NEW WORK by
Bonnefous, known for her series KILAMBA, works in the liminal space between documentary and visual arts. In balancing the two her images find their strength and singularity. In her new project, SOUFFLE ARIDE, she explores and studies a singular and captivating town in the Sultanate of Oman, the city of Duqm, which is rapidly changing from a small fisher’s town to an industrial city.
Exploring matter, apprehending surfaces, questioning and understanding territories through their colors, textures, and sensibilities, are the elements that constitute the essence of her photographic work. Pictorial and poetic, Laura’s relationship to photography is rooted in reality through its subject matter, and yet remains fragile and abstract in the ways she tell her stories. Her deepest wish is to bring a subtle, sensitive vision to these landscapes in motion. To take a step back and observe our world that never stops changing before our eyes. Approaching different subjects by way of color is a defining feature of her work, one that always leads her into deep exploration and understanding of the spaces she studies.

We are excited to announce that from 9-12 May, Kahmann Gallery will participate at art fair Art on Paper Amsterdam for the first time!
At Amsterdam, galleries and art dealers concentrate on works of art on, from or with paper, both classical and contemporary. The fair takes place in the industrial-monumental Gashouder at the Westerpark in Amsterdam.
In their photocollages work without a preconceived plan or subject. With their self-produced image fragments, they compose their own dream world. Subtle eroticism, demanding poses, or the quiet poetry of desire are the elements used in this dark world rich in contrast in black and white, filled with characters who are endlessly captivating. In their work Schilte Portielje constantly explore the boundaries between fantasy and reality, giving it a certain surreal quality.

For the first time Kahmann Gallery has partnered up with artist . Sidney Waerts showcases the transformation he has undergone in recent years with his latest body of work presented by Kahmann Gallery
Amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, Waerts experiences a shift towards embracing the tranquility and clarity offered by nature. This inner journey is partly inspired by Sumi-e, the Japanese painting technique emphasizing simplicity and spontaneity. Utilizing acrylic paint and Eastern ink, Waerts explores new artistic avenues, infusing his work with gold as a symbol of light and spiritual growth.

We invite you to discover the captivating photocollages by . Asha’s work is to a large extent influenced by her fashion study. She mainly used mixed media and designed garments by making collages. Swillens’ research of 17th-century paintings sparked a fascination with their use of lights and shadows. Work that feels like seeing a memory from a long time ago, whilst being modern and new . Consequently, Swillens’ work questions the border of reality and fiction as all her images are a non-existing composition of real elements.

The first artist we will be presenting is .dubelaar
Paulien deals with existential questions, such as: the meaning of life and death, how can we live a significant existence, who are we as humans? Where answers are not readily available, she tries to explore with her images: in greatness and insignificance, invulnerability and transience, in stillness and motion, in darkness and in light. She feels connected to the ideas of existentialist philosophers and uses them as inspiration in her photographic oeuvre. Paulien, who graduated from the Amsterdam Photo Academy in December 2023, works with a variety of unique printing techniques, like photo-etchings, cyanotypes and Japanese techniques like Toyobo and Zokin Gake.

HIGHLIGHTED TODAY: ’Helene in the woods, Norway’ by
Each month, Kahmann Gallery proudly unveils a curated selection of eight extraordinary pieces that deserve to be highlighted.
Norwegian photographer Gt Nergaard found the identity of his work at the crossroad between fiction and reality. Some of his images are observations, others are staged situations. He creates a narrative, inspired by events that are closely linked to his own life. The themes of youth, freedom and vitality are central to his work. As a Norwegian living far north, his work is naturally influenced by nature, which is always very close and a dominant part of the country.

HIGHLIGHTED TODAY: ’waarschijnlijkheid 2’ by Luuk de Haan
Each month, Kahmann Gallery proudly unveils a curated selection of eight extraordinary pieces that deserve to be highlighted.
The nature of abstract work involves an interrogation of the definition and function of photography and, by making the means of its production essential to the meaning of the resulting object, it invites us to reflect on what ‘photographicness’ might mean and why it might matter.
You can also see this work in real during our pop up at the Haarlemmerdijk 137 until 24/4/2024

Kahmann Gallery visits 2020
At the beginning of 2009 HUP Gallery changed its name and moved as Kahmann Gallery to the Lindengracht 35 in Amsterdam. While the original concept was to focus purely on Dutch vintage photography, the scope has broadened over time to include international photographers and younger talents. The gallery exhibition program is a mix of vintage and contemporary photography. Besides a large vintage print collection, Kahmann Gallery represents the work of almost 30 national and internationally renowned photographers. The gallery is also a supporter of new photography talent and has created Kahmann Gallery LAB to coach these artists on their first steps into the commercial art world. The gallery cooperates with various international galleries and museums and participates in international art fairs.
