The school year has come to an end! 🤩
The final classes were this week and all the end performances are done. Tomorrow we send of the new generation dancers with their diploma and then all students officially can enjoy their well deserved summer holiday! We had a great year and are super proud of our students and staff!

The Dance Arts in Context course, part of Fontys Academy of the Arts, is looking for a new education manager (study leader). An enthusiastic study leader with attention to the organization, with knowledge of HR and finance, but certainly also experience in leading a self-managing team. Affinity with the arts sector is an advantage.
As a study leader, you work closely with the artistic director of the program and carry out the business side of the daily management. You know better than anyone that every day can be a different one with the associated challenges. In addition, you pay attention to developments in society in connection with the training and the employees within your team.

Yesterday the nominees for the Jacques de Leeuw Award presented themselves! Dance Arts in Context nominated Frann Schollaert for the Jacques de Leeuw price of 2024. 🦁

Frann describes herself as a mover-performer-maker, and Frann is really all of that and so much more.
Frann is an outstanding dancer with a physicality so fluid and intelligent that they excel in numerous styles and technics whilst never losing their personal signature.

As a performer, Frann has shown that she can hold a whole audience with her theatrical presence being poetic, radical and bold, yet utterly vulnerable and unapologetically honest.
As a maker, they love collaborating and learning from the dancers they are working with.

There is an underlying urgency in every aspect of Frann’s work, whether they move, perform or create; the urgency is tangible and visible in her outspoken work and complete dedication to her practice. Frann is a multi-talented dance artist, deeply engaged in societal issues, human movement and with a need to keep expanding their knowledge and areas beyond dance.
It’s with immense pride that we nominate Frann Schollaert.

On 11 and 12 April our new work COMMUNITAS will première at the LocHal
in Tilburg. We are happy to invite you to come and watch.

Motus Mori COMMUNITAS 
How can multiple bodies move as one?

In COMMUNITAS, 16 performers aged between 20 and 75 exchange their
personal movements amid everyday reality. They support and follow each
other’s movements until a collective body emerges. Self-taught movers
and academic dance students from Dance Arts in Context | Fontys Academy
of the Arts unite in a moving theatrical ritual. Accompanied by bubbles
of spatial sound, they form ritual islands of focus and devotion.
COMMUNITAS originates from the Motus Mori archive for human movement.

When and where?
On Thursday 11 April at 2pm and 4pm, and Friday 12 April at 2pm and 5
pm, at the LocHal in Tilburg (Burgemeester Brokxlaan 1000, near the
railway station). The performance will last about 45 minutes and
admission is free.

Met veel plezier mogen wij het nieuwe jurylid voor de 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘫𝘴 𝘕𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘵 bekendmaken: 𝗨𝗹𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗻 𝗦𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻.

Ulrika verhuisde naar Nederland om dans te studeren aan de Fontys Dansacademie in Tilburg. Tijdens haar studie heeft ze gewerkt met underground performance collectief T.R.A.S.H. Ulrika heeft o.a. samengewerkt met Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui en Damien Jalet/Les Ballets C de la B, Choi Ka Fai, Javier Barcala, Christoph Coppens en Jelena Kostic. Momenteel is ze artistiek leider bij Dance Arts in Context/Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg.

De jury mag binnenkort de drie pitches voor een nieuwe voorstelling van de genomineerden beoordelen en bepalen wie tijdens het 𝘕𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯 𝘎𝘢𝘭𝘢 2024 de prijs in ontvangst neemt.

We are pleased to announce the new member of the jury for the 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘕𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘵: 𝗨𝗹𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗻 𝗦𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻.

Ulrika moved to the Netherlands to study dance at the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg. During her studies she worked with underground performance collective T.R.A.S.H. Ulrika has collaborated with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet/Les Ballets C de la B, Choi Ka Fai, Javier Barcala, Christoph Coppens and Jelena Kostic, among others. She is currently artistic director at Dance Arts in Context/Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg.

The jury may soon assess the three pitches for a new performance by the nominees and decide who will receive the award at the 𝘕𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯 𝘎𝘢𝘭𝘢 2024.

This thursday is the very first DAC Community Night! 🙌🏻
Our very own Chilton Galimo, together with students, created a fun program filled with activities and games.

The goal of this event is to meet each other and to get to know each other outside of the dancefloor. First and foremost as the population of students from dance arts in context.
So if, for example, you are a first year hoping to meet some 3rd years, be there!
If you are a dancer from CO who wants to converse with dancers from CU, be there!
Let’s bring it all together and meet each other.

Students from other Fontys related departments and alumni to the academy are also welcome.

It’s almost Christmas time!
The last classes of the year are done! And now it’s time for a well deserved break for our students 😴
We thank everyone involved in our education for a great 2023 and wish all a great rest, lots of fun, relaxation and a wonderful time with their loved ones.

If you are staying in Tilburg over the holidays, please make sure you look out for yourself and each other. It can be difficult in these times to be alone. Make some time to take a walk with in the fresh air or visit the movie theatre with a friend!

The Dance Arts In Context Educational Committee (composed of Maartje Braun, Chilton Galimo, and Helena Alemany) is seeking a new member!!!!!

What becoming a member entails:
- Representing the Dance Arts In Context department
- Connection between students, teachers, and FAA as a contact organ
- Be responsible for students’ and teachers’ voices to be heard and taken into account around the quality of the studies.
- Give solicited and unsolicited advice to IMR and director
- Paid job. We usually have a meeting the first Monday of the month after school and some extra sessions when needed.

Summer is coming to an end, the city is full of new students! So much exciting energy and happiness! The staff is slowly getting ready to start. 4th of September will be the official start of the school year. For now, enjoy this introduction week and the final relaxing days of summer and get ready to start the dance journey!!! See you soon! 🕺🏼♥️

The building is close to empty, the students are working at summer intensives or are enjoying their time away from academy classes.
It’s official, summer holidays are here!

In September a group of new students will find their way to Tilburg and into our fontys house. A lot of new students are still looking for a room here. If you have a free room or are leaving your room please let us know so we can help the soon-to-be first year dancers out!

We want to wish you wonderful holidays! We hope you enjoy your well deserved rest and take care of your hard working bodies!

If you are staying in Tilburg over the holidays, please make sure you look out for yourself and each other. It can be difficult to be alone. Make some time to take to check in on each other or meet up for a nice coffee :)

Within your study programme at Fontys Fine and Performing Arts there is room for a free part of 30 credits. You give your own interpretation to your educational activities. You can use the free part to deepen and broaden your knowledge and skills, or both. The different possibilities are: Free Choice, Minor Study Abroad, Fontys Minors, External Minors and Minor Art, Creation & Research.
