North Star has been implementing the Global Fund HIV programme in Makueni County, Kenya targeting truck drivers and People who inject drugs (PWIDs). North Star Alliance is a sub-recipient of the Global Fund New Funding Model (NFM-3) for HIV through the support of Kenya Red Cross Society which is the non-state prime recipient. The programme provides a comprehensive package of HIV prevention, care, treatment, and support services to Key and Vulnerable Populations (KVPs). The project dubbed Tibika Jikinge, in partnership with the county governments, aims to find missing people with TB amongst the target group of; (I) Key Populations (S*x Workers, MSMs and PWIDS), (II)Corridor Communities and (III)Truck drivers. North Star held a stakeholders workshop on Tuesday, bringing together all members of the Crisis Response Teams (CRTs) in Beitbridge District, Zimbabwe, to take stock of the Aidsfonds supported Hands-Off project. From the workshop, members noted that the project has impacted female s*x workers and corridor communities, indicating that there has been increased reporting of SGBV cases and survivors seeking help; an improved attitude among the police towards addressing SGBV cases; successfully leveraging expertise from a community-based multi-sectoral team to address SGBV cases; the participation of s*x workers helped to build trust, reduce stigma, and encourage them to report SGBV cases; and that s*x workers are protected and served by law enforcement.

The Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA) and North Star Alliance held a workshop today to develop a clear collaboration framework.

Prior to the workshop, the Ncttca Ttca team, led by the Director of Private Sector Investment Promotion (PSIP), paid visits to the Maai Mahiu and Emali Wellness clinics in Nakuru and Makueni counties, respectively. The visit aimed to assess and appreciate North Star's operations and the impact of the services provided to truck drivers and local communities along the Corridor.

Speaking during the workshop, Dr Denis Muganga, Director, PSIP, noted that the wellness clinics play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy transport corridor, and it will be a great opportunity to collaborate; explore more joint activities, and enhance the mobilization of resources.

The action plan developed during the workshop had the blessings of the North Star Kenya Board members who were in attendance.
