited to speak at an event organised by Thomas Philip, Advocates & Solicitors. Together with the host from Thomas Philips, Sherylin Choy, participants of the event were given insights into what goes on in a liquidation process, and the roles played by lawyers and liquidators.

It was a great turnout with a very engaging audience.

Recently, our Partner for Insolvency & Restructuring, Ms Anoopal Kaur, in her capacity as the Co-Chair of The Malaysia Network of the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), was invited by the Penang Bar Council to speak on the recent amendments to the Companies Act 2016, particularly in the realm of restructuring.

There were a lot of questions, and great discussion among the panellists and participants. Looking forward to the next event together!

Our Operations Group - Automation & Innovation, Business Performance Improvement, Corporate Communications, Finance, Talent Interaction & Memories and Operations Support' Teams - went away for their annual group trip to Pulau Perhentian last weekend. It was a long journey, but one filled with adventure and laughter.

A huge appreciation goes out to the Operations Group for the work they put in behind the scenes every day!

This morning, at an event organised by ClearTax titled "Strategies for Compliance and Digital Transformation under Malaysia's 2024 e-Invoicing & Tax Reforms", our Managing Partner for Tax, Mr Anand Chelliah joined fellow panelists to share insights on "Leveraging Technology for Process and Business Transformation.". It was an interesting session with a lot of questions from the floor as the nation prepares for e-Invoicing.

Our Executive Directors for Tax, Mr Yohan Francis and Mr Marcus Tan, joined their fellow Tax Partners & Directors from the Baker Tilly Asia Pacific Region, as well as the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, at the Asia-Pacific Tax Seminar on 9 July 2024, to share their insights on the latest tax developments in the region and beyond.

At this inaugural event, Yohan moderated the session on Regional Transfer Pricing (TP) where our TP experts provided updates on the development of TP laws in the Asia Pacific region, while Marcus joined a panel discussion on Asia Pacific tax administration trends, tax developments and rising tax audit issues.

It was an incredible two-day experience at the Career Xplorer 2024, organized by UTAR Sg Long Accounting Society. We had such a blast meeting so many talented and enthusiastic people ready to take on new challenges.

"Trail Time Together" was an unforgettable adventure for our Baker Tillians! 🌄

Our Social Club committee organised a hike up Bukit Kutu, which is 1,053m above sea level with a high difficulty level. Our 31 determined Baker Tillians faced a challenging 10.5-hour hike. The rain that came pouring down also made the terrain muddy and slippery. Despite the tough conditions, the spirit of camaraderie shone through as our people supported and motivated each other every step of the way, ensuring that no one was left behind.

We are also very proud that our people ensured that they carried all their empty lunch boxes and litter back, leaving no trace behind except their footprints. A true testament to teamwork and respect for nature!

It was indeed a day well spent in nature and conquering new heights! Special appreciation also goes to our mountain guides who took such good care of our people. Kudos to the Social Club organising committee!

We were pleased to welcome accounting students from UiTM Puncak Alam at our office this afternoon.

Our representatives from Audit, Tax, Advisory, Global Business Solutions and Internal Audit Risk Advisory were also present to share their experiences in their respective fields with the students, providing them with valuable insights and inspiration. Always happy to be able to engage with the next generation this way. The afternoon concluded with a tour of our office, light refreshments, and further engagement with the students.

Last week, at an event that was jointly hosted by Finexus, Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (MAJECA) and Malaysia South-South Association (MASSA), our Executive Director for Tax, Mr Marcus Tan, was invited to share his insights on the tax impact of e-Invoicing to businesses in Malaysia. Ms Yaszrina Yassin, Head of e-Invoicing Tech and Data Standardisation at MDEC, who was also a speaker at the event, shared her insights on the latest updates on Malaysia's e-Invoicing regime.
