Addressing the audience, Dr. Alex Otti blessed the couple, and also used the opportunity to remind the people of the importance of showing interest in who and how the State is governed.

Quoting Former French President, Charles de Gaulle’s famous quote — “Politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians”, when intelligent people are not interested in politics, fools will take over and run the state aground.

Politics is a marketplace of opinions. Whatever argument you can imagine is readily available, especially this electioneering period. But I urge us not to lose focus or get distracted. We have an urgent task at hand: reclaiming and repositioning Abia for greatness.

Dr. Alex Otti And The Promise Of Abia Development.

All Nigerians can attest that times are hard and critically uncertain. Economic security and development can no longer continue to be in the hands of mindlessly unthinking street-boys without ideas. Our environment is an example of human depression, squalor and neglect. We have neither potable water nor good roads. Ignorance and poverty are the twin evils over here while diseases and deaths lurk permanently on everyone’s doorstep.

Infant mortality rate in this part of Nigeria is about 300 per 1000 live births thereby reflecting the lowest socio-economic trend imaginable in the world. Health services by government are inexistent and where scarcely available suffers lack of essential drugs.

We have a population density that is outrageous and lends credence to high urban unemployment and underdevelopment, armed robbery and exponential crime rate. The houses and the entire living conditions are below internationally acceptable living standards as refuse heaps have taken over our communities and localities hence the endemicity of typhoid fever, cholera and assorted ailments.

However, Dr. Alex Otti holds our dreams of solution in absolutely understandable terms from his deep feelings and commitment. He has the will power and the integrity but we need to supply him our unshakable support and attention. The total implication is that a concrete plan of action must be put in place to serve as a road-map to exit this very ugly era which benefits only a criminal few. Success is achievable anyway.

Of course these things itemized, cannot be achieved without developing an educational system that is well focused towards raising a formidable human resource to cater for new and improved ideas and their implementation. This is because technological development simply means the ability of state or nation to locate and transform available scarce resources and put them to utmost economic and productive use at every point in time in the course of societal growth. All the above listed will remain impossible and a mirage without a sizeable body of men and women trained in the relevant sciences and technologies.

Dr. Otti has promised in utmost good faith to design a comprehensive master plan which will enable Abia State to optimize its economic potentials and prepare it as a major economic power in the Nigerian nation and in other emerging international markets, without relegating to the backgrounds the issues of ecological and environmental protection. The lack of control of the tide of heavy external borrowing in Abia is very disturbing indeed due to the fact that such funds are never put to good use except being siphoned in the processes of cronyism, favouritism and godfatherism. A decent government will put a stop to such idiocy and set the state in a perpetual path of growth and development, stemming the tide of official negligence prevalent in a trend where a population which is largely agrarian and vulnerably illiterate still has high numbers of young children who do not have access to schools due to poverty upon the additional fact that other young people from the rural areas are migrating to the urban centres in search of non-existent white collar jobs further complicating the problem on hand. Considering the far-reaching implications of the above stated situation, Abians and other well-meaning Nigerians must not miss out in this grand opportunity to collectively rally round Dr. Alex Otti’s campaign and help in actualizing the new face of Igboland which obviously has its nucleus in the state in general and Aba the elephant city in particular. As the best opportunities are in cities where infrastructure spending remain highest, with its concentration of consumers and returning diaspora citizens. Reason why almost our present productive output is for domestic consumption and not adequate for export.

Elimination of the atrocious economic management pattern of the present government will be evident in the presence of cranes, new buildings, thriving malls and new business billboards jostling for space on the skyline as the ease of doing business will clearly improve, creating profitable new markets for both local and transnational firms giving Abia’s estimated population of over 5 million people plenty of promise as there will be money flowing clearly while everyone will be negotiating and haggling with cash, agreeing on prices and striking deals. Target being to transform Aba into the likes of China’s electronics factories and Bangladesh’s textile sweat shops by providing electricity which Otti started funding during his days in Diamond Bank with Prof. Bath Nnaji through Geometric Power Company Aba and also increasing the mileage of paved roads in the state.

Dr. Otti’s well planned intended collaboration with other governors of the South Eastern and South Southern states of Nigeria will Obviously give rise to new ports, roads, railways and power stations springing up across these geo-political zones engendering the acquisition of new assets which will generate new sources of growth, further attracting diaspora citizens of these zones and other Nigerians to invest the money the earned overseas homewards with its attendant economic and social multiplier effects.

