What causes lichen planus?

Lichen planus might be an autoimmune disease.
This means that the body's immune system mistakes a part of the body as a foreign object.
When this happens the immune system starts to attack the skin, causing lichen planus.

The cause of lichen planus is mostly not understood that is why an accurate diagnosis is essential from your dermatologist.

An infection with hepatitis B and C virus could trigger lichen planus as there is a link between them.

A dermatologist can examine your skin, nails and mouth to tell if you have lichen planus.
Also a biopsy may be performed to be sure if you have lichen planus.

How Lichen Planus is Treated?

Treatment of lichen planus can prevent the disease from worsening, treatment can bring relief and accelerate healing.

Treatment is recommended for lichen planus of the mouth and ge****ls.
Lichen Planus in the month ( which mostly occurs in women than men) often lasts longer than lichen planus on the skin and can be harder to treat.

Lichen Planus Pt 1

Lichen planus is a skin disease.
It is also common inside the mouth.
It also can affect your ge****ls, scalp, fingernails and toenails.

What does lichen planus look like?

On each part of the body, lichen planus looks somewhat different;

Skin; appears as a few black/ greyish bumps.

Mouth; looks like redness and swelling inside the mouth, that makes the mouth feel tender or burn.

Ge****ls; it causes dark/ greyish bumps

Nails;the affected nail loses their shine.

Scalp; Some persons witness noticeable hair loss.

Hives (Urticaria)

Hives are skin coloured or pink wheals.
When hives form around the eyes, lips or ge****ls, the swelling is usually bigger and called angioedema.

What causes hives?

Allergic reactions, infections, certain foods or medications are the common causes of hives.
Many times the cause may be difficult to find.

*What are the common types of Urticaria?*

Acute Urticaria, Chronic when longer than 6weeks, physical Urticaria, demographism,solar,cold and pressure urticaria.


How to treat hives?

If you have hives that do not resolve within a week or do not respond to antihistamines, see your dermatologist.

Seborrheic Dermatitis
Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin disease that causes a red, scaly, itchy rash typically on the scalp, eyebrows, folds around the nose, mouth and ears.

Who gets Seborrheic Dermatitis?
Seborrheic dermatitis affects people of all ages. It occurs most often in infants and older adults and in men more than women.
in most infants seborrheic dermatitis appears on the scalp (cradle cap) and it also occurs in the diaper area. Parents may confuse it for other forms of diaper rash.

Seborrheic dermatitis is also more common in ;

* People who have a family member with seborrheic dermatitis.

* People who have oily skin or hair

*Patients with Parkinson's disease or with HIV/AIDS.

Where does Seborrheic Dermatitis occur on the body?
it most often occurs on the scalp, sides of the nose, around the mouth, eyebrows and middle of the chest. You may also find it around your belly button, your buttocks, in your armpits, on your breasts, and near your groin.
