BEFORE YOU JUDGE PROPHET JONAH, READ THIS 👇👇👇

By: Min. Adetona Victoria Abosede

There are some situations that will threaten our commitment and Faithfulness to God.

Let me personalize this statement because I don't know about others, that, I grew up with an odd mentality about Prophet Jonah due to some teachings.

We were thought that he is a rebellious prophet, he is disobedient, God used him by force, he rejected God's call and some other teachings like that which were not true.

Many people would also do the same thing Jonah did if they were in his shoes.

To be real here, I am not 50% sure of myself that I won't do the same if I were the one after doing the background study of what really happened 😂.

The reasons why Jonah fled was complicated.

Jonah was a Prophet of God and he has been delivering messages for God before the issue of Nineveh came up. Jonah was apparently an older contemporary of Hosea and Amos.

Through the prophets Isaiah, Amos and Hosea, God revealed that He was sending His people into Assyrian captivity. In order to prepare the way for them, He wanted Jonah to go to the Assyrian people and preach repentance toward the one true and living God.

Jonah was the bridge to bring the hearts of the Assyrians closer to God in preparation for the coming of the Israel- ite captives. It seemed that Jonah did not understand this mission, and thus he manifested this resistance to God's call to go to Nineveh. Though Jonah knew that his fellow prophets had stated that the northern kingdom.

It seemed that Jonah did not understand this mission, and thus he manifested this resistance to God's call to go to Nineveh. Though Jonah was aware of the prophecy given by his fellow prophets.

Although, Jonah knew that the people will repent considering his statement in Jonah 4:2 but he had to flee because of the circumstances that surrounded his journey to Nineveh.

Although, there is no reason that can justify you fleeing from God's call but before we begin to condemn and call Jonah names, let us look at the reasons why he fled.

1) Jonah fled because of his people, the Israelites: The Assyrians were enemies of the Israelites at the time Jonah was sent to Nineveh. If the Israelites find out about his journey to Nineveh, they will stone him to death with the accusation that he is making friends with their enemy. So, that will present Jonah as a rebel, betrayal and an enemy.

2) Jonah fled because of the Assyrians: Jonah was aware of all the evil acts of the Assyrians. The inhabitants of the city were idolaters, and knew nothing of Jehovah, in whose name the warning was to be given, and the destruction denounced. The city was proud as well as idolatrous, and would look down with contempt on an Israelite, coming from a distant country, hardly known to many of them, or at least despised by them.

Looking at the fact that he will encounter difficulty in the land, he might not come back alive because they were enemies.

3) Jonah fled because he thinks the Assyrians were too sinful to receive God's mercy: Jonah concluded that the Assyrians deserved judgement(destruction) not mercy (forgiveness).

Looking at the first two two reasons Jonah fled, we would see that he was not fleeing from God or His message but he fled for his life.

Looking at the third reason why Jonah fled, we would see that he was too concerned about why God will decide to forgive the Assyrians after all their evil deeds not fully aware of God's intention.

He didn't know that God was working in the favour of the Israelites. God didn't want the Assyrians to corrupt the Israelites during the time they will spend in captivity of the Assyrians.

So, Jonah was not rebellious, he had his own reasons.

It was not only Jonah that fled
Elijah also fled when Jezebel was killing the Prophets thinking that he's the only prophet remaining.

So, there are some situations that will threaten our commitment and Faithfulness
Let us always seek for God's help, strength and grace.
May the Lord be with us all in Jesus name.

READ HER TESTIMONY: ETHICS OF HONOR IN MINISTRY CHANGED HER LIFE.

Talking about Ministry, I did some things because I saw people doing it without having knowledge of it. Despite the fact that I'm a leader in the ministry, I still don't understand some ethics in ministry. But, EHM class is an eye-opener.

It gives answers to all questions in my mind. It makes me see ministry more than I thought it was.

Now, I have a better understanding of ministry and ethics of honouring peoples in ministry.

God Bless the Chancellor!
God Bless the Lecturers!
God Bless SWEBI in general.

