HWUM Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia offering high quality British education.
Accreditation is a very important exercise for an engineering program. We at HWUM not only having the UK accreditation, we got to comply with the local EAC accreditation too. To prepare the team better for the actual day in May, we had a mock accreditation on the 8th of March 2024. Thank you Prof. Patrick Teo Patrick Teo from UNMC and Ir. Noorfaizah from UITM for agreeing to help us with your thoughts and feedback to equip us better.
We are honour to have 2 guest speakers shared with our year 3 students this semester. Ir. Loi Yew Hua, Direct of Perunding LNL SDN BHD and Ir. Dr. Yuen Choon Wah, a senior Lecturer in Department of Civil Engineering, University Malaya. Their sharing is invaluable and beneficial for our students. Thank you for your precious time and sharing.
ICE HWUM student chapter has successfully organised a site visit to Sunway Velocity plot B this morning. The group consists of year 1 to year 4 students with priority given to the ICE committee members and first come first basis. A fruitful visit as students get the opportunity to go to the rooftop, 48th floor, 20th floor and 8th floor. There is a rainwater harvesting system, will have some solar panels too on the rooftop! From planning to departure was all planned by the student committee. Well done!
Activity that HWUM Civil Engineering students are involved in.
Our students are part of this too as we have an ICE student chapter in HWUM to organise events and activities in and outside the university.
[ICE Presidential Visit]
We are thrilled to announce that the Institutions of Civil Engineers Student Chapters are hosting a meet and greet session with Prof Anusha Shah, the ICE President, at Universiti Malaya. After nearly two years since the last ICE presidential visit, we are excited to come together to celebrate our ongoing friendship with ICE. This event is a collaborative effort involving the 10 Student Chapters from universities across Malaysia. Stay tuned for an evening of connection, learning, and celebration!
Civil Engineering in HWUM is not only accredited locally but also by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), UK. The JBM is appointed by, and answerable to, the Councils/Executive Boards of the sponsoring institutions and reports through the relevant membership/education committees of ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE and PWI. The last JBM visit was in 2019 (we got 5 years) and the board visited us again on 12th and 13rd of December 2023.

On 25th September, Ir. Alex Cheong and Ir. Danny Foo from Sepakat Setia Perunding (SSP) came and shared with us on SUKE highway. An open eye to our students on real projects. Hope this sharing has created an impact to our future civil engineers!
We are honored to have an opportunity to visit the site in March 2023! We highly appreciate Axventure Sdn. Bhd. for allowing and guiding us to have a short visit on the SkyVogue Residences working site at Taman Desa. It is a precious experience for students to learn with those professional engineers on a site physically as well as understanding some rules and regulations on site๐. We believe that this will be a memorable experience for every single participant in their future as an engineer๐ทโโ๏ธ.
