PERSPECTIVES of LORRAINE WILD
What I'm looking forward to in Basel: Although I joined AGI before the pandemic, this is my first Congress. I am really looking forward to joining the international community of inspiring practitioners, and bringing that inspiration back to my home in Los Angeles.
At AGI Open, Lorraine Wild will pose the provocative question: “Graphic Design: Is it still a thing?”

What can we learn from each other: That we are not the center of the world.
What I'm looking forward to in Basel: New friendships.
My vision of communication design and its role in a future society: Help transform complexity into simplicity.

PERSPECTIVES of ANDREU BALIUS
My design practice in one sentence: I am a type designer based in Barcelona. I design custom/bespoke and retail typefaces through typerepublic.com
What I still would like to learn: I’d like to learn to play piano, or any jazz instrument. I love jazz.
An anecdote about AGI: Kerning big size AGI Open sign board letters in the middle of an avenue at night, while preparing AGI Open in Barcelona.
(AGI Open letters were really big signboard letters that had to be kerned looking at them from long distance and shouting to the person that was fixing them at the façade of the Theatre venue. It was weird and funny at the same time)
What comes to my mind regarding the term “Participatory Design”: Taking into account different points of view. All opinions count.
Read all his answers on our website (link in bio).
And at AGI Open, hear him discuss "Type Design as a Tool for Transformation."

PERSPECTIVES of MARTA CERDÀ ALIMBAU
What can we learn from each other: Absolutely everything. I strongly believe in the idea that together, we do everything. Memory reveals us that together – those of us who are in this world but also those who left us-, we do everything. This is how historically the human being has evolved. And this is comforting. We are not alone. There is no human step that does not start from that of another.
What I'm looking forward to in Basel: I am looking forward to get to know the birth country of swiss design and see how it speaks today through the voices of contemporarity.
My vision of communication design and its role in a future society: Trying to be positive, I believe that if society as a whole empowers itself to shift away from the short-term, ultra-marketed trend of consumption, designers will be able to reconnect with aesthetics and art again. […] As Michael Beirut mentions in an interview, the only lasting value in timeless sustainable design is the aesthetic one, since functional needs evolve and businesses constantly pursue new goals. This vision may seem idealistic, and maybe I am daydreaming. But it is worth aspiring to.

Her presentation at AGI Open will address the topic of "Type to Image".

Since AGI Open is themed PERSPECTIVES, we took this as an opportunity to ask all contributors and participants the same set of questions. We will be presenting excerpts from their answers here leading up to the big conference day.
Today, we feature the perspectives of EVI O.
What I still would like to learn: Many things about Mother Nature and if I have more time, the wider Universe. Together with how to draw typefaces, in-depth human psychology, garden, the list is never ending.
What can we learn from each other: A lot. Every human is a different entity and interacting with any will give you something new. Open-mindedness will only enrich you as a person and more so as a designer.
What comes to my mind regarding the term “Participatory Design”: It is the human* way to approach a design challenge. *Humans are not perfect.
Read all EVI O.‘s answers on our website (link in bio).
And at AGI Open, hear EVI O.’s talk, „Addicted to Creativity.“

Despite its historical significance in Basel’s development, the Rhine River now serves as an ideal environment for sports and leisure activities. The river divides the city, and Basel maintains the southernmost harbor accessible to cargo ships from Rotterdam. While early October might be too cold for swimming, taking a ride on one of the ferry boats to cross the river will still provide a wonderful experience before or after the lectures at the AGI Open. Please join us for two enlightening days in the renowned Stadtcasino Basel, and engage in mutual dialogue with global design leaders who will share their views on the evolution of communication design in light of contemporary challenges and opportunities.
