This turquoise was waiting since some time to be included in a jewelry piece. I am very happy how this ring turned out. Handmade with sterling silver.

Turquoise is my all-times favourite stone. I love the colors varying from blue to green, sometimes even yellow or brownish. Reminding me of the sun and the see.

Did you know that turquoise is one of the stones that is coloured or manipulated by human hands most often? Nowadays the natural stones are really precious. They have a long history in the middle east countries to bring luck, piece and protection, especially to travellers.

Recently I started a goldsmith course and ohh I love it!! This is my first selfmade silver ring with a beautiful soft moonstone. Looking forward to my next projects! ✨

Such a special order. A customer asked me to create a simple natural-looking necklace out of this beautiful stone. He has found it in iceland and carved it himself into this beautiful shape. When he found it he could barely see the beauty that was hidden within. Isn‘t this the case with more things in life? When we look closer beauty is all around us. With these wise words being said I wish you a nourishing sunday and a fresh start into the new week!

Op 7 Oktober sta ik bij Nataraj Groningen met mijn sieraden 🧡

Today I want to show you this beautiful necklace with snakeskin jasper.

The stone gets its red color from the presence of iron. The interesting banding and swirls is from the earth's movement. Isn‘t it amazing how those stones are shaped over the passing of time?
The raw rocks from which these pieces are taken and polished are believed to be 2.5 billions of years old. Can you believe that?!

What a treasure those gemstones are, I can also sometimes forget, now that it is so relatively normal to own them.

So let us not forget the magic and wisdom of these ancient stones!

Snakeskin Jasper (as Red Jasper) is called a stone of fairness and justice because mystical lore claims that it decreases unjustness and helps in unfair situations. It is also said to enhance responsibility, choice, and compassion. It is said to assist in protection and rescue from danger. Physically, it is believed to help with the digestion.

Did you know that the normal micromacramé cords are made from polyester?

As I love to use products that are as natural and as fairly produced as possible I am continuously looking for better alternatives. And of course they also have to be relatively affordable!
The cord that I used here is made in Spain from cotton, which feels for me as a big step towards a more natural alternative. But of course also has a different look and feel. But so far I love working with it and using it! What do you think?

Rond een jaar geleden is Mārama geboren.
Wat een mooi en boeiend proces om mijn creaties te delen met de wereld. Op markten te staan, te zoeken naar de ziel van mijn sieraden en deze neer te zetten op kraampjes. Steeds weer de balans terug te zoeken naar werken vanuit ontspanning, niets van mezelf moeten. En als ik even een pauze neem toch steeds weer de passie te voelen die me terug brengt naar dit prachtige werk. Het verfijnde werken is een mooie spiegel die uitnodigt tot vertraging en focus.

Dankbaar dat ik mezelf dit gun én dankbaar voor iedereen die mij steunt, mijn sieraden met trots draagt, mijn berichten volgt (vanochtend 222 volgers op deze site!!), mij in vertrouwen opdrachten geeft.

A new name is born!

Mārama, in Māori language, can be translated into "the moon", "light" and "clearness". Ao mārama means "the world of love and light", or "physical world".

When I travelled in New Zealand, six years ago, also a new me was born. The first big step that I took as a grown up person, fully and only for myself.

I was fascinated by the Māori culture, its deep connection to and care for nature and its beautiful, metaphorical stories and symbols. Here, I also reconnected with my passion for gemstones, and carved my own necklace in the form of the twist. The twist, or 'pikorua' is said to represent the path of life and the interconnectedness with others.

This is why, thinking of a name that represents myself and my creations best, I chose for Mārama. With the intention to share the light, care and love I put into my macrame pieces and as small reminders of the cyclic, interconnected nature of all that is us and surrounds us.

Hi!

This is me, doing another thing that I probably love even more (yes) than creating magical gemstone jewelry. I love to enjoy good food. And these pictures froze a really special moment. Since I have coeliakie, which is an autoimmune illness where I cannot eat any trace of gluten, I am mostly punished watching others enjoying good bread, cake and other tasty bakery dishes. But not on that day. On that day I went to a gluten-free bakery in Barcelona, and I think I bought a piece of nearly everything they had to offer. I felt as a queen for a moment. So next to gemstones, enjoying good food has also again proven to have healing qualities 😋A moment worth sharing 😌
