I stopped by Ikot Akan in Uruan Local Government Area on Friday, February 23, 2024, to commiserate with my brother and friend, Dr Eventus Edem over the demise of his mother, the late Lady Lucy Dominic Edem, aged 69.

The late Lady Edem was a revered community leader and a Lady of the Order of Knights of Saint Mulumba Nigeria, who lived for the advancement of the teachings of Christ. Though Lady Lucy Dominic Edem lived a spirited, elegant, and impactful life, she directed her love and energy towards service to God and humanity.

The son, Dr. Eventus Edem, doubles as the National Coordinator of the RHAB-Mega Movement and the Spokesperson of the Uyo Senatorial District Campaign Council. He is a former Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council.

SENATOR BASSEY PUSHES FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF FEDERAL COLLEGE OF FISHERY TECHNOLOGY

Senator Aniekan Bassey of the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District has pushed for the establishment of a Federal College of Fishery Technology and Aquaculture in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State for the benefit of the state and its people.

The Senator made the move during Tuesday plenary where he sought an amendment to a bill, the Agricultural Research Council Act (Amendment) Bill 2024, which has passed through first reading.

According to Senator Bassey, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development, the Bill seeks to amend the Agricultural Council Act to establish the Federal College of Fishery Technology and Aquaculture in Uruan.

The proposed Federal College is aimed at “providing full-time course for teaching, instruction and training in fishery technology, aquaculture, applied science, commerce, arts, social sciences, humanities and management.”

The College will also “carry out research in the development and adaptation of fishery techniques, make provision for the appointment of a Provost and the officials to carry out the administration and the discipline of students.”
