Why I Chose Eldercare
I have been in eldercare for the past 9 years, and today, I was reflecting on the journey I have been on thus far. From working at St Luke's Eldercare in Singapore, one of the most reputable eldercare operators in the country, to now running my own dietetics consultation services specializing in eldercare, it’s been quite a journey. It was never a coincidence that I stepped into eldercare during a low season of my life. My passion grew as I received a book from the then-CEO of St Luke's Hospital.
Standing in the gap for seniors has always been my passion. I strongly believe in the power of eating right to recover well. Simply put: not eating right means not getting the right nutrients, which leads to not having enough energy, resulting in no strength, increased family/caregiver stress, more hospital stays/bills, weight loss, and ultimately, a longer recovery time.
Having the right knowledge of nutrition is crucial. Let's close the gaps one step at a time.
ReU Living is an Eldercare and a post-surgery recovery center located inside the Micasa Hotel. Yes, you read it right. It’s in the hotel.

It was enjoyable to be involved in designing the meal plans for the contestants of the Massimo Bread Challenge and conducting interviews with them after the challenge.
We were further inspired by witnessing their progress and the transformative moments they experienced through the nutrition knowledge we shared during the contest. The average weight loss among the contestants was 2-3kg, which aligned with the healthy rate of weight loss.

Last Sunday, our dietitian had the incredible opportunity to be part of a unique and informative session at the inspiring . We aim to partner with reputable brands to help consumers make the right choices for their health.
The event was set up like a vibrant flea market, and it came with a twist - we were encouraged to bring our own plates, cups, and containers, fostering an eco-friendly environment. We were also experienced using coconut husks to scrape down the coconut flesh.
We indulged in an array of wholesome treats and were even presented with a special drink designed to promote gut health, setting the perfect tone for the day. Our dietitian, Yi Bin, couldn't get enough of the Chee Cheong Fun made with Sunria rice from Indonesia and was pleasantly surprised to find herself enjoying the flavors of tempeh, a food she wasn't fond of before.

We're conducting another nutrition training session for nurses in the Singapore healthcare industry. This time, we're joined by nurses from Ang Mo Kio Thye Hua Kwan Hospital, Home Nursing Foundation, Ling Kwang Home for Senior Citizens, St. Andrew Community Hospital and Nursing Home, and Crawfurd Hospital. It's a privilege to share our knowledge with these dedicated professionals.

What's the right sequence of care and where does nutrition fit in?
Our dietitian had the privilege of participating in the 18th Malaysian Congress of Geriatric Medicine (MCGM) 2023 as a speaker, addressing the given topic of "Nutrition as Medicine in Fallers with Parkinson's Disease." This event provided us with a unique platform to share insights with a diverse audience primarily composed of esteemed Doctors, Geriatricians, and Healthcare Professionals. The experience was both humbling and invaluable.
Nutrition had a significant impact on the recovery process, particularly following a fall. Keep in mind that consuming a proper diet is essential for effective healing.
True facts: There are only about 60+ geriatricians in Malaysia (none in Perlis and Terrengganu)- Too little but will have more soon.

We were recently engaged to help ReU Living, a premium eldercare service provider offering post-surgery care and retirement living, to redefine their food culture. Our goal is to ensure that their clients are able to age well and recover well through intentional meal planning.
We put emphasis on:
1. Proper food portioning (ensure adequate nutrients intake)
2. Food presentation (pleasing to the eyes = encourage food intake)
3. Menu variety (nobody likes to eat the same/similar food everyday)
When designing the menu, we considered factors like dish colour (having different dishes with different colours at a meal), complementary flavours (no clashes in taste among dishes), and a mix of cuisines to keep things interesting for the clients. We want them to look forward to mealtime and enjoy their food.
