ABCOA attends Senate Public Hearing; supports (establishment) Bill of Federal University of Agriculture, Dambatta.
The management and cross-section of staff of Audu Bako College of Agriculture Danbatta along other numerous supporters for the passage of Federal University of Agriculture Dambatta (establishment) Bill has attended the Public Hearing organised by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, held Thursday 8th December, 2022 at the Senate Conference Room.
In a paper presentation conveying the total support of the Bill, the Provost, Prof. Wailare on behalf of the staff and students, the entire People of Dambatta/ Makoda and Kano North Senatorial Zone, pointed that the Bill to upgrade the famous College of Agriculture to the Federal University of Agriculture, has been an issue of greater concern for quite a period of time; considering its status in terms of staff quality and strength, vast land and other available resources needed for the smooth take up of the Federal University of Agriculture Dambatta.
Wailare added that, "the zone being predominantly agrarian and a hub of agricultural activities with several other agricultural establishments such as, the Poultry Institute Tukui, Thomas Dam Irrigation Project, Wase Dam Irrigation Project, Watari Dam Irrigation Project, Gari Dam Irrigation Project, Dawanau International Grain Market and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture is the most suitable for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture". Moreover, the Provost, further opined that the establishment, would cater for the agricultural manpower needs of Kano state and the country at large.
Speaking further, Prof. Wailare, noted that the passage of the Bill would contribute immensely to addressing youth rural-urban migration, solve agricultural research needs, bring agricultural education closer to the people, boost manpower development and capacity building, promote peace, create youth employment, reduce problem of brain drain and conservation of Forex spent on tertiary education in foreign countries amongst others.
In the end, the Provost Wailare expressed gratitude to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for the rare opportunity to make the submission, thanked the distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibrin for sponsoring the Bill and prayed for its successful passage.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion include amongst others the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Engr. Ibrahim Chidari, Academicians, traditional leaders, politicians and other community members.