Since the spree of the gross mismanagement of Abia State economic resources commenced decades ago by past and present political leadership, the desire for change has been evident. The challenge of the next decade is whether government with pressure from the electorate can live up to those hopes, and the injury time to rectify that grave anormally is now as the 2023 governorship election in Abia draws nearer bearing in mind that with this set of political leaders our resources and our collective lives gets leaner by the hour. A really ticking time-bomb indeed since this clueless people in power have serially refused to acknowledge that they have systemically mismanaged our collective economy having failed to convince anybody by evidence that the future is bright after several opportunities to lead the state and its people.

The recent development concerning the just released INEC voters' register calls for serious concern. INEC needs to respond to the CUPP press conference and explain to Nigerians what is going on.

REMOVAL OF ALEX OTTI 'S BILLBOARDS: PDP LED GOVT WANTS TO SET ABIA ON FIRE – DG WARNS

The Labour Party governorship candidate, Dr. Alex Otti’s Campaign council has warned of looming dire consequences owing to the continued removal and destruction of it’s principal’s advert billboards from strategic areas in Abia state.

The campaign council accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led Abia state government of sponsoring the removal of Otti’s campaign billboards using the Abia state Signage and Advertisement Agency (ABSAA) after ten million naira fee was paid for it.

Addressing journalists in a press conference in Umuahia on Thursday, the Director General, Alex Otti Campaign Council, Honorable Iheanacho Obioma (Chomen), noted that all efforts made to resolve the matter amicably has proven futile adding that ABSAA’s General Manager, Mr. Anthony Otuonye claimed that the billboards were removed based on instructions from the state government.



“Few days ago, the flex of our newly installed billboard around Umuikaa junction was removed by Abia state government through the General Manager of Abia state Signage and Advertisement Agency (ABSAA), Mr. Anthony Otuonye on the grounds that the PDP has no presence there and thus would not allow an opposition party to mount a billboard there”.

“Dr Alex Otti paid ten million naira required from every governorship candidate. The vendor also paid ABSAA General Manager the sum of one million, two hundred thousand naira which he collected and approved the installation of the billboard, before he turned around and removed it less than 48-hours after it was installed .

“Otunonye displayed unbridled arrogance and primitive ego when he told us that the government would be angry if we were allowed to mount our billboard there.” the campaign DG said.

Honorable Iheanacho Obioma added that Otuonye has remained adamant even when security agencies including the Department of state services (DSS), charged him to do the right thing so as not to disrupt the peace of the state. According to Honorable Iheanacho Obioma , Otuonye resolved to threatening the life of the billboard vendor recruited by Dr. Alex Otti.

Alex Otti campaign council also revealed that their principal had gotten all required consent from Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) to put up a billboard with the slogan “Ndi Abia weep no more help is on the way…..” which the Abia state government have now tagged ‘inciting/hate speech’.

The council called on ABSAA and the Abia state government to do the needful by reinstating the billboards already paid for in its approved location or face the consequences.

“while we continually appeal to men of good conscience and those who desire peace in Abia state like us to call the Okezie Ikpeazu led government to order, it’s important to remind us that our patience and tolerance is not unlimited, therefore as bonafide Abians we would be left with the option of applying all legitimate measures to assert our rights which are being flagrantly violated by the government in power” the council added.

We need to do things differently, we can no longer rely on the status quo that has proven ineffective. Governance all over the world is changing rapidly, and we need to leverage on this recent developments to the benefit of our people.

Obi’s dollar investment as Anambra Governor now worth N95b — Alex Otti.

Former Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Dr. Alex Otti, has, in what can be described as laying the truth bare, cleared the air of doubts in the minds of cynics who believe that the N75 billion savings the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, left for the state was a hoax.

Dr. Otti, in a piece on Nigeria’s leadership challenge, praised Obi for his financial prudence, which enabled him to save up N75 billion in both local and foreign currencies for Anambra State as a governor before leaving office.

According to him, the dollar component of the savings is now worth over N95 billion.

Otti, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Abia State in the last two elections in the country, explained that it was through a high level of managerial ability that Obi, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2019 elections, was able to achieve a great financial feat “in a state that was reputed to have been owing civil servants and pensioners” by clearing off all debts inherited from his predecessor and still left behind a fortune for his successor.

Confirming the N75 billion savings, Otti, who was the Chairman of Diamond Bank, one of the banks where the money was domiciled, stated again, as he had done many times before, that Obi left a whopping N75 billion for the future generation of the state.

Speaking on the Dollar component of the savings, he said: “Like yours truly had done in the past, one can attest to the fact that some $155 million was invested in the tier two capital of three Nigerian banks with maturities of about five years at interest rates of up to 9% per annum to the credit of the State. As at the time the investments were made, the Naira equivalent of the funds was about N25 billion. If those funds were rolled over at maturity in 2019, they would be worth about N62 billion today. If interest is assumed to remain at 9 per cent for the past six years, an additional N33.5 billion would have accrued to bring the present value of the investments to over N95 billion. This is one of the advantages of prudence and financial literacy.”

