IJMB/JUPEB is a national examination body saddle with responsibility of conducting examinations for students who have undergone approved subject combinations and are seeking Direct Entry admissions into Nigeria and partnering foreign tertiary institutions. The establishments of the examinations bodies were approved by federal government of Nigeria to fill the gap created by the discontinuance of Advance Level Examination.

IJMB and JUPEB are two different A/level programmes but both guarantees students to gaining admission into 200level in any desired university of their choice. Each candidate must register, sit for examinations and satisfy the Boards in three subjects relevant to the proposed course in any of the universities out of which a candidate is expected to obtain a minimum of 5 points out of 16 points.

Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) registration in progress.

The Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE) is a qualifying examination into Nigerian and Foreign Universities. The IJMB examination is primarily for Advanced Level subjects for Direct Entry into 200 level in the Universities.

The syllabus for the IJMB Examination is compiled in line with international standard educational requirements and admission requirements of various Universities, Nigeria and overseas.

The IJMB syllabus is designed to be covered in only one (1) academic session over a period of two (2) semesters. The content of the IJMB syllabus is structured in such a way to ensure that all the topics in the IJMB subjects are covered within the two semesters. A list of relevant IJMB reading texts is provided at the end of each IJMB subject syllabus to guide the institutions, lecturers and students in the course of running the IJMB programme.

For effective coverage of the IJMB syllabus, a minimum of 8-10 lecture hours per week is recommended, IJMB practical and field works included. The IJMB syllabus may be revised every eight (8) years.

SELECTION OF IJMB SUBJECT COMBINATION
Candidates for the IJMB Advanced Level Examination should refer to the current JAMB brochure for appropriate IJMB subject combinations leading to the proposed course of study in the University. Each IJMB candidate shall enroll and sit for only three (3) subjects for the final IJMB examination.

Requirements And Cost
Applicants must pass five subjects at credit level at not more than two sittings in the SSCE/GCE organized by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and should include the major subjects of study. Candidates who are expecting the release of their ‘O’ level results CAN also apply by indicating their “Awaiting Result” status appropriately ONLINE. The programme is for a duration of 9 month divided into two semesters (c) Eligibility: IJMB programme is open to all interested candidate nationwide. The venue of the programme depends on the candidate's choice, all interested IJMB Applicant are expected to choose from our various study centres nationwide, the centre they wish to do the programme during their online registration, based on the Study Centre Availability at the time of registration. So therefore earlier registration is advisable.

IJMB is a national educational programme approved by the Federal Government, coordinated nationwide by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with different affiliated Study Centres across the country. The IJMB programme provides a platform that enables successful IJMB candidates to secure direct admission into 200 Level in Nigerian Universities and Abroad.

2 TREND
Annually, about 30,000 candidates put in for the IJMB programme, out of which about 20,000 applicants come off successful at the end of the IJMB programme, and secure admission with the IJMB result into 200 level in various Universities nationwide.

3 CERTIFICATION
IJMBE is certified by Nigeria University Commission (NUC) and Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) as an A'level programme that qualifies candidates to secure direct admission into 200 Level in the Universities upon successful completion of the IJMB programme.

*JAMB Introduces Verbal Reasoning Test For Direct Entry Applicants.*

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that candidates for its Direct Entry examination will be subjected to cognitive and verbal reasoning tests beginning in 2024.

This was revealed by JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, during a virtual meeting with the commissioners of education in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

A special bulletin released by the Board on Monday quoted him as saying, “As from 2024, JAMB will conduct Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates to assess their academic potential or career suitability, as well as their mental or physical capacity.

“It is an intelligent test that will measure the candidate’s current cognitive skills and will not be the usual subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Government, or Physics.”

The aptitude test would include verbal, abstract, mechanical and numerical reasoning, data checking and work sampling, according to the registrar.

The participants were also informed by the registrar that “only JAMB offices nationwide will be able to register for the Direct Entry”.

He said all DE candidates would have to provide the following at the time of registration: Registration/Matriculation Number of the previous school attended; subject of qualification; awarding institution; institution attended; year of graduation as well as admission letter, where necessary.

Admission to higher education

After secondary education, students can continue onto higher education. In Nigeria, the JAMB arranges admission to higher education.

There are 2 types of admission:

1. indirect admission to higher education

2. direct admission to higher education

•Indirect admission to higher education

Indirect admission to higher education means that students need to take the Nigerian entrance exam. This usually applies to students with 1 of the following diplomas:

West African Senior School Certificate from the WAEC

Senior School Certificate from the NECO

National Technical Certificate (NTC)

National Business Certificate (NBC)

What to know about the Entrance exam?

The Nigerian entrance exam is called the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The JAMB arranges the UTME.
The UTME consists of 4 subjects: Use of English and 3 electives.

Students choose subjects that are relevant to the study programme they would like to be admitted to.

Please note: the subjects and grades from both the UTME and previous education count towards admission.
By selecting ‘Brochure’ on the JAMB website, students can see which subjects and grades are required for each study programme and/or higher education institution.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT DIRECT ADMISSION TO HIGHER EDUCATION!

Direct admission to higher education means that students can be admitted to higher education without having to take the UTME. They do not have to take the UTME. For example, a National Diploma (ND) can give the right to direct admission in Nigeria.

Ijmbe and Jupeb are the major programs used for Direct Admission because they facilitate students in securing direct admission into 200-level universities of their choice.

Through JUPEB/IJMB, you can gain direct admission to the 200-level at any university without taking the UTME (JAMB).

The university Preliminary Examination Board is known by the abbreviation *JUPEB. The federal government and NUC (National Universities Commission) have accepted the program as a requirement for obtaining university admission into 200l without UTME (JAMB).

Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination is referred to as IJMB. The federal government and NUC (National Universities Commission) have accepted the program as a requirement for obtaining university admission into 200l without UTME (JAMB).

The curriculum lasts for nine months and corresponds to their 100level. After the program, they would be able to get 200-level entrance the following year without JAMB. Students will resume during the program's duration.