SERMON DELIVERED ON THE GRADUATION CEREMONY OF SWEBI BY PASTOR AMAKIRI LUCKY .P

AVOIDING FAILURE IN MINISTRY
TEXT: I COR 10:1-11
INTRODUCTION: This message is very important to pastors already in ministry, and for also upcoming pastors. So many pastors failed in ministry, and we need to know what made them to fail in the line of duty, and how we can avoid those things that made them to fail in ministry.

Consequently, knowledge is power, and when you’re ignorant of something there is no way you can escape it.

REASONS WHY MANY MINISTERS FAILED IN MINISTRY
First we need to know what made some ministers to fail or record failure in ministry [Galatians 6:3]. Many ministers failed in ministry due to the following factors;
1. Many Were Not Called In The First Place [Matt 22:14]: Many were not called by God to start a ministry or to be a pastor/minister, and therefore there is no backing of heaven and approval from God, that is why many get stranded and when faced with challenges, they’re confused not knowing how to go back to God to remind Him of His promises during the calling.
2. Sin And Secret Sin [Prov 28:13]: Why many ministers fail is due to secret sin, unconfessed sin that has been covered up for years and it has become their lifestyle and can disgrace them and their ministry, which can then lead to failure.
3. Pride [Prov 16:18]: So many ministers have failed in ministry due to pride. They don’t regard anybody or take advice from anyone, they’re overconfident, full of themselves, and they believe they know it all.
4. Financial Stress: many ministers/pastors failed in ministry due to financial burdens that was too heavy for them to bear such as paying church rent, fueling of generator, maintaining the church due to no help coming from members and so, they decided to give up.
5. Love of Women: Most ministers were too close and careless with the opposite s*x, and that has resulted to their failure in ministry because they fell into the trap of Delilah and their ministry ended.
6. Ignorance: Lawyers say ignorance is not an excuse to the law. So many ministers failed in ministry due to their ignorance of the move and dimensions of God. What they don’t know, kept them on the ground.
7. Refusal to Learn: Most ministers claim to have known it all, whereas they don’t know anything and they refuse to update themselves with knowledge and new dimensions/realms of God and it has led them to fail in ministry through learning and attending seminars.
8. Lack of Mentors / Guide: Many lack who to mentor them, talk less of guiding. Even when they go wrong, there’s no one to call them to order and rebuke them. This is one of the factors that has made many ministers to fail in ministry.
9. Lack of Vision: As a minister your vision is your television. Many don’t have vision and as a result of that, they lack direction and get frustrated on the way and it led to their failure in ministry.
10. Family Problem: Most ministers failed due to not giving attention, the needed care and love to their spouse, and it resulted to the wife troubling the pastor and the children being wayward. It goes along to affect the minister and it leads to failure in ministry.
11. Health Challenge: Many ministers refuse to go to the hospital to know the status of their health, and they attribute every form of sickness to attack and that has resulted too many ministers failing in ministry due to health challenge.
12. Disobedience: Most ministers failed in ministry due to being disobedient to God’s instructions, rather they decide to do things in their own way.
13. Unfaithfulness and Lack of Commitment to the Work: Most ministers never know or understand what ministry is all about, and because of that they’re unfaithful and lack commitment to the work of God, and it leads to their failure in ministry.
14. Lack of Sponsors: Most of them were anointed, but anointing can’t buy you speakers or microphone. Many got frustrated because there was nobody to sponsor them in ministry by taking care of the financial needs of the church and the pastor. Remember anointing without money is annoyance, and this leads to their failure in ministry.
15. Failure to Sacrifice [Pay the ultimate price for greatness]: Many followed because they saw others dressing and appearing well, so all their mentality is like that but for you to succeed in ministry you have to sacrifice by paying the ultimate price for greatness. So the reason why they failed is that they refuse to pay the price.
16. Discouragement: Many ministers failed in ministry due to total discouragement from the same people they are pastoring, and praying for.
17. Impatient. Many failed due to impatient, when you cultivate a farm and plant your crops such as corn yam and cassava, it will take time to grow and mature enough for you to harvest but, must ministers that failed refused to follow this process rather the resulted to harvest it immature, and that has led to their failure in ministry.
18. Giving position of trust to an enemy of God
Many pastors or ministers failed due to appointing Gods enemies into the work force and pastor’s forum and the same people Satan used to make the pastor to fail in his assignment, causing confusing among the brethren and discoed among workers in the church.

