Last days to visit our UP/////DATE by Marc Oosting ‘Important Questions’. We are open today from 14:00 to 18:00. Come visit!
Marc Oosting is interested in processes of appropriation, identity politics, the relationship between production and reproduction, and the idea of authenticity – notions that he connects to fundamental questions about the art object itself and the context in which the object is experienced. Having lived and worked alternately in Amsterdam and Seoul, regularly visiting China for exhibitions and projects as well, Oosting is aiming to account for the continuous shifts in contextualization within which his work is experienced and produced. The Important Questions project (2016, ongoing) emerges from these interests, manifesting itself through paintings, carpets, and textile works that often display texts of a typically short, imperative and/or rhetorical nature, as is normal in (verbal) conflict situations. Transferred to the context of cultural institutions these texts touch upon the core of the mechanism of exhibiting, seeing, and being seen.
This UP/////DATE also serves as a first announcement of the collaboration between P/////AKT and Oosting for the 15th Gwangju Biennale that will take place from September through December 2024. Important Questions - Belangrijke Vragen - 중요한 질문 is a group exhibition at the Eunam Museum of Art. With Paul Geelen, Jing He, Bodil Ouédraogo, Nayul Kim, Museum of…, Alban Karsten, and Marc Oosting.

Come visit! We are open today from 14:00 to 18:00.
‘I wink, I blink, I close my eyes’ is on view at P/////AKT until 18 August, open Thursday to Sunday, 14:00 to 18:00.
Drawing its title from Roland Barthes' A Lover's Discourse, I wink, I blink, I close my eyes ("...means at one and the same time: I wink, I blink I close my eyes.") brings together the works of Willem Oorebeek, Tirza Kater, Tim Mathijsen, and Arnoud Holleman, accompanied by a text written by Becket Flannery.
The group exhibition, arranged by Tirza Kater and Tim Mathijsen – familiar through a collaboration of arranging art in space and time in the form of Marwan – proposes an intimate layering of interpretations of reproduction in surfaces, relations, relays, images after images, forms after forms, complications, nabeelden (after-images), footnotes, lichen, and dust.
Special thanks to Sonia Kazovsky, Ana Jotta and Joke Aarnink.

Thank you all for coming to ‘after the siren, before the bell’ last Monday!
Beginning with the audio engineering technique of 'ringing out a room'—to locate resonant frequencies—after the siren, before the bell turns broadcasting infrastructure (radios, headphones, microphones, cables) into a site-responsive sound system that hums with feedback. after the siren, before the bell takes place the first Monday of the month, beginning after the blare of the public test sirens ends at 12:01:27, and ending at 12:59:59 when the ringing of large city church bells commence. This iteration of the work featured performance maker and sociologist Diane Mahín who was "growling," a technique often used in black metal performances. She was building a layered internal monologue that will loop through the radio system, breaching and flooding into the passageways of the Pakhuis Wilhelmina warehouse where P/////AKT is located.
after the siren, before the bell is supported by Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst, and was developed with project space When Site Lost the Plot (Amsterdam, NL).
P/////AKT IS IN VERY SERIOUS TROUBLE. Just like many of our colleagues who are left with insufficient means or might cease to exist altogether. Our hearts are bleeding with you.
Come visit! We are open today from 14:00 to 18:00.

Last week to see our UP/////DATE by Kasper Bosman ‘Boy Butter’ alongside our current exhibition by Nora Aurrekoetxea Etxebarria. We are open today till Sunday, 14:00 to 18:00, come visit!
Bosmans’ bronze butter is referring to the large-scale butter smuggling after World War II. Thanks to enormous price differences between the Netherlands and Belgium, butter became the most profitable contraband of the secondhalf of the twentieth century (followed by the smuggling of hashish and later hard drugs that became on the rise in the 1970s). Smuggling butter is considered the most romantic crime in Dutch history. Stories about this still play a major role in local folklore. This romantic manly act is given a different meaning by Bosmans’ evocative title, which refers to an intimate lubricant for naughty boys.
In 2015 P/////AKT presented his solo exhibition Little Cherry Virus.

Special Case #5 is available at P/////AKT and also online!
The Special Cases are a new series of dossiers containing texts, documentation and materials functioning as an extension of each solo project. It’s a portable exhibition, thinking space, archive in one, produced as a collectible box. The fifth limited edition of 30 copies is produced as an extension of Nora Aurrekoetxea’s current solo exhibition I am a body in a body of air and contains the following items:
Exhibition documentation, hand-out and poster, a commissioned text by Angeliki Tzortzakaki, various prints, a cast resin bubble of a Decathlon airbed and automatic writing (silkscreen print on inflatable plastic) by Lisa Barnard and Nora Aurrekoetxea, based on performative exercises that were also documented on film by Andoni Zamora.

You can also look at our previous Special Cases by Brigitte Louter, Jerrold Saija, Vibeke Mascini and Reinier Vrancken.
We are open today from 14:00 to 18:00, come visit! I am a body in a body of air by Nora Aurrekoetxea Etxebarria is on view until 16 June, open from Tursday to Sunday, 14:00 – 18:00.
For her solo project at P/////AKT Nora Aurrekoetxea Etxebarria (Bilbao, 1989) is presenting an experimentation with the material and formal properties of airbeds, reflecting on the temporality of the domestic object and the choreography implicated in its usage. This choreography also extends to the bodies that interface with the object, relating to the ephemeral shape that a body assumes in relationship with the furniture that hosts it.
The matrasses, rolled up to fit a wooden support structure to contain their form, are casted in order to present their inside surface as a shape and as a space: in between the mattress and the body that lies on it; folding and unfolding, air moving in and moving out.
