Making the decision to eat healthy in order to live a healthy life is a bold step.

However, there’s no doubt that you might feel less enthusiastic sometimes because you have to forgo some meals your taste buds have become accustomed to especially when those nagging cravings rear its ugly head when you least expect.

Here are 5 simple tips to help:

Go for a healthy substitute: You don’t have to bid farewell to your favorite flavors; it’s just a matter of making them work for you in a healthier way.

What you do, is pick a meal that you like and substitute with a healthier alternative.

For example, you like eating white bread? Opt for whole wheat bread instead.

Get creative making a sandwich with a healthy filling made up of cabbage, carrots, avocado and eggs for a nutritious breakfast

Craving ice-cream? Try a scoop of Greek yogurt with fresh berries as an alternative. You’ll achieve the same creamy delight without the sugar.

Swapping with healthier alternatives helps you indulge, guilt-free without compromising on your health goals.

2. Drink Water: Keeping hydrated can also help to curb food craving. The interesting is that our bodies confuses thirst for hunger.

So sometimes, what we perceive as hunger in actual fact is thirst.

Therefore, when next you feel the urge to eat, try and sip some water first.

3. Get active: Engaging in a physical activity can help keep you distracted when food craving hits.

Activities like taking a walk, dancing, or doing a quick workout can help.

These physical activities help to release hormones (endorphins) that can help to reduce cravings.

4. Plan Ahead: Being intentional is key when it comes to conquering cravings.

That’s why it’s important to plan your meals and snacks ahead so you don’t give in to
unhealthy eating.

It starts from your pantry and fridge. Stock them
up with healthy varieties so there’s no unhealthy alternative to choose from.

Healthy snacks include nuts, for example almonds, fruits, Greek yogurt, vegetables and so on.

5. Look within: Take time to reflect on the root cause of your cravings. Cravings often result from emotional triggers or habits e.g stress, boredom.

Finding alternative coping mechanisms by engaging in a hobby for instance can help to overcome the cravings.

Eating to live well is a journey and the important thing is to focus on progress, not perfection.

So, don’t beat yourself up or decide to throw in the towel when you give in to a craving once in a while.

By incorporating these strategies, Implementing and adopting them as a lifestyle, you’ll be in control of your cravings.

You’ll make healthier choices and achieve your overall health goals.

Convenience Culture
***

I’d like to share something I once stumbled upon.

It’s called Convenience Culture.

Convenience culture is how the society today, gears towards ease and instant gratification.

No doubt, we live in a fast-paced world where the sophistication in technology has made us accustomed to having everything at our finger tips.

From ordering take-outs, to getting our shopping delivered at out doorstep, streaming our favorite movies and TV shows all at the click of a button… the list goes on

This has gradually become a way of life for a lot of people.

Although it undeniably has its pros, it doesn’t come without its cons too.

The benefits of Covenience Culture include:

1. It saves time - Time is a great asset to anyone and Convenience culture helps to make the most of it time by offering time-saving products and services.

For instance ordering groceries and getting it delivered can save the time of having to drive to the store to make the purchase or being stuck in traffic in the process

2. it reduces stress - For many, life can be a roller coaster of endless activities.

From work, to family, and other social commitments This can make it difficult to find time to relax.

That is why many supermarkets now offer packaged cleaned and cut meat, neatly shredded and chopped vegetables that take away the stress of cutting and chopping at home.

3. It offers beter products and services - Another advantage of convenience culture is that it often leads to the creation of better quality products and services that saves time and stress.

The reason for this is not far-fetched. It’s simply because businesses know they do need to compete on convenience to survive.

Good examples are the online dating and delivery industries.

Before, people often relied on friends and family members to connect them with people to set them up on blind dates.

But now, with dating apps and websites, people can connect quickly and easily with potential partners who they find compatible.

Similarly, with businesses offering faster shipping times. The business alongside courier services have made it easy to get whatever we want delivered to our doorsteps at just the click of a button.

Unfortunately, these have its downsides too. Some of which have come at a cost to human health.

These include:

1. Sedentary lifestyle - Having everything delivered to our doorsteps reduces the likelihood of engaging in more physical activities like . walking to the store or riding a bike.

This lack of physical activity has contributed to the high incidence of obesity, which is a major risk factor for many chronic diseases.

2. Consumption of junk food - The easy access to quick meals especially in the form of fast foods has led to poor diets by consuming foods high in calories with low nutritional value.

This is why they’re referred to as junk foods.

The high consumption of these foods has contributed to the increased rates of heart disease and diabetes.

3. Loneliness - With a lot going on, on the internet through e-mails. text messaging, and social media, it’s very easy to go for hours or days without speaking to another human being.

This, research has revealed contributes to health issues such as depression, anxiey and heart disease.

How then can we conquer these consequences of Convenience Culture?

1. Engaging in physical activities - These activities do not have to be anything complex that necessarily require hitting the gym.

Simple activities like taking a walk or riding a bike go a long way to keep your body fit and healthy.

In additiion, creatively incorporating simple body movements into your daily activities can also help.

For example, dancing while doing the dishes or walking while talking. Just get your body moving

2. Cooking your meals - Yes, I know cooking from scratch does sound time-consuming.

But on the flip side, how aboutt seeing it as an investment in your health?

You can simplify the process by batch cooking your meals on weekends and freezing portions, and that’s it – your very own instant meals excluding the mystery ingredients.

3. Getting social and interacting- We as humans have been designed to socialize.

So, instead of restricting interaction to apps and devices, going out for a walk with a friend, enjoying the breeze, and feeling nature can help to curb loneliness.

Attending social events is another way to reduce the feelings of anxiety and depression caused by loneliness.

No doubt, convenience culture has its benefits. Afterall, we need quick fixes sometimes, however, balance here, is very key.

Convenience is like your super power but you are the one in control of that power. Use it wisely.

The journey to transformation isn’t overnight.

It’s about making better choices intentionally a step at a time irrespective of the fast-paced world we live in.

Nutrition has now been found to be the major cause of the onset of diseases not only in the United States but also around the world.

While genetics can increase the risk of having a disease by 30% to 40%, this risk can increase by 300% to 400% due to a bad lifestyle.

Not only that, about 57% of the calories consumed every day in the United States are ultraprocessed foods which when eaten a lot can cause health issues over time.

These ultraprocessed foods include soft drinks, hot dogs, fast foods, cookies which contain added ingredient such as sugar, fat, artificial colors and preservatives.

But do I get the health benefits? Yes.

How?

I simply blend it with other vegetables, so I don’t see it.

So, which of the vegetables is yours?