HOW TO AVOID FAILURE IN MINISTRY
[DAN 9:2]
Having seen some of the reasons why many ministers failed in ministry, therefore now we will x-ray how we can avoid failure in ministry as upcoming ministers and ministers already in ministry. For we to avoid failure in ministry there are certain factors that we need to put into consideration and they’re as follows;
1. Avoid the numerous mistakes of other ministers: You don’t need to make the same mistake other ministers are making even though they’re so popular and famous in the society, you don’t follow them. That is how you avoid failure in your calling and ministry.
2. Have a clear vision: Your vision is your television, when you have your vision clear to you, you work towards it to achieve them. For your vision is your map and blue print in ministry, and with a clear vision you can avoid failure in ministry because you know what and where you’re going.
3. Be focused and courageous: You need not to be distracted by what you see in ministry, rather be focused and courageous. When you’re driving a car along the road, you will see a lot of things that may cause distraction but focus and courage will help you to succeed, and so it is also in ministry.
4. Build a personal relationship with God: As a minister of God, you need to build a personal relationship with God outside your congregation and workers, so as to build capacity and to know Him more.
5. Attend seminars and conferences to improve yourself: As a minister, you need not to be satisfied with what you know, therefore seek to attend seminars and conferences to improve yourself. I don’t care if you agree, but there are things you don’t know but through attending seminars and conferences, you get more improved.
6. Stop depending on your members financially to run the church: As a minister, learn not to depend on your members for finance to run the church, rather depend on Him who called you because your members will disappoint you when you never expected.
7. Have a voice that can speak into your life: As a minister, you need a voice to correct you, rebuke you and to speak into your life, so as to keep you from failing in ministry.
8. Have time for your family: As a minister if your family is not in order, it will affect your ministry adversely. Therefore have time for your spouse and children, for your family is your first church. So please have time for them.
9. Take care of your health: As a minister your health is your wealth. Many ministers are no more, while some are managing their body. Create out time to know your health status and treat yourself where necessary to keep yourself fit for the work.
10. Obey heavenly instructions: For you to avoid failure in ministry, obey God’s instruction.
11. Seek for the Spirit of discernment: As a minister, you have to be spiritually alert to know when the enemy is at work. Discernment will enable you as a minister to avoid failure in ministry.
12. Learn time management: As a minister, learn to manage your time in every service, keep to time and close your service according to the time allotted to you.
13. Stay within the confines of your calling: As a minister don’t deviate from your calling, for you were not called for everybody and you were given specific assignment, so concentrate on it.
14. Encourage your team: As a minister you can’t do the work alone, therefore all those supporting you and your ministers, have a way of encouraging them to put in more effort.
15. Be accountable and accessible: As a minister of God, be accountable and allow people to access you. Don’t be a lord over the flocks.
16. Manage stress wisely: The work ministry is a very stressful work, therefore manage your stress wisely and try to have a good rest.
17. Paying dangerous price: As a minister, you have to pay the price of fasting, studying and waiting upon the Lord and giving your time for the work. That is one of the major ways to avoid failing in ministry.
In summary co-ministers in the vineyard of the most high, let’s work by the leadership of the Holy Spirit, by depending on the Holy Spirit to teach and to guide us. Put God first in all your decisions and don’t lead God but allow him to lead you.

POWERFUL TESTIMONY: HIS DRESSING CHANGED AFTER ATTENDING PULPIT MANAGEMENT IN THE CHURCH COURSE

I thank God for this beautiful opportunity to learn and I'm also very grateful to my lecturer for the love express while lecturing. I also thank SWEBI and members for providing a serene environment for learning.

I've learnt in the process that has powerful as my temperament is, it should not dictate or decide who I am on the pulpit.
The pulpit is not a platform to disrespect the congregation of God's people.

These course have actually made me a better person and when it comes to time management on the pulpit, I've experienced a drastic change to the Glory of God.

My mindset concerning dressing is greatly transformed as I've been careless in that area but now, I dress to edify the church and to Glory my God. Hallelujah.

Thank you once again to SWEBI.