Otti, who said Obi successfully cut off profligacies in governance, described Obi as “one of the few leaders of the country that has his head properly screwed on his neck”, noting that “in truth he is a true example of excellent leadership and accountability in today’s world where such attributes are in very short supply.”

Otti opined that it was the financial imprudence and lack of savings culture experienced at different levels of government that has almost crippled the nation after few months of lockdown.

He therefore urged political leaders and public office holders to borrow a leaf from Obi’s prudence, financial responsibility and savings culture in their public and private lives.

It will be recalled that Obi earlier this year won the award of “Thisday Governor of the Decade” for his many achievements while in office as governor.

PDP LED ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE IF THERE IS BREAKDOWN OF LAW AND ORDER IN ABIA.

The Abia State Chapter of Labour Party notes with unbelievable shock and disappointment the rising wave of unprovoked acts of political violence being unleashed by agents of PDP led Abia state government against its members and supporters, as well as on properties belonging to the aforementioned persons.

In some cases, our members and supporters have either been threatened, attacked in their houses, ejected from venues of meetings or prevented from holding peaceful gatherings.

Being at home with Abia state government's anachronistic strategy which is rooted in primitive violence and undemocratic extremism, we clearly understand that the intention of the government is to instill fear and panic in the minds of our supporters and other opposition members ahead of campaigns for the 2023 general election, and wish to state the following:

1.That Labour Party is a peaceful party made up of responsible and law abiding citizens who are desirous of pursuing their political ambitions with decency and decorum devoid of violence and brigandage, and thus would not intentionally engage in acts capable of breaching the peace of Abia state and endangering the lives and properties of Abians.

2. That notwithstanding our peaceful disposition and dedication to pursuing our political ambition in adherence to the provisions of our laws and all known democratic tenets, we would not under any circumstance sit idly and watch Abia state government and PDP unleash their medieval brigands on our law abiding members, supporters and indeed innocent Abians.

3.That the plot by the PDP led Abia state government to use false petitions to intimidate and illegally incarcerate our members, especially our candidates whom they consider threats to their ambitions, is one impunity we have resolved to fiercely and fearlessly repel with every energy in us.

4.That the PDP led government's premature panic is a creation of calamitous failure in the governance of Abia state, hence their fear of taking part in a free and fair democratic contest which they know would give Abians the opportunity to pass their PVC-induced guilty verdict on them.

5. That the misdirected energy and misused resources being deployed to hound, harass and humiliate innocent Abians who are poised to getting rid of the PDP come 2023 should be channelled to reviving and repositioning our key institutions that are presently being grounded in high proportion as a result of the present government's directionless leadership.

6. A state being ravaged by insecurity to a point that its citizens from Umunneochi, Isuikwuato and its Surroundings cannot visit their homes or freely engage in business activities due to kidnapping should not have a government that's so careless and insensitive to the point of abandoning such challenges and resorting to wasting public funds fighting imaginary political enemies,even after pocketing hundreds of millions from security vote every month.

7.That the Labour Party, it's leaders, stakeholders and indeed her supporters across the nation will no longer tolerate any violent onslaught from the PDP led Abia state government. This release serves as last warning.

8.Finally, we are by this release putting security agencies and indeed, the general public on notice that the PDP led Abia state government should be held accountable should there be any breakdown of law and order in Abia state.

Abia and Abians deserve peace and we must collectively work to maintain peace in our state for the sake of our people.

Thousands of them have been employed into roles they call special assistants to no one in particular without any specific assignment in government.

It is a ruse to hide government's inability to create jobs. It is also aimed at using them for elections after which they are yanked off the payroll.

Traditional rulers of Ohuhu land earlier this evening honoured a foremost economist and governorship candidate of Labour Party in Abia state, Dr. Alex Otti with a Chieftaincy title of Enyi Oha of Ohuhu land.

Conferring the title on the ex bank Chief as part of this year's Iwa Ji Festival of Ndi Ohuhu, the Chairman of the Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu described Otti as an illustrious son of Abia who has accomplished so much and brought honour to Abia to deserve the honour being bestowed on him.

Responding, Dr. Otti expressed surprise over such an unexpected honour from the people of Ohuhu land and thanked them for deeming him fit for the royal honour.

He congratulated the people of Ohuhu on the occasion of their Iwa Ji Festival, and prayed God to continue to sustain peace and unity amongs the people which he said made the event a success.
