By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu

Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner Honourable Ify Obinabo has urged the Okpala's family in Akwaeze to forgive their daughter Miss Josephine Okpala for assassinating one of their own.

This came following a viral video of Josephine Okpala on the internet accusing her Aunty Philomena Okpala of being responsible for her son's death, diabolically holding her Josephine and her sisters from getting married, making the first son not to be a responsible fellow amongst other ear tingling things she said in the video.

By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, school children in Awka attended a one-day sensitization and awareness-building event on ending violence against children, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.

The event at Udoka Nursery and Primary School in Awka is a component of the Women Affairs Minister's strategy to put a stop to the suffering of children who experience abuse.

More than ten schools participated in the sensitization and awareness-building event that was conducted in Awka, Anambra State.

In her speech to the students, the Honorable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, stressed that raising awareness of the issue of violence against children is crucial—not because it's a recent development, but rather because it must be stopped by teaching students the appropriate actions to take.

Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye who spoke through her Deputy Director, Child Development, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Christiana Oliko clarified that, if child abuse is not addressed, the victims may experience trauma and other psychological problems.

In their various paper presentations, the Assistant Director, Child Development, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Miriam Shaibu and a staff member of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs Mr Emmanuel Alhassan who took the students on Understanding Rights and Responsibilities of Children and Drug Abuse Prevention and Mental Health Issues respectively all encouraged the students to report any form of violence or abuse for immediate attention and to abstain from substance abuse, which could negatively impact their future.

The State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare officials, teachers from the several schools in attendance, and the Speaker of the Anambra State Children's Parliament, Right Honorable Victory Ekwunife, were all present during the sensitization program.

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs' representatives gave gifts, held a cultural dance exhibition, and hosted a quiz and drama competition with a focus on abuse against children.

WOMEN AFFAIRS BOSS, OBINABO RETRIEVES 3 CHILDREN FORCEFULLY TAKEN AWAY FROM MOTHER IN AWKA.

By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu

Three children who had been forcibly removed from their mother for six years have been returned by Hon. Ify Obinabo, the Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner.

She did this in response to a petition made by a woman named Chizoba Patience Nwafor, who claimed that her husband, Ogochukwu David Nwafor, who lives in South Africa, had given the children to his sister, Ukamaka Igwilo, who then gave them to Josephine Okoye and her husband, Mr. Chukwudimma Okoye.

After the ministry conducted a preliminary investigation, Hon. Obinabo stormed the school and rescued the three kids.

The complainant, Chizoba Nwafor, thanked the Women Affairs Commissioner while openly crying and explained that her children had all been taken from her six years prior despite her best efforts to get them back.
Chizoba Nwafor claimed that her last child was just two years old when they were taken from her and that ever since, her husband's family has denied her access to see them and has forbidden her from getting close to them.

Josephine Okoye, however, refuted this claim and alleged that since their brother took their children, they have never seen Chizoba.

The head of women's affairs for Anambra State, Obinabo, who was incensed by the perpetrators' callous demeanor, issued a dire warning to any would-be offenders, stating that under no circumstances would the family be allowed to obtain custody of the children because the mother was still alive.

Hon. Obinabo went on to say that the government of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo would not tolerate any sort of detrimental behavior perpetrated against women by other women while under his administration.

Even though the smallest could hardly recall who Chizoba is, the kids were glad to be reunited with their mother after the rescue.

David Nwafor who resides in South Africa, as well as his family, were summoned for a meeting with the Honorable Commissioner on Friday.

Illeg@l Adøption: Obinabo Ręscuęs 3 month Old B@by Sold By Gr@ndmother, Appręhends Offęnders

By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu

Ify Obinabo, the commissioner for Women and Social Welfare in Anambra State, has rescued a three-month-old baby who had been sold by the grandmother.

The rescue occurred in response to a report by Ijeoma Nwosu, who claimed that Oluchukwu Nwosu, her mother, forcefully sold her baby soon after he was born and has since refused to tell her where he is.

Following receipt of the allegation, the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner immediately took action to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

After almost a month of consistent intelligence surveillance by the State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare Awka, the offenders were caught.

Speaking just moments after saving the three-month-old child, Hon. Obinabo bemoaned the fact that, despite the state government's efforts to put an end to all forms of illegal adoption, some careless people continue to practice the crime, undermining those efforts.

Hon. Obinabo thus issued a warning that anyone found participating in an unlawful adoption must face legal action.

This is the third time Oluchukwu Nwosu's daughter Ijeoma has conceived outside of marriage, and according to her daughter, Oluchukwu Nwosu sold out the three-month-old baby while sobbing and pleading for forgiveness. She said she sold the baby for 50,000 thousand naira, noting that her two older sons are already being cared for by the state community children's home in Awka.

Mrs. Nwosu claimed that due of their low income and lack of childcare, they have had trouble feeding themselves from the time her daughter gave birth to the present.

Mrs. Nwosu described how she came across a buyer as being approached by one Tochukwu Asiegbu, who after some haggling paid her the agreed upon sum.

Tochukwu Asiegbu claimed that because he gave Oluchukwu Nwosu everything that was provided, he only got a profit of 30,000 000 naira from the deal.

Sadly, such wasn't the case with the buyer Evelyn Egwuatu, a native of Uruagu Nnewi, who reported that she paid one Ebelechukwu Uba from Ebonyi but a resident of Anambra the sum of 200,000 thousand naira to obtain the child for her.

Ebelechukwu Uba claims that Tochukwu Asiegbu and Ijeoma Nwosu's mother, Oluchukwu Nwosu, and not Ijeoma Nwosu herself, made the decision to deliver the child to Evelyn Egwuatu.

They all agreed that the incident occurred about three months ago, but to everyone's greatest surprise, the baby is sick and underweight because he was fed soya bean powder instead of the proper baby food because, according to the buyer, she didn't have the money to buy the baby food he needed.

All of the perpetrators of this act have been found and given to the police for additional questioning and investigation as of the time of this report.

By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu

Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner Honourable Ify Obinabo has handed over the founder of Arrows of God Community Children’s Nkwelle 33 Rev D. C Ogo to men of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for illegal adoption.

This was done following an investigative report by one investigative journalist ‘FISAYO SOYOMBO which made rounds on social media and local television stations alleging that the state ministry of women and social welfare was involved in an illegal adoption of a baby girl alongside one of her registered homes in the state.

Addressing the founder of the home in her office in Awka, Hon Obinabo lamented over the bad image Rev Ogo has given the state despite governments numerous efforts to rid Anambra state of corrupt adoption practices.

The Women Affairs boss therefore warned other community children's home operators to desist from all forms of illegalities that will bring bad name to the state.

On why she carried out the adoption process despite the commissioner's warning, Rev Ogo could not come up with any reasonable excuse to the question but rather said that it was her secretary one Mr Monday who handled the adoption.

When she was asked why it took her two months to surface after the sealing of the home, the suspect Rev Ogo alledged that She was sick hence couldn't come when she was summoned.

Recall that Arrows of God community children's home Nkwelle 33 has been sealed by the Honourable Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare over illegal adoption were 20 children was recovered from the operator including a new born
