Pre-operational stage refers to the stage where children are able to manipulate information logically.

This stage begins from 2years to 7years.

Yes, the child is thinking.

However, they are yet to use logic to transform, combine, or separate ideas.

Children in the sensorimotor stage are little scientists.

They utilize skills and abilities they were born with such as looking, sucking, grasping, and listening, to learn more about the environment.

HOW TEACHERS CAN HELP CHILDREN LEARN

📌Provide exploratory play experiences using authentic, real-world objects.

📌Provide play inspirations which stimulate the five senses.

📌Implement age-appropriate routines. Predictable routines will help to develop communication skills. Such as children knowing the next move or next response.

Certain learning skills develop as learners advance in age.

Cognitive learning development occur in various stages. Understanding this will guide your decisions on children's class placement.

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT STAGES

Cognitive development means how children think, explore and figure things out. It is the development of knowledge, skills, problem solving and dispositions, which help children to think about and understand the world around them.

Piaget's theory of cognitive development is based on the idea that children go through four stages of development, each with their own unique characteristics and abilities.

✅The sensorimotor stage which begins from birth until age 2
✅Preoperational stage from age 2 to 7
✅Concrete operational stage, occurs from around 7 to 11 years
✅Formal operational stage, occurs from 11 and above.

The cognitive process helps teachers identify what needs to be taught and when. It informs parents of children's learning processes.

SEL(Social Emotional Learning)

SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.”

Michele started teaching more than 15 years ago, her relationship with her students was pretty formal. She was their teacher.

They were her students. During lessons at School, she would assign, lecture, and help her students grasp certain concepts. That was her job and she did it well, but she had a motto: Don’t Laugh in my Class.

Then, she lost a family member which left her always sad. She found that talking with her students about her loss not only helped her navigate through grief, but also made it easier for her students to talk about the challenges and pain in their lives.

“Talking about these issues in class, embedding it in my curriculum, is integral to how my students learn,” she explained.

“We’re all human. We’re all going through something, every one of us, especially teenagers. They have a right to be mad, a right to be sad, a right to be joyful.”

As teachers, it's important to consider Connection to Curriculum.
When you connect with learners, you will navigate through learning processes and challenges with ease.

In the period of education advancement, allow children to be children.

Childhood is the shortest phase of human life.

When an 8year old is in JS1, everyone would careless about the age but the class.

As they mature in age, they pick up new habits, likes, dislikes.

They begin to see certain people as role models.

No matter how much a child knows, age and maturity helps such child to balance cognitive development and skill acquisition.
These are important in our time.
